Der Paragraph 60 „Schutzmaßnahmen“ hätte sicher Ulbrichts und Mielkes Zustimmung unter dem Label „demokratische Gesetzlichkeit“ gefunden, wenn der Entwurf feststellt:

„(2) Schutzmaßnahmen sind das verdeckte Einwirken auf

1. Gegenstände, die für die Bedrohung gegenwärtig oder absehbar eingesetzt werden, insbesondere durch

a) Beeinträchtigung der Funktion von Tatmitteln,
b) Umleitung oder Unterbindung von Datenverkehren oder der Übertragung von Informationen, einschließlich technischer Signale und Programmdateien, sowie die Veränderung der Übertragungsinhalte,
c) Bereitstellung falscher Informationen für Beteiligte,
d) Löschung oder Verfälschung von Informationen, die für Zwecke der Bedrohung gespeichert sind…“

Künftig darf der deutsche Inlandsgeheimdienst in die Privatsphäre eingreifen, in dem er Informationen beschafft, sie verändert, sie verfälscht. Er darf damit jeder politischen Partei und jedem Bürger gefälschte Informationen unterschieben, die er dann zum Anlass nimmt, gegen sie oder ihn vorzugehen.

Meinungsfreiheit: Die Normalisierung des Autoritären

Fast wäre man versucht zu sagen: Was waren das für Zeiten, als Meinungsabweichler nur als „Verschwörungstheoretiker“ öffentlich diffamiert wurden! Im Vergleich zu dem, was heute passiert, waren diese Zeiten geradezu harmlos – könnte man meinen. Doch harmlos waren schon die Übergriffe nur mit Worten nie. Das Feuer war bereits zu sehen.

Und heute? Wer die falsche Meinung vertritt, wird von Medien nach wie vor als „umstritten“ oder als „rechts“ bezeichnet mit dem Ziel: mundtot machen. Zum Schweigen bringen.

Doch längst passiert mehr.

Was wir erleben, hat mit dem Geist der Demokratie nichts mehr zu tun. Vielmehr weht der Wind des Autoritären und zunehmend des Totalitären durch die Republik.

Ein weiteres zentrales Element ist die systematische Spaltung der Gesellschaft. Während der Pandemie wurde die Bevölkerung in „gehorsam“ und „ungehorsam“ geteilt – eine Spaltung, die bis heute nachwirkt. Dieselbe Technik wird nun auf die Frage nach Krieg und Frieden angewendet. Wer Verhandlungen fordert oder die offizielle Darstellung hinterfragt, riskiert, als „Feindbegünstiger“ oder unzuverlässig eingestuft zu werden.

Das Ergebnis ist ein permanenter Staatsstreich, der sich vor aller Augen abspielt, doch für eine Bevölkerung, die darauf trainiert ist, ihn nicht zu sehen, unsichtbar bleibt. Es gibt eine weit verbreitete Selbstzensur. Viele Menschen schweigen, obwohl sie intern andere Positionen vertreten. Wenzel beschreibt eine Gesellschaft, die gelernt hat, Schweigen mit Stabilität zu verwechseln und Widerstand als größere Gefahr zu betrachten als die bestehenden Zustände.

The court‘s decision is narrow and declines to define what constitutes „cause“ under the federal law that created the Fed. It said such a definition must reflect the central bank‘s „unique historical status and role.“

The farce of Israel’s ‘liberal’ investigative journalism

Two weeks ago, the investigative program HaMakor on Israel’s Channel 13 aired a 60-minute report on the December 2023 killing of three Israeli hostages — Yotam Haim, Alon Shamriz, and Samer Al-Talalka — who were shot by Israeli soldiers in Shuja’iya, eastern Gaza City, after emerging from a hiding place carrying a white flag.

Even without intimate knowledge of the details, one thing should have been clear from the outset: When soldiers fire from inside buildings at three shirtless men carrying a white flag, kill two of them, then pursue the third, call him out of hiding, and shoot him dead, the issue is not merely “mistaken identity.” The issue is that Israeli soldiers routinely shoot innocent people. One would have to be extraordinarily naïve to believe that the single time this happened, the victims just happened to be Israelis.

Das Vergehen von der in Schwetzingen Geborenen: Sie hatte sich regimekritisch geäußert. Die Nazis sahen in ihr eine Hetzerin. Zuerst erfolgte eine Verurteilung wegen „Heimtücke“. Schäfer hielt sich aber nicht zurück. Nach ihrer Haftentlassung stellte sie in ihrem Mietshaus gegenüber ihren Mietern Kriegserfolge der Wehrmacht infrage. Das war ihr Todesurteil. Stichwort: „Wehrkraftzersetzung“. Ihre Hinrichtung erfolgte am 23. Februar 1945. Die Geschichte lehrt uns: Auf die Meinungsfreiheit kommt es vor allem dann an, wenn sie sich gegen die vorherrschende Politik richtet.

