Jade McCauley was due to start a completely new job tomorrow which would have bumped her yearly salary up by £8,000.
However, the community nurse at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield had a change of due to her passion for helping patients.
The 34-year-old spoke to the Mirror on the picket line outside the hospital today.
She also raised concerns about patient safety and called on Rishi Sunak to „spend a day in our shoes“.

Palestinian Lawyer Salah Hamouri is to be Deported to France on Sunday

Hamouri, a lawyer and a field researcher with the Addameer Prisoners’ Support and Human Rights Association, spent more than eight years in Israeli prisons, starting when he was abducted in 2001 and was sentenced to five months in prison. In 2004 he spent four months under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges, then was abducted again in the year 2005 and was imprisoned for seven years, and then in the year 2017, he was abducted yet another time and spent 13 months under Administrative Detention orders, and upon his release, he received an order barring him from entering the rest of the West Bank for two years.
On June 6, 2022, Salah received another three-month Administrative Detention order just hours before his scheduled release after being imprisoned for three months under a similar order. The decision to revoke his residency was made in October of last year, 2021, after accusing him of “breeching loyalty to the state” for his human rights and legal work in defending Palestinian political prisoners.
Hamouri was born to a Palestinian father from Jerusalem where he grew up and lived, and his mother is a French national. Several years earlier, Israel deported his French wife, Elsa Lefort, to her country after detaining her at the airport in Tel Aviv for three days when she returned to Jerusalem. The lawyer and his wife have two children.
Palestinians born in occupied Jerusalem are only granted “residency status” and not citizenship of Israel despite Israel’s constant claims of “unified Jerusalem as its capital.”

France condemned Israel’s decision to deport Palestinian lawyer Salah Hammouri, who holds French citizenship, on Sunday morning by order of Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, following a years-long effort by Israeli authorities to revoke his residency status.
“Today, we condemn the illegal decision of the Israeli authorities to deport Mr. Salah Hammouri to France,” the statement read.

Israeli military chiefs condemn assault of troops by leftist activists
Israel’s military chief of staff condemned an assault on Israeli troops in the West Bank by left-wing activists, including an off-duty soldier.
The incident took place earlier on Friday near the Hebron Mount in the West Bank and saw left-wing Israelis, Palestinians, and one off-duty Israeli soldier clash with and hurl stones at Israeli troops posted at the site.
Israel’s Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Aviv Kochavi condemned the attack, saying it represented „a very serious incident.“

Gabriel Shipton accepted the so-called ‘keys to Mexico City’ on behalf of his brother amid increasing efforts to persuade authorities in the UK, US and Australia to release Assange from prison.

Jeff Kurtz: Okay, thank you, Max. I’d like the viewers to imagine that their life is a scorecard, because that’s exactly what these workers are facing. They start off with a score of 30 points that they can never exceed that 30 points. They will get four points allocated back to their score. Say they get down to 20 points. If they work 14 days in a row, they will get four points allocated back to their score. But the points that you can lose are really dramatic. So, I mean, you could lose points for an incident. You could lose 15 points for an incident.
There are specific incidents. If you don’t show up for work for whatever reason. We had a gentleman that was in a car wreck, and it wasn’t his fault. He was about a mile from his terminal and his car was totaled. And the supervisor that came out there told him, she said, you’re not going to work. She said, you could be hurt, and we don’t know it. So they, what we call marked this guy off. They marked him off the job. Well, he initially was saddled with a 15 point deduction for not showing up to work. And eventually, I think that the local supervisor protested this, so they only docked him three points.
But this is exactly what’s going on. I heard of a case where a worker, his mother died while he was en route, and the railroad pulled him off the train, and then they tried to dock him points for it. And the stories just go on and on and on. And Max, what you alluded to as far as things getting worse when people aren’t watching, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Former British soldier Jordan Gatley ‘shot and killed’ while fighting Russians on the frontline in Ukraine
Jordan Gatley left the British Army in March and flew out to Ukraine to help at the beginning of the invasion “after careful consideration”, wrote his father Dean Gatley in an emotional tribute on Facebook.
According to the post, Jordan was killed amid intense fighting in the city of Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine. The family received the news on Friday.
His father confirmed “the devastating news that our son, Jordan, has been shot and killed in the city of Severodonetsk, Ukraine.”
Hundreds Protest Al Jazeera Journalist’s Killing Across Israel

Hundreds gathered in rallies organized by Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) on Wednesday and Thursday to protest the death of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, who was killed by Israeli occupation forces and in the West Bank.
200 people demonstrated in Haifa, waving Palestinian flags, holding pictures of Abu-Aqleh and carrying signs bearing texts in Hebrew and Arabic reading “Occupation = terror.” “We stand here this evening in protest of the murder of the journalist Abu Aqleh today in Jenin,” Raja Zaatry, chairman of the Haifa branch of the Hadash, said. He described Abu Akleh’s killing as “a grave crime that is added to the many crimes of the occupation, which is the main and daily terror in this country.”

