Israel advances new colonial plan that further isolates Jerusalem from Bethlehem

Ir Amim said that the Israeli Municipality of Jerusalem’s Planning and Building Committee approved the plan that envisages the construction of 2,300 units on approximately 20 hectares (around 200 dunums) in the Gilo colony, while expanding the colony southward toward Route 60, which links Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

It added that the plan involves the expropriation of at least 28 privately-owned dunums under the so-called Absentees‘ Property Law, which the occupation authorities utilize to seize Palestinian property.

The project is part of the broader expansion of the Givat Hamatos and Har Homa colonies. It aims to entrench the geographical separation between East Jerusalem and the southern West Bank, isolate the city of Bethlehem from Jerusalem, and impose new colonial realities on the ground.

Lebanese who fled the Israeli invasion visit to see what‘s left

Hamadi says the Basma family, who lived just across a lane from them in a neighborhood called the Nuns‘ Quarter, was killed in an airstrike in March — the parents along with all four of their children. The impact collapsed the house on top of them and two of the children — ages around 8 and 11 — are still under the rubble, she says.

„Now when I look at the neighborhood they are the only ones I can think about,“ she says.

She says in a quiet area full of older people, the family‘s four children brought life to the neighborhood. „They were the ones who made all the noise and activity,“ she says.

Hammadi says she used to drink coffee with the mother, who was in her late 30s. She would talk about waiting for her children to grow up.

„They were wonderful people,“ she says. „Now there‘s no one left from the family.“

How Hakeem Jeffries and J Street Teamed Up for Arming Genocide

When House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries sent out a recent “dear colleague” letter, its second sentence cited “the position articulated by… pro-peace organizations like J Street.” The congressman and J Street were opposing an amendment to block $3.3 billion in military shipments and other aid to Israel.

Jeffries (NY) contended that the measure was “overly broad.” On the same day, using the same phrase “overly broad,” J Street issued a statement declaring that “we support Leader Jeffries’ decision to oppose the amendment.”

Both Jeffries and J Street respectfully noted that many members of Congress had understandable reasons to back the measure. The next day, July 15, a record 103 Democrats voted in favor of blocking weaponry to Israel.

Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinian Villages, Torch Mosques Across West Bank

Israeli settlers carried out attacks on a number of Palestinian villages across the occupied West Bank early Sunday, setting fire to two mosques and other properties.

Sunday’s attacks were spurred by clashes that erupted in the village of Tell, in the northern West Bank, where a crowd of Israeli settlers, some armed, approached the Palestinian village Friday.

Villagers came out to confront them, and a standoff followed, with video appearing to show one of the Palestinians grabbing a settler’s weapon. Palestinian authorities said the settlers provoked the violence, while the Israeli military said both sides fired shots. Four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed.

Former UN oversight chief says ICC prosecutor Karim Khan is ‘victim of massive stitch-up’

(July 20, 2026)

Over the past year, he has submitted four expert‘s opinions commissioned by Khan‘s legal team to the 21-member bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), criticising the manner in which the investigation into misconduct allegations facing the prosecutor was conducted, and the subsequent handling of the process by the bureau.

In his latest submission on 28 June, obtained by Middle East Eye through independent sources, Swanson denounced the 8 June decision by the bureau, which suspended the prosecutor after concluding by a majority that he committed “serious misconduct”.

The bureau’s decision departed from the unanimous conclusion of a panel of three judges it appointed, which in March concluded that the facts presented in the UN investigation „do not establish misconduct or breach of duty under the relevant framework“.
