The colonial creation of private property from stolen land is the American way, from the theft of Indigenous people’s lands to the urban renewal clearance projects that built the modern New York City in which Donald Trump was able to thrive and build wealth. There can be no shock that the developer president’s first public words on Gaza would celebrate the old method of generating “demolition sites” (terra nullius, or empty land). In a way, Trump actually is daring those of us who support Palestinian sovereignty to understand the interdependence of capitalism and genocidal colonialism. There must be a people, and there must be a land. One without the other presents a windfall to the developers.

Like their association of civil rights and peace demonstrators with communism throughout the Cold War, politicians on both sides of the aisle are now broadly hurling claims of antisemitism against anyone protesting Israel’s war in Gaza, many of whom are Jewish.
The purpose then, as it is now, is to intimidate administrators into a false political choice: Will they protect students’ right to demonstrate or be seen as acquiescent to antisemitism?
Column: The crackdown on student protesters shows exactly why we need them
After all, the division over the war in Gaza is by no means confined to students. As has happened with so many rifts in our country’s history, students have simply used their activism to become a prism reflecting the wider world. Which is why they need to be taken seriously, for all of our sakes.
If they do nothing else, the growing demonstrations are forcing us to confront who we are, what we believe and why.
What is happening in Gaza is not a war “over there.” It’s right here, right now, among our own children. And we all need to figure out where we stand.

Peace is even more difficult, he observed, „when arms production, sales, and trade are on the rise“ and public funds spent on arms can come at the expense of bread for the hungry. He decried „the interests and the profits that move the puppet strings of war.“ And these must be brought to light, „talked about and written about,“ he emphasised, since many have no idea how much of their public funds are being spent on weapons, whereas they should be informed.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a war crime, although one that was provoked by NATO expansion and by the United States backing of the 2014 “Maidan” coup which ousted the democratically elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Yanukovych wanted economic integration with the European Union, but not at the expense of economic and political ties with Russia. The war will only be solved through negotiations that allow ethnic Russians in Ukraine to have autonomy and Moscow’s protection, as well as Ukrainian neutrality, which means the country cannot join NATO. The longer these negotiations are delayed the more Ukrainians will suffer and die. Their cities and infrastructure will continue to be pounded into rubble.

The militarists win every election. They cannot lose. It is impossible to vote against them. The war state is a Götterdämmerung, as Dwight Macdonald writes, “without the gods.”

Daniel Ellsberg — who died Friday at 92 — fully expected to spend the rest of his life in prison after he leaked the Pentagon Papers to The New York Times and The Washington Post in 1971. The documents revealed decades of government lies and mistakes about the war in Vietnam, and eventually, they helped end it.
The charges against Ellsberg were ultimately dismissed, but he had a secret: The Pentagon Papers were only supposed to be the beginning. Alongside the documents about Vietnam, he’d copied thousands of pages of other documents about America’s nuclear war planning that he believed would shock the public conscience. But a series of mishaps kept those documents from ever coming to light.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has begun talks with a delegation of seven African nations that arrived in St. Petersburg to look for solutions to the Ukraine crisis.
The meeting is taking place at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, which was a residence of the Romanov imperial family and now hosts official events, including international ones.

Das Kölner Amtsgericht hat eine 48 Jahre alte Frau wegen „Billigung des russischen Angriffskriegs auf die Ukraine“ schuldig gesprochen, wie Medien berichten. Die Richterin verurteilte die Frau am Dienstag zu einer Geldstrafe von 30 Tagessätzen zu je 30 Euro. Nach Überzeugung des Gerichts hatte die Ukrainerin am 8. Mai 2022 „bei einer pro-russischen Demonstration“ in Köln den Krieg „für andere wahrnehmbar gutgeheißen und befürwortet“, wie es in der Urteilsbegründung hieß.
Laut Medienberichten hatte die Frau in einem Fernseh-Interview, das in der Verhandlung in Augenschein genommen wurde, gesagt: „Russland ist kein Aggressor“. Zudem habe sie gesagt, das Vorgehen Russlands sei „alternativlos“. Das Gericht war überzeugt, dass die Äußerungen der Frau geeignet seien, „den öffentlichen Frieden zu stören“.

Man hätte diese Liste der „braven“ Künstler laut dem Artikel noch erheblich verlängern können: Unter dem Stichwort #impfenschuetzt hatten einige Veranstalter und Künstler dafür geworben, sich impfen zu lassen – mit dabei waren Bands wie Die Toten Hosen, Beatsteaks, Tocotronic, Element of Crime, Isolation Berlin und Silbermond, die mit der Beteiligung an der Kampagne auch die durch die Corona-Politik und die aggressive Impfkampagne hervorgerufenen gesellschaftlichen Verwerfungen indirekt gerechtfertigt haben.
Auch die Band Die Ärzte gliederte sich auf ihrer Webseite voll in die dominante offizielle Darstellung ein: In einer Band-Mitteilung sollte wohl eine Schockwirkung mit Formulierungen wie „qualvollem Ersticken“ erzielt werden, die „Zukunft der Kultur“ wurde vom Impf-Fortschritt abhängig gemacht, ebenso war das Impfen laut „Die Ärzte“ (ganz Regierungslinie) Voraussetzung für „normale Bedingungen“ und dafür, dass „das Leben weitergeht“.

