Lawmakers can revoke a president’s war powers at any time, but Democratic efforts to do so this time around have so far failed. Republican Sen. Spanish parliament rejects proposal for new referendum on NATO membership

The proposal for “holding a referendum on the continuation of Spain’s NATO membership” was voted down by the ruling coalition’s main partner, the Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), as well as opposition parties including the Popular Party (PP), far-right Vox, the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), and Junts for Catalonia.
The junior coalition partner Sumar abstained, while only the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) and the Basque alliance Bildu supported the initiative alongside Podemos.

Zwar fällt die Rhetorik von Spaniens Premier Pedro Sánchez tatsächlich recht scharf aus. Sein »Nein zum Krieg« ließ ihn hierzulande als jemanden mit »Cojones«, also Mut, erscheinen. Doch im Grunde geht es dem spanischen Sozialdemokraten bloß darum, seine Wähler zu beeindrucken. Dass er es nicht allzu ernst meint, stellte seine Partei am Mittwoch klar. An diesem Tag stimmte das spanische Parlament auf Vorschlag von Podemos über ein mögliches Referendum zum Austritt aus der NATO ab. Die Partei von Sánchez stimmte geschlossen dagegen und demonstrierte einmal mehr ihre transatlantische Verlässlichkeit: Wir liefern weiter.

Im Falle eines Zusammenbruchs der „S.P.D.“ würde sich sofort eine sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands gründen.
Zur Zeit steht die im Kaiserreich gegründete und in den letzten sechzehn Jahren Krieg und Euro-Kapitalismus zwölf Jahre an der Regierung befindliche Partei „S.P.D.“ bei 18,5 Prozent. Mancher wird sich nun fragen, wie das ohne die „S.P.D.“ weitergehen soll. Genau das ist ja der Punkt: gar nicht. Das ist ein Grund zur Freude, nicht zur Sorge.
Die „S.P.D.“ ist eine Fantompartei. Ihre einzige Aufgabe ist es die Berliner Republik abzuwickeln, die sie nie gewollt hat und die ihrem Auftrag „Vereinigte Staaten von Europa“ genauso im Weg steht wie alle anderen Demokratien auf dem Kontinent. Diese machen den Deutschen wieder einmal vor, wie einfach es sein kann neue Parteien zu gründen, wenn einen die alten verraten.
Das müssen die Deutschen offensichtlich einfach noch lernen. Denn Demokratie ist wie Autofahren. Wer sie nicht kann, der will sie nicht, der will sie auch nicht lernen, sondern lieber einen Verkehrsunfall.
ARD-DeutschlandTrend: So unzufrieden mit Schwarz-Rot wie noch nie
CDU/CSU und SPD verlieren zum Vormonat jeweils zwei Prozentpunkte. Bei einer Bundestagswahl am kommenden Sonntag käme die Union aktuell auf 26 Prozent, die SPD auf zwölf Prozent. Das ist für die SPD ein Rekordtief; einen schwächeren Wert hatte sie in der Sonntagsfrage im ARD-DeutschlandTrend noch nie. Die AfD könnte zwei Prozentpunkte zulegen und aktuell 25 Prozent Zustimmung erreichen. Grüne und Linke verbessern sich um jeweils einen Punkt auf 14- bzw. zehn Prozent. Andere Parteien blieben bei einem Wahlgang weiter unter der bundesweiten Mandatsschwelle, darunter das BSW und die FDP mit jeweils drei Prozent.

Manchmal sind es Alltagsdetails, die mehr über den Zustand des Landes verraten als jede Statistik. Die Postfiliale, die plötzlich nur noch halbtags geöffnet hat, und in deren langer Warteschlange man kurz vor Schließung um 12 Uhr Mittags mit anhört, wie eine Mitarbeiterin einem IT-Fachmann, der gerade im laufenden Kundenbetrieb eine Panne am Computersystem der Filiale zu beheben versucht, zur Erklärung für Schließung und Warteschlange zutuschelt: „Wir haben drei Dauerkranke“, worauf der IT-Mann mit abgeklärter Miene und leiser Stimme antwortet: „Die haben wir auch.“ Die Gesichter der Wartenden spiegeln eine Mischung aus Frustration und Ergebenheit. Niemand spricht miteinander.

What was also clear from today’s meeting is that we will not let this new crisis overshadow what is happening in Gaza.
We are now 20 months into a conflict triggered by the horrific attacks of Hamas.
Israel has a right to defend itself. And Hamas should immediately release the remaining hostages. But Israel’s use of force in Gaza, the continuing deaths of civilians, and the targeting of civilian infrastructure go beyond self-defence.
Israel’s actions cannot be justified under humanitarian and international law.
At the last Foreign Affairs Council in May, it was clear that a majority of Member States were in favour of opening a review of Israel’s compliance with Article 2 of our Association Agreement.
Article 2 imposes binding obligations on the parties to observe human rights.
This review is now underway and I will present the outcome to the Foreign Ministers on Monday.

Dabei habe er, so die intimen Kenner der Hauptstadtpresse, jedoch ein großes Problem. Dieses Problem trägt den Namen Saskia Esken. Für die sei ja eigentlich kein Platz mehr in der ersten Reihe, aber um des lieben Friedens willen könne man sie ja mit dem Amt der Entwicklungshilfeministerin abspeisen.