The panic sounded by Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid, as well as the false claims made by various Israeli “Hasbara” organizations, as if the report is an attempt to deny the State of Israel’s right to exist, reveal their stance – that a regime of Jewish supremacy is justifiable, and should be perpetuated. Yet, the demand for equality and for the protection of human rights for all, threatens only those opposed to these values. The claim that this demand causes them harm makes it abundantly clear which side they have chosen.

“Change” Gov’t Approves 31 New Projects in Occupied West Bank
On Friday, June 25, the United Nations accused Israel of blatantly violating international law and called on it to halt the illegal expansions in settlements. According to Al-Ittihad, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General and Tor Wennesland, UN Mideast envoy, cited Security Council resolution 2334 from December 2016 that declared the occupation’s settlements as having “no legal validity.”

Settler Brutally Assaults Rabbi Defending Palestinian Bedouin
The former president of Rabbis for Human Rights was violently assaulted by a far-right Israeli settler on Wednesday, April 7 near the illegal Maale Ahuvia outpost in the occupied Palestinian territories. Video footage of the brutal attack shows Rabbi Arik Ascherman conversing with a masked settler, then suddenly being attacked by another who repeatedly beats him with a long wooden club while, off-camera, cries of “No violence” are intoned.
According to Zo Haderech, Ascherman arrived at the scene after he had been contacted by local Palestinians.
Israel Police injure lawmaker during clashes with protesters in Jerusalem
Lawmaker Ofer Cassif, the sole Jewish member of the predominantly Arab Joint List faction, had his glasses broken and shirt torn, outlet N12 reported.
The out-of-ordinary incident occurred in a weekly rally of some hundreds of people who came to protest against the evacuation of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood for Jewish residents, according to outlet Haaretz.

Mother of Julian Assange’s children says if a British court sends her fiancé to face life in a US jail, this country’s no longer a safe haven for free speech
But that is what would happen if the UK decides to extradite Julian. It would rewrite the rules of what it is permissible to publish here. Overnight, it would chill free and open debate about abuses by our own government and by many foreign ones, too.
In effect, foreign countries could simply issue an extradition request saying that UK journalists, or Facebook users for that matter, have violated their censorship laws.
Reporters Without Borders and the National Union of Journalists have said that as long as Julian remains in prison facing extradition, the UK is not a safe place for journalists and publishers to work.
The press freedoms we cherish in Britain are meaningless if they can be criminalised and suppressed by regimes in Russia or Ankara or by prosecutors in Alexandria, Virginia.
If Westminster Magistrates‘ Court accepts the US arguments tomorrow, every other country can use them, too. It would place an impossible burden on you, me, everyone, not to violate foreign censorship laws.

Ilhan Omar (D-MN) unveiled the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, a bill to institute a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. The bill would constitute a full payment forgiveness, with no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners and no negative impact on their credit rating or rental history. The legislation will establish a relief fund for landlords and mortgage holders to cover losses from the cancelled payments and create an optional fund to fully finance the purchase of private rental properties by non-profits, public housing authorities, cooperatives, community land trusts, and states or local governments—in order to increase the availability of affordable housing during this downturn.

A leading member of the Communist Party of Israel, Joint List MK Ofer Cassif (Hadash) has denounced the growing number of attacks voiced in recent days against Israel’s ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) population, which has been hit hardest by the coronavirus, partially due to a small minority in the sector’s refusal to comply with the Health Ministry guidelines. “The guidelines must be followed. The hatred for the ultra-Orthodox must be denounced and extracted from within us, like all racism,” said Cassif.

Conte said anybody who thinks they can force Italy to accept disciplinary terms as a condition for loans – a sort of „Troika“ regime – have gravely misjudged the mood of his nation. Italy will not take the money. “We will do it alone,” he said.
The message is that if there is no EU solidarity when it matters, then it no longer makes sense for Italy to accept EU surveillance and constraints, or for Italy to forgo use of its own sovereign policy instruments in self-defence.