Nur wenn man plötzlich all diese Vorgänge und Verschiebungen aus den Augen verliert und sich in die seligen Zeiten des europäischen Konzerts zurückversetzt, kann man z. B. davon reden, das wir seit 40 Jahren einen ununterbrochenen Frieden haben. Dieser Standpunkt, für den nur die Vorgänge auf dem europäischen Kontinent existieren, bemerkt gar nicht, das wir gerade deshalb seit Jahrzehnten keinen Krieg in Europa haben, weil die internationalen Gegensätze über die engen Schranken des europäischen Kontinents ins ungemessene hinausgewachsen sind, weil europäische Fragen und Interessen jetzt auf dem Weltmeer und nicht in dem europäischen Krähwinkel ausgefochten werden. Die „Vereinigten Staaten Europas“ sind also eine Idee, die sowohl wirtschaftlich wie politisch dem Gang der Entwicklung direkt zuwiderläuft, von den Vorgängen des letzten Vierteljahrhunderts gar keine Notiz nimmt. Die Idee der europäischen Kulturgemeinschaft ist der Gedankenwelt des klassenbewußten Proletariats völlig fremd. Wie erwähnt, erließ das Heimatfrontkommando das Verbot von Menschenansammlungen über 1000 Personen bereits am 18. Juli. Trotzdem demonstrierten am 26. Juli 5000 Menschen auf dem Tel Aviver Rabin Platz gegen den Gaza-Krieg. Doch ausgerechnet am gestrigen weltweiten Aktionstag, wo die Chance bestanden hätte sich mit zahlreichen Demonstrationen und Gegnern des Gaza-Krieges international zu solidarisieren und organisieren, kniffen Meretz und Hadash, die seit Jahren durch das gewisse Nichts glänzen, und sagten die Demonstration ab.
Nicht so radikale Aktivisten, Sozialisten, Dissidenten, Intellektuelle: sie kündigten an, trotz Verbots des Regimes zu demonstrieren. (1, 2, 3, 4)
Nachdem sich Boulevardreporter zunächst höhnisch über die ausbleibenden Linken geäußert hatten, versammelten sich diese, vorsichtig umher schauend, langsam auf dem Rabin Platz, viele von ihnen Senioren. Letztlich wurden es rund 500 Leute. Schnell tauchten die üblichen Regimetreuen, Faschisten und Zionisten als Contras auf, darunter Hooligans. Aus deren Parolen seien die oben in Aufnahmen dokumentierten Plakate zitiert (1, 2): “Eine Nation, ein Land, ein Führer”. Manch einer fragte sich, wo er das wohl schon mal gehört hatte.

Genau die Aufgeregten, Befleissigten und Empörten, die den Massenmord in Gaza decken und dabei im selben Atemzug nur noch “jüdisch”, “Israel”, “Linke-Linke-Linke” und “Antisemitismus” rufen, wollen mit linken Israelis überhaupt nichts zu tun haben. Stattdessen verstecken sie sich hinter Apologeten die sie angenehm an der Schamdrüse kitzeln, während sie gleichzeitig um diejenigen Israelis einen großen Bogen machen, die ihnen irgendwie die Mehrheitsfähigkeit und damit das Mitschwimmen auf der Welle in der vermeintliche Masse von Deutschland versauen könnten.
Im Hintergrund steht eine weitere Klientel, die durchaus von der obenstehend beschriebenen zu unterscheiden ist, ebenso von den einfachen Sadisten: die Klientel der Soziopathen, kaltschnäuzigen Zyniker und politischen Kampfdrohnen mit Roboterideal. Soll heißen: explizit der Berliner Regierung und ihren Angestellten und Höflingen, auch in der etablierten Presse.
Die von uns am 2. August prognostizierte Strategie einer Verwicklung Deutschlands in den Gaza-Krieg, wahrscheinlich an irgendeiner Spieltheorie-Schiessbude von Think Tank Schlagdichtot ausgeheckt, ist gegen die Wand gefahren. Und das mit Schwung.
Wer es noch nicht mitbekommen hat: laut der Infratest Dimap Umfrage für die ARD (“Deutschlandtrend”), erhoben am 4. und 5. August, sind 69 Prozent dafür sich aus dem “Gaza-Konflikt” heraus zu halten, sind also gegen die Entsendung von Bundeswehr, Bundespolizei oder irgendwelcher “Inspektoren” in die aufständische israelische Kolonie Gaza.
Wir haben zwar nur ein paar Tausend Leserinnen und Leser am Tag. Aber tausend, sagte man zu meiner Zeit, sind auch kein Pappenstil. *winke, winke*

Eisenhower made these comparisons in the early years of the Cold War, shortly after the death of Joseph Stalin. As he told his speechwriter at the time, he was “tired…of just plain indictments of the Soviet regime.… [J]ust one thing matters. What have we got to offer the world?” He was looking for a positive alternative to what he described as the “dread road” the world was then on, which in his view could only lead to one of two outcomes: atomic war or immiseration tied to perpetual military buildups. He described the outcome of continuing with the status quo as “not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.”