Modern political policing began in Britain in the 1880s, with the establishment of the Metropolitan Police’s Special Branch, the cocoon from which sprung the undercover policing operations decades later. The Branch originally aimed to combat Irish Fenians — armed fighters seeking independence from Britain — but soon expanded to keep tabs on foreign anarchists, suffragettes, and anticolonial Indians.

At the end of the 1800s, an undercover Branch officer infiltrated the Legitimation League — which campaigned to de-stigmatize bastard children — and orchestrated the League’s collapse. This operation set the tone for what was to come: intense, deeply personal infiltration of any political group that challenged the status quo.

According to Odeh, “Every hostage returned from Gaza is a victory. Every child and family who survived Gaza is a victory. But that is not the victory Netanyahu wants.” He said, “What has been achieved and at what price? Palestinian cities have been erased from the map. Tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza were killed, including 20,000 children. Hundreds of thousands were left without homes. This is not a victory. This is devastation,” and called on “those responsible for crimes against humanity” to be held accountable.

“The Israeli state was already like Sparta – now it has become a super Sparta. If this is victory, what does defeat look like?” Odeh wondered. Odeh also urged Germany to recognize a Palestinian state, saying that the only request he had of U.S. President Donald Trump when he came to address Israel’s Knesset in October was to recognize a Palestinian state. “So, I ask you too: Germany – recognize Palestine! Recognize that there are two people in our shared homeland, both with the right to self-determination,” he cried out, to great applause.

Regarding Germany, Odeh said that Berlin “carries the scars of the 20th century and stands as a living reminder of how far human cruelty can go when power is absolute. When racism is normalized and people are dehumanized. But a city like Berlin can be both a graveyard for history, resistance culture and rebirth,” he said. Odeh also said the history of Berlin teaches that “silence in the face of injustice is deadly. It was silence that made the greatest crime of the century possible. And yet, today we see silence return, dressed up in diplomatic language.”

One target at a time: The logic that helped Israeli liberals commit genocide

Yet to see the past two years not only through the prism of genocide but also as a second Nakba — a sustained project of erasure aimed at destroying both a people and the space they inhabit — may bring us closer to grasping the nature of Israel’s actions. Whereas genocide is often understood as violence for its own sake, the Nakba represents violence with a purpose: the removal and replacement of a people.

And yet, as a Jewish-Israeli faced with the horrors of the past two years, I cannot help but think in Holocaust terms. The destruction of Gaza has enabled me to better understand not only the stories of the victims but also of the perpetrators — the silent majority who facilitated atrocities through their actions and the stories they tell themselves to justify it all.

Gibt es Überlegungen, aus der Flottila eine dauerhafte Bewegung gegen Apartheid und Genozid zu entwickeln?

Flotillas gibt es ja schon seit Beginn der Blockade und es wird sie auch so lange geben, bis sie endet. Durch die Sumud Flotilla haben sich unglaublich viele Menschen kennengelernt und vernetzt. Viele haben verstanden, wie wichtig kollektive Organisation ist. Der Generalstreik in Italien – dass Arbeiterinnen und Arbeiter den italienischen Staat zum Handeln gezwungen haben – hat gezeigt, was es praktisch bedeutet, wenn sich alle zusammentun. Ich bin sicher, dass daraus etwas entstehen wird. Diese Netzwerke werden wachsen.

Die Repression nimmt zu. Das kann natürlich auch in offenen Totalitarismus kippen, wie wir das in den USA bereits sehen.

Israel is waging a holocaust in Gaza. Denazification is our only remedy

What Israel is doing in Gaza City is not the tragic byproduct of chaotic events on the ground, but a well-calculated act of annihilation, executed in cold blood by “the people’s army” — that is, the fathers, sons, brothers, and neighbors of us Israelis.

How is it that, despite the mounting testimonies from Gaza’s concentration and extermination camps, no mass refusal movement has taken root in Israel? That after two years of this carnage barely a handful of conscientious objectors sit in prison is truly inconceivable. Even the so-called “gray refusers” — reserve soldiers who do not oppose the war on ideological grounds but are simply exhausted and questioning its purpose — remain far too few to slow the killing machine, let alone bring it to a halt.

Who are these obedient souls who keep this system running? How can a society so deeply fractured — between the religious and the secular, settlers and liberals, kibbutzniks and urbanites, veteran immigrants and new arrivals — unite only in its willingness to slaughter Palestinians without a moment’s hesitation?
