Antiwar and countercultural activism by millions of young people of every backgound turned campuses and cities into both battle grounds and zones of social and cultural innovation while helping to bring down two presidents and rearranging both the Democratic and Republican Parties. The impact of these movements registered widely: in the military which had to be redesigned to operate without conscription; in mass media which scrambled to recapture a generation that had discovered underground newspapers; and especially in the new ways that many Americans would from then on view their nation‘s institutions and role in the world.

Happy New Year. Our Society Is Every Bit As Diseased As You Suspect It Is.
The public is becoming more and more restless and agitated because they can sense that something’s wrong but can’t say what it is, like a dementia patient with a urinary tract infection. This agitation is erupting in ways which range from the crazy to the very lucid, from hate crimes and racist movements to mass protests against genocide and an expanding awareness that a better world is possible.
Our job at this point in history is to try to steer this growing restlessness toward health and clarity. To help people understand where the real bad guys are, to highlight the manipulations and abusive systems at play here, to assure everyone that their growing sense that something is very wrong is absolutely correct, and to help them see exactly what’s causing it.
Iranian press review: China and Russia criticised over response to Israeli strikes
(November 2, 2024)
The daily continued to criticise the stances of these two countries, comparing them to some European nations that have tense relations with Iran.
As western sanctions against Iran have increased in recent years, Tehran has strengthened economic ties with Moscow and Beijing, with one key outcome being the sale of cheap oil to China.

Russia sees military coordination with Israel on Syria continuing
(February 26, 2022)
Following the 2015 Russian intervention in the Syrian civil war, Israel set up a „deconfliction mechanism“ with the big power to prevent them clashing inadvertently during Israeli strikes against Iranian deployments and arms transfers in the neighbouring Arab state.
„Our military officials discuss the practical issues of this substantively on a daily basis. This mechanism has proven to be useful and will continue to work,“ the Russian embassy in Israel said in a statement.

Oct. 25, 1971 | People’s Republic of China In, Taiwan Out, at U.N.
(October 25, 2011)
On Oct. 25, 1971, the United Nations General Assembly voted to admit the People’s Republic of China (mainland China) and to expel the Republic of China (Taiwan). The Communist P.R.C. therefore assumed the R.O.C.’s place in the General Assembly as well as its place as one of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. (…)
The United States, the most significant opponent of the resolution, then argued for the P.R.C. to be admitted separately from the R.O.C., which would have allowed the R.O.C. to retain its spot. The proposal was defeated.

America‘s new generation of student protesters is giving hope to Palestinians
We raise our hats out of respect for them, as these protests in the universities and streets of the western world and the Global South keep the flame of hope burning in the souls of our people who long for freedom and justice.
These protests indicate profound, radical changes that separate an ageing American generation that blindly supports Israel and a new generation that promotes justice in Palestine and demands an end to the Israeli occupation and to the war on Gaza.
They represent the future of America and its bright face, the emergence of which we have long awaited.
NOTICE: As the night progresses, we have received word from someone arrested inside of Hamilton that NYPD stormed the building and proceeded to tackle and body slam protesters, and attacked them with batons, shields, and sound grenades. We ask all Columbia affiliates in proximity to NYPD to continue recording whatever they can.

Israel and U.S. Are on Alert for Iran to Strike Back at Israel

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — An Israeli airstrike that demolished Iran’s consulate in Syria on Monday killed two Iranian generals and five officers, according to Iranian officials. The strike appeared to signify an escalation of Israel’s targeting of military officials from Iran, which supports militant groups fighting Israel in Gaza, and along its border with Lebanon.

Libya, Syria, Somalia and Yemen: Calculating the Millions-High Death Toll of America’s Post-9/11 Wars
(26.4.2018)
As Barbara Lee presciently warned her colleagues before she cast her lone dissenting vote in 2001, we have “become the evil we deplore.” But these wars have not been accompanied by fearsome military parades (not yet) or speeches about conquering the world. Instead they have been politically justified by “information warfare” to demonize enemies and fabricate crises, and then waged in a “disguised, quiet, media free” way, to hide their cost in human blood from the American public and the world.
After 16 years of war, about 6 million violent deaths, 6 countries utterly destroyed and many more destabilized, it is urgent that the American public come to terms with the true human cost of our country’s wars and how we have been manipulated and misled into turning a blind eye to them – before they go on even longer, destroy more countries, further undermine the rule of international law and kill millions more of our fellow human beings.

Voters Support the U.S. Calling for Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza and Conditioning Military Aid to Israel
(27.02.2024)
A new survey from Data for Progress asked likely U.S. voters about various foreign policy issues, particularly related to the ongoing war in Gaza.
When asked if they approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling the Israel-Palestine conflict, voters disapprove by a -21-point margin, with 57% disapproving and 36% approving. This margin has increased since Data for Progress started polling this question in early November, with approval highest in late November after the last temporary ceasefire began.

