Republicans will now race to replace Graham on the November ballot in a special primary election in mid-August, according to state law.

PHRI demands the immediate removal of Dr. Abu Safiya from the Rekafet underground security facility and an urgent assessment of his condition by an independent actor, before it is too late.
“I have visited Dr Abu Safiya several times since his detention, but the individual I encountered during this latest visit was not the same person I had previously met,” Odeh said on Sunday, calling for an immediate independent medical examination. ‘‘His physical and psychological state, the severe injuries visible on his body, and his personal testimony leave no room for doubt: his life is in immediate danger.”
Abu Safiya appeared frightened, distressed and reluctant to speak freely in the meeting, Odeh said, but told his lawyer that he was subjected to daily beatings in the Rakefet jail, and had lost consciousness several times as a result.
Rakefet, where prisoners never see daylight, was built in the 1980s to hold senior organised crime figures before being closed on the grounds it was inhumane. It was reopened on the orders of the far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya has been in Israeli captivity for 18 months, ever since Israeli forces shut down the crucial Kamal Adwan Hospital – the second largest in northern Gaza – in the winter of 2024.
Now, Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) is relaying a warning from Abu Safiya’s lawyer, Nasser Odeh, that the prominent Palestinian pediatrician and hospital director is in “life-threatening condition” and enduring “daily violence and beatings.”
(Two servicemen of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) have been martyred and two others injured when terrorists opened fire on their home in the Western province of Kermanshah.
The IRGC Public Relations Department for Kermanshah Province announced in a statement on Tuesday morning that armed assailants fired at the door of the residence of the two local members of the force in the border town of Paveh, killing both on the spot.Two others were injured in the terror attack, though no details on their condition were immediately available.
Three vessels with Indian crew members onboard were attacked by the United States over the past three days near the coast of Oman. The attacks on the MT Jalveer, Settebello, and MT Marivex coincide with the US and Iran renewing hostilities against each other. The attacks were condemned by the ministry of external affairs.
The US military said it attacked the oil tanker, MT Settebello, after it tried to “violate” the blockade put up by the US outside the Strait of Hormuz, off the Oman coast.
Earlier, Forward Seamen’s Union of India general secretary Manoj Yadav told news agency ANI: “We have been unable to establish a connection with the ship. The latest information I have indicates that two have died, while the Chief Engineer is still reported as missing.”
The deceased were identified as Suresh Patnala, Aditya Sharma (deck cadet) and Shivanand Chaurasiya (fitter).

Kuwait International Airport says it has resumed Kuwait Airways flights from Terminal 4 after suspending them following Iran’s drone and missile strikes.
The move comes “following the completion of the technical teams and competent authorities’ assessment of the damages and taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of operational processes”, the official Kuna news agency reported.

Kuwait has suspended all commercial flights following a heavy Iranian drone strike on its international airport passenger terminal on Wednesday. The attack left one person dead and several others injured, severely damaging the facility and escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
Iran said it had attacked US bases and helicopters in a „regional country“ using missiles and drones in retaliation. Centcom said Tehran fired two missiles at Kuwait and three at Bahrain, all of which broke apart or were intercepted.
Kuwait‘s army later said Iranian drones had hit its international airport, causing „significant“ building damage and injuries to a number of people.
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry says one person was killed as a result of the drone and missile strikes on a terminal at its international airport.
It expressed “condemnation and denunciation, in the strongest terms, of the brutal and ongoing Iranian attacks using ballistic missiles and drones”, said a statement on X.
The strikes “targeting once again civilian and vital facilities, including Kuwait International Airport, resulted in the death of one individual, injuries to others, and damage to vital facilities, including diplomatic missions”.

“I’m hearing from advocates and families on the ground reports of ICE pepper spraying and beating detainees inside Delaney Hall. I have seen the horrific conditions and spoken to those inside about the disgusting food, lack of medical care, and violent and unsanitary conditions as recently as this week. With demoted former USCBP Commander Greg Bovino’s announcement that he is coming to Newark today and his threats online to tear gas our community, I have even more concern that he will only escalate the chaos at Delaney,” said McIver. “More ICE violence has never made a situation safer. The only solution to stop the abuse at Delaney Hall and quell this terror nationwide is to shut down the facility and abolish ICE. We will keep standing up to this administration’s terror campaign and we will keep fighting for justice.”
On Monday, McIver made her fourth visit to Delaney Hall. The chaos created by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during McIver’s first visit to Delaney Hall, led to the Trump administration bringing baseless charges against her for conducting oversight. Her second visit came on the heels of the death of Jean Wilson Brutus in ICE custody. Her third visit was following the release of the S.O.S. letter signed by 300 detainees.

This marks the first death of a Delaney Hall detainee since it opened earlier this year. Immigrant advocates are demanding more information from authorities on exactly what happened and why it took a week for ICE to announce Brutus’ death.
Kathy O’Leary, an activist who holds vigils at the detention center, said she was there last week when an ambulance pulled onto the jail’s property, and she heard discussions of someone having a medical emergency over guards’ walkie-talkies. That ambulance was held up leaving the jail by a van dropping off new detainees, she added.
It wasn’t until ICE put out the statement Thursday evening that she learned about Brutus’ death.

The shooting occurred outside the White House at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Somewhere between approximately 15 to 30 gunshots were fired, law enforcement sources told CBS News.
Multiple CBS News reporters who were on the White House North Lawn said they heard what sounded like gunfire at around 6 p.m. ET before U.S. Secret Service ushered them inside.

In a deeply embarrassing development for Baghdad, Israel established two forward-operating bases (FOBs) for supporting air campaigns against Iran on federal Iraqi territory in a flagrant violation of Iraq’s already fragile sovereignty.
The Wall Street Journal reported the first base’s existence, in the barren Nukhaib desert southwest of the Shia shrine cities of Najaf and Karbala, on 9 May.
