Suddenly ,from out of the Synthetic Music Box a Voice began to speak. The Voice of Reason, the Voice of Good Feeling. The sound-track roll was un winding itself in Synthetic Anti-Riot Speech Number Two (Medium Strength). Straight from the depths of a non-existent heart, „My friends, my friends!“ said the Voice so pathetically, with a note of such infinitely tender reproach that, behind their gas masks, even the policemen‘s eyes were momentarily dimmed with tears, „what is the meaning of this? Why aren‘t you all being happy and good together? Two minutes later the Voice and the soma vapour had produced their effect. In tears, the Deltas were kissing and hugging one another–half a dozen twins at a time in a comprehensive embrace. Even Helmholtz and the Savage were almost crying. A fresh supply of pill-boxes was brought in from the Bursary; a new distribution was hastily made and, to the sound of the Voice‘s richly affectionate, baritone valedictions, the twins dispersed, blubbering as though their hearts would break….

From Free Speech to Free Palestine: Six Decades of Student Protest
“You’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop,” he said. Soon the students would flood into a campus administration building.
That scene played out 60 years ago at the University of California, Berkeley. The words were directed at the university leadership, and referring to its restrictions on campus political activity. But the speech, from the student leader Mario Savio, and the sit-in that followed could have happened yesterday.

Like their association of civil rights and peace demonstrators with communism throughout the Cold War, politicians on both sides of the aisle are now broadly hurling claims of antisemitism against anyone protesting Israel’s war in Gaza, many of whom are Jewish.
The purpose then, as it is now, is to intimidate administrators into a false political choice: Will they protect students’ right to demonstrate or be seen as acquiescent to antisemitism?
Column: The crackdown on student protesters shows exactly why we need them
After all, the division over the war in Gaza is by no means confined to students. As has happened with so many rifts in our country’s history, students have simply used their activism to become a prism reflecting the wider world. Which is why they need to be taken seriously, for all of our sakes.
If they do nothing else, the growing demonstrations are forcing us to confront who we are, what we believe and why.
What is happening in Gaza is not a war “over there.” It’s right here, right now, among our own children. And we all need to figure out where we stand.

Article IV
States Parties to the Treaty undertake not to place in orbit around the earth any objects carrying nuclear weapons or any other kinds of weapons of mass destruction, install such weapons on celestial bodies, or station such weapons in outer space in any other manner.
The moon and other celestial bodies shall be used by all States Parties to the Treaty exclusively for peaceful purposes. The establishment of military bases, installations and fortifications, the testing of any type of weapons and the conduct of military manoeuvres on celestial bodies shall be forbidden. The use of military personnel for scientific research or for any other peaceful purposes shall not be prohibited. The use of any equipment or facility necessary for peaceful exploration of the moon and other celestial bodies shall also not be prohibited.

Pope: May Christmas bring peace to our world and turn sorrow into joy
Following the birth of the Saviour came the slaughter of the innocents, the Pope recalled, and he remembered the innocents, the „little Jesuses“ of today, who are victims „in their mothers’ wombs, in odysseys undertaken in desperation and in search of hope, in the lives of all those little ones whose childhood has been devastated by war.“
We must say „yes“ to peace and „no“ to war the Pope decried, as every war marks „a defeat without victors, an inexcusable folly.“ He also called for a „no“ to weaponry given that with human weakness we can often end up using it for war sooner or later.
Peace is even more difficult, he observed, „when arms production, sales, and trade are on the rise“ and public funds spent on arms can come at the expense of bread for the hungry. He decried „the interests and the profits that move the puppet strings of war.“ And these must be brought to light, „talked about and written about,“ he emphasised, since many have no idea how much of their public funds are being spent on weapons, whereas they should be informed.
Hostage Deaths Fuel Israelis’ Doubts About Netanyahu

“I inherited the Oslo Accords,” he says. “The decision to bring the PLO from Tunis, and plant it in the heart of Judea and Samaria [West Bank], and in Gaza, was a decision made and implemented before I became prime minister. I thought it was a terrible mistake and I still do.”