Barbara Lee‘s 9/14/01 Speech
Barbara Lee explains her rationale for voting against the Authorization to Use Military Force in Afghanistan, citing the overly broad nature of the bill.
‘I wish I had been wrong,’ says Barbara Lee, lone congresswoman who voted to oppose Afghan war in 2001
(August 18, 2021)
In the days after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, just one member of Congress voted against giving President Bush authority to go to war in Afghanistan.
Barbara Lee, a Democratic representative from California, warned at the time that approving the so-called Authorisation for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) could mean the US would be embarking “on an open-ended war with neither an exit strategy nor a focused target.”

War on Gaza: Arab despots‘ failure to stand up to Israel could fuel an explosion
But something else is happening that is just as important: Palestine is being officially defended by the Global South. South Africa has taken the lead by launching the case for genocide at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
Palestine, at the same time, is reemerging as a global cause, just as was the case in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. The composition of South Africa’s team of lawyers says it all: multi-ethnic, male, female, Irish, British, South African. There was no Palestinian officially with them in the group. And yet, a day after the hearing ended, there were massive demonstrations in 45 countries – but not in Egypt, Saudi Arabia or even Algeria.
Gaza: Children Under Attack
„The nightmare in Gaza is more than a humanitarian crisis, it is a crisis of humanity.“

Civil rights groups in Israel file petition demanding authorisation for anti-war protests
The petition was filed after the police refused on Tuesday to approve the protest, for the third time.
The petition states that the police‘s refusal to approve the protest „joins the systematic oppression of protests, even small demonstrations, that criticise the combat, its results, and demand a diplomatic solution“.

Yahalom Unit: a specialized Israeli Defense Forces combat engineering corps commando unit trained to find, clear and destroy tunnels. The unit is one of the largest in the world focused on underground warfare.
The Yahalom carries a toolkit of specialized gear for such operations, including ground and aerial sensors, ground-penetrating radar, drilling equipment, radios and navigation equipment designed for use underground, thermal equipment and a suite of flying and ground robots for mapping tunnels. Once discovered, the unit has ground-penetrating munitions such as the GBU-28, which can penetrate 100 feet of soil or 20 feet of concrete.
‘A mass assassination factory’: Inside Israel’s calculated bombing of Gaza
(November 30, 2023)
“Nothing happens by accident,” said another source. “When a 3-year-old girl is killed in a home in Gaza, it’s because someone in the army decided it wasn’t a big deal for her to be killed — that it was a price worth paying in order to hit [another] target. We are not Hamas. These are not random rockets. Everything is intentional. We know exactly how much collateral damage there is in every home.”
According to the investigation, another reason for the large number of targets, and the extensive harm to civilian life in Gaza, is the widespread use of a system called “Habsora” (“The Gospel”), which is largely built on artificial intelligence and can “generate” targets almost automatically at a rate that far exceeds what was previously possible. This AI system, as described by a former intelligence officer, essentially facilitates a “mass assassination factory.”
Hadash MK Cassif: ‘They Want to Silence Us’
MK Ofer Cassif (Hadash) is being threatened with expulsion from Israel’s parliament after he signed a petition supporting South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of acts of genocide. Cassif says the impeachment is based on an antidemocratic law that suppresses free speech. “They want me and my friends to shut up,” he says of the far-right government’s persecution of dissenting legislators in an interview to Amy Goodman broadcasted by Democracy Now! “We’ve been against the war from the beginning because we are against bloodshed.”

Even accusing ‚Israel‘ of genocide crosses ‚moral red line‘: French FM

Gallup reports that in 2023 the percentage of US voters who self-identified as independent tied a record-high average of 43% — first set in 2014. Meanwhile, party identification continues to slip.
South Africa‘s genocide case against Israel could be last chance to regain Palestinian trust
Although the Palestinian people believe in the justice of their cause and are fully aware of the injustices and crimes committed against them, they still harbour legitimate fears, given their bitter experiences with the international community and the United Nations Security Council. Many of us have doubts about the seriousness of the international community – especially the US – when it comes to ending, or even mitigating, Israel’s crimes against us.
Although the final judgment of the ICJ will likely take years, we hope the court will make a quick decision on a ceasefire. But this hope dulls when we realise that implementing the ruling depends on the Security Council, where the US can veto any resolution against Israel. This has allowed Israel to long behave with impunity and in disregard of the Geneva Conventions.

Five people were killed whilst trying to get flour that entered in the north of Gaza for hundreds of thousands of people there.
In Gaza, you don’t only see death. You smell it. You breathe it
I first went to check on the mother, who was still buried under the rubble. I called her name and crawled beneath the concrete walls, but there was only silence.
We dug further only to find that she had passed away with her arms wrapped around the tiny bodies of her children.
Some days after returning to our neighbourhood, we noticed that a pack of stray dogs had come and taken shelter in one of the bombed-out houses next to us. Throughout the night, we heard them barking and howling loudly, as though they were fighting over something….
War on Gaza: The fate of global justice hangs on South Africa‘s ICJ case
These are words that any western leader allowing Israel to carry on with mass murder can ill afford to ignore.
The ICJ has agreed to hold a hearing next week to discuss South Africa’s request for an urgent ruling. No hearing at the World Court at the Hague is more pressing. The fate of that endangered species called international justice depends on it.
INHUMANE: Israeli army shoots teens in West Bank, leaves them without help after they find nothing! The IDF didn’t provide medical help and let the 17 year old Osaid Rimawi lie wounded on the ground. He succumbed to his wounds.
Rest in peace.
Genocidal horror in the West Bank, Occupied Palestine: an unarmed 17-year old Palestinian youth gets EXECUTED at point blank range in Beit Rima, Ramallah. Four other youths were injured in this horrific attack. WATCH and SHARE.
South Africa Emerges as Moral Giant on Gaza
The collective West will forever stand disgraced and exposed due to its blind support of Israel’s genocidal slaughter of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since Oct. 7.
What passes for governance in Washington, Berlin, Paris, London et al. has forced us all to bear witness to infanticide, high crimes and war crimes without end these past few months. Said crimes have been committed not in the name of self-defence but rather in the name of ethno-nationalism, settler-colonialism and white supremacy.
‚I recovered a dead boy‘s leg from a dog‘
„A group of dogs are roaming in our neighbourhood and we have to find a solution to push them away,“ the reporter said.
„Every day we see them looking through the rubble and extracting body parts.
„Yesterday I saw two of them fight over the dead boy‘s leg. I had to step in and take it away from them before burying it. It‘s heartbreaking.“
This article by prolific journalist Sam Husseini was published on December 14, 2023. Since then, South Africa has invoked the Genocide Convention, and Malaysia has endorsed that application.

But we have yet to see any action from most of these states…..
Visiting the Irish Consulate in Miami to urge Ireland to support South Africa‘s case against Israel for genocide in the @CIJ_ICJ. Many Irish elected officials have already deemed Israel‘s attacks genocide and PM @LeoVaradkar has condemned Israel‘s violations of international law.
World BEYOND War Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Was interesting listening to Nasrallah today. He basically said international law is BS. We get what we get because we have weapons because the world refused to listen to us when we talked about what was right and wrong. If the ICJ doesn‘t do the right thing, Nasrallah will be right and the ICJ will have no legitimacy.

The Republic of South Africa institutes proceedings against the State of Israel and requests the Court to indicate provisional measures
THE HAGUE, 29 December 2023. South Africa today filed an application instituting proceedings against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, concerning alleged violations by Israel of its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the “Genocide Convention”) in relation to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Application, “acts and omissions by Israel . . . are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent . . . to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a part of the broader Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group” and that “the conduct of Israel — through its State organs, State agents, and other persons and entities acting on its instructions or under its direction, control or influence — in relation to Palestinians in Gaza, is in violation of its obligations under the Genocide Convention”.
BREAKING: South Africa triggers the Genocide convention.

South Africa Is Suspended By U.N. Assembly, 91‐22
(Nov. 13, 1974)
The vote of 91 to 22 was taken to uphold a ruling by the Assembly‘s President, Foreign Minister Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria, suspending South African participation.
The United States unsuccessfully challenged the ruling, Which was also opposed by Britain, a number of Western Europeans and South Americans, and some others. Nineteen countries abstained.
Replying to @antonioguterres: Then grant Palestine UN nationhood status and full membership as it has been asking for years. Do it now.
Pope: May Christmas bring peace to our world and turn sorrow into joy
Following the birth of the Saviour came the slaughter of the innocents, the Pope recalled, and he remembered the innocents, the „little Jesuses“ of today, who are victims „in their mothers’ wombs, in odysseys undertaken in desperation and in search of hope, in the lives of all those little ones whose childhood has been devastated by war.“
We must say „yes“ to peace and „no“ to war the Pope decried, as every war marks „a defeat without victors, an inexcusable folly.“ He also called for a „no“ to weaponry given that with human weakness we can often end up using it for war sooner or later.
Peace is even more difficult, he observed, „when arms production, sales, and trade are on the rise“ and public funds spent on arms can come at the expense of bread for the hungry. He decried „the interests and the profits that move the puppet strings of war.“ And these must be brought to light, „talked about and written about,“ he emphasised, since many have no idea how much of their public funds are being spent on weapons, whereas they should be informed.
Biden and Netanyahu Hammer Out a War Deal: Israel Can Fight as Long as Gaza Gets Aid
Christmas has arrived and the IDF is still fighting on the ground in Gaza. The early forecasts in Washington, and to some extent in Jerusalem, were that the Biden administration would demand that Israel end the high-intensity phase of the ground offensive against Hamas by the close of the year …
Russia sees military coordination with Israel on Syria continuing
(February 26, 2022)
Following the 2015 Russian intervention in the Syrian civil war, Israel set up a „deconfliction mechanism“ with the big power to prevent them clashing inadvertently during Israeli strikes against Iranian deployments and arms transfers in the neighbouring Arab state.
„Our military officials discuss the practical issues of this substantively on a daily basis. This mechanism has proven to be useful and will continue to work,“ the Russian embassy in Israel said in a statement.

L’horreur continue.