Der Eindruck, den Lars machte, war durchaus der eines Mannes von Geltung. The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a war crime, although one that was provoked by NATO expansion and by the United States backing of the 2014 “Maidan” coup which ousted the democratically elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Yanukovych wanted economic integration with the European Union, but not at the expense of economic and political ties with Russia. The war will only be solved through negotiations that allow ethnic Russians in Ukraine to have autonomy and Moscow’s protection, as well as Ukrainian neutrality, which means the country cannot join NATO. The longer these negotiations are delayed the more Ukrainians will suffer and die. Their cities and infrastructure will continue to be pounded into rubble.
It‘s Time to Make Israel‘s Protest Impolite

Social-science research shows that, unlike in the past century, 21st-century democracies don’t become dictatorships through force or military coups, but through gradual legislative changes. Emerging dictatorships exploit democracy‘s tools such as freedom of expression in order to deceive the public. Step by step they pass laws that empty the country’s democratic institutions of their moral values.
Before you know it, the country is left with an empty shell of democratic institutions, and the citizens remain without protection from the government‘s arbitrariness and without means for returning to the status quo.
Remember when it was shocking when the government lied to you? There was once such a time.
I remember my father telling me sadly, “Politicians lie.” That was in the 1960s, when people expected honesty. By now, we’ve been lied to so many times we automatically discount all political speech and try to decode it for the “message.” Get ready to start expecting the truth again from government agencies when I am President. #Kennedy24
The Enemy From Within
America is a stratocracy, a form of government dominated by the military. It is axiomatic among the two ruling parties that there must be a constant preparation for war. The war machine’s massive budgets are sacrosanct. Its billions of dollars in waste and fraud are ignored. Its military fiascos in Southeast Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East have disappeared into the vast cavern of historical amnesia. This amnesia, which means there is never accountability, licenses the war machine to economically disembowel the country and drive the Empire into one self-defeating conflict after another. The militarists win every election. They cannot lose. It is impossible to vote against them. The war state is a Götterdämmerung, as Dwight Macdonald writes, “without the gods.”

The documents revealed decades of government lies and mistakes about the war in Vietnam, and eventually, they helped end it.
The charges against Ellsberg were ultimately dismissed, but he had a secret: The Pentagon Papers were only supposed to be the beginning. Alongside the documents about Vietnam, he’d copied thousands of pages of other documents about America’s nuclear war planning that he believed would shock the public conscience. But a series of mishaps kept those documents from ever coming to light.

Die FDP spricht sich für einen „Verfassungskonvent“ aus, der „die Grundlage für einen föderal und dezentral verfassten Europäischen Bundesstaat“ legen soll. Und die Grünen haben eine „Föderale Europäische Republik mit einer europäischen Verfassung“ zu ihrem „Fixstern“ erklärt.

Putin begins talks on Ukraine with African leaders
Russian President Vladimir Putin has begun talks with a delegation of seven African nations that arrived in St. Petersburg to look for solutions to the Ukraine crisis.
The meeting is taking place at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, which was a residence of the Romanov imperial family and now hosts official events, including international ones.
Urteil wegen „Billigung des russischen Angriffskriegs“: Vorsicht – eine falsche Meinung kann jetzt kriminell sein
Das Kölner Amtsgericht hat eine 48 Jahre alte Frau wegen „Billigung des russischen Angriffskriegs auf die Ukraine“ schuldig gesprochen, wie Medien berichten. Die Richterin verurteilte die Frau am Dienstag zu einer Geldstrafe von 30 Tagessätzen zu je 30 Euro. Nach Überzeugung des Gerichts hatte die Ukrainerin am 8. Mai 2022 „bei einer pro-russischen Demonstration“ in Köln den Krieg „für andere wahrnehmbar gutgeheißen und befürwortet“, wie es in der Urteilsbegründung hieß.
Laut Medienberichten hatte die Frau in einem Fernseh-Interview, das in der Verhandlung in Augenschein genommen wurde, gesagt: „Russland ist kein Aggressor“. Zudem habe sie gesagt, das Vorgehen Russlands sei „alternativlos“. Das Gericht war überzeugt, dass die Äußerungen der Frau geeignet seien, „den öffentlichen Frieden zu stören“.
Wer solche Künstler hat, braucht keine Mitläufer mehr
Man hätte diese Liste der „braven“ Künstler laut dem Artikel noch erheblich verlängern können: Unter dem Stichwort #impfenschuetzt hatten einige Veranstalter und Künstler dafür geworben, sich impfen zu lassen – mit dabei waren Bands wie Die Toten Hosen, Beatsteaks, Tocotronic, Element of Crime, Isolation Berlin und Silbermond, die mit der Beteiligung an der Kampagne auch die durch die Corona-Politik und die aggressive Impfkampagne hervorgerufenen gesellschaftlichen Verwerfungen indirekt gerechtfertigt haben.
Auch die Band Die Ärzte gliederte sich auf ihrer Webseite voll in die dominante offizielle Darstellung ein: In einer Band-Mitteilung sollte wohl eine Schockwirkung mit Formulierungen wie „qualvollem Ersticken“ erzielt werden, die „Zukunft der Kultur“ wurde vom Impf-Fortschritt abhängig gemacht, ebenso war das Impfen laut „Die Ärzte“ (ganz Regierungslinie) Voraussetzung für „normale Bedingungen“ und dafür, dass „das Leben weitergeht“.
