Die FDP-Europaabgeordnete Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann hat den Einsatz von deutschen Bodentruppen zur Friedenssicherung in der Ukraine nicht kategorisch ausgeschlossen. „Die Frage wird sein, wenn es erforderlich ist, die Ukraine zu sichern: Reicht es, das mit Aufrüstung zu machen? Bedarf es anderer Schutztruppen?“, sagte sie im gemeinsamen Morgenmagazin von ARD und ZDF.
Am 28./29. Mai 2026 schlug eine Drohne in ein Wohngebäude in Galați ein, nahe der ukrainischen Grenze. Es gab Verletzte, aber keine Toten. Statt besonnener Aufklärung folgte der übliche Reflex: Sofortige Schuldzuweisung an Russland, Forderungen nach NATO-Artikel 4 oder gar 5 und diplomatische Maßnahmen wie die Schließung des russischen Konsulats in Constanța. Der rumänische Präsident Nicușor Dan hat nun jedoch unmissverständlich erklärt: Russland hatte keine Absicht, Rumänien anzugreifen. Die Drohne war offenbar auf dem Weg zu einem ukrainischen Ziel (Hafen Reni) und wurde durch ukrainische elektronische Kriegsführung abgelenkt.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is planning to invite representative from four Gulf states to the summit in Ankara with the Iran war and the transatlantic rift likely to loom large over the talks, said people familiar with the matter.
The countries — Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — are all members of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, a partnership between NATO and non-members in the broader Middle East.

The proposal for “holding a referendum on the continuation of Spain’s NATO membership” was voted down by the ruling coalition’s main partner, the Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), as well as opposition parties including the Popular Party (PP), far-right Vox, the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), and Junts for Catalonia.
The junior coalition partner Sumar abstained, while only the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) and the Basque alliance Bildu supported the initiative alongside Podemos.
Zwar fällt die Rhetorik von Spaniens Premier Pedro Sánchez tatsächlich recht scharf aus. Sein »Nein zum Krieg« ließ ihn hierzulande als jemanden mit »Cojones«, also Mut, erscheinen. Doch im Grunde geht es dem spanischen Sozialdemokraten bloß darum, seine Wähler zu beeindrucken. Dass er es nicht allzu ernst meint, stellte seine Partei am Mittwoch klar. An diesem Tag stimmte das spanische Parlament auf Vorschlag von Podemos über ein mögliches Referendum zum Austritt aus der NATO ab. Die Partei von Sánchez stimmte geschlossen dagegen und demonstrierte einmal mehr ihre transatlantische Verlässlichkeit: Wir liefern weiter.
Die Falklandinseln bleiben britisch – und daran wird sich nichts ändern. Mit dieser klaren Botschaft reagierte die Regierung der Falklandinseln im Südatlantik auf Berichte, wonach das Pentagon in Erwägung ziehe, die Souveränitätsansprüche Argentiniens über das Gebiet zu unterstützen – und sich damit gegen Grossbritannien zu stellen.
Wie ein brisanter Reuters-Bericht nahelegte, prüft die US-Regierung diese drastische Massnahme offenbar als Druckmittel gegen das Vereinigte Königreich. Dies, weil London die USA im Krieg gegen den Iran nicht unterstützen möchte.
Argentina‘s government on Friday reiterated its willingness to resume bilateral negotiations with the United Kingdom in regards to a sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands, which Argentina knows as the Malvinas and has long claimed sovereignty over.

Reuters reported on Friday, April 24, that a recent internal Pentagon email had outlined options for the U.S. to punish NATO allies that it believes have inadequately supported its military operations in Iran.
According to the report, the Defense Department has suggested that the U.S. reassess its support for European “imperial possessions,” including the Falkland Islands, and consider suspending Spain’s NATO membership.
An email has circulated within the United States Department of Defense laying out potential measures Washington could take against NATO allies it believes have not sufficiently supported its war on Iran, such as Spain and the United Kingdom, according to a US official quoted by the Reuters news agency.
Clark also said that Iran is aware of the strategic value of the Strait of Hormuz in negotiations: “More useful than a nuclear weapon. And they’ve used it,” he said. “And they don’t believe we have an answer for it.”
He added, “They know we don’t want to commit ground troops. They know we don’t want to take losses. We don’t want to get our ships close enough to be hit by their missiles … so this is a real tough military problem. That’s unfortunate because that’s driving their stance in the negotiations.”
President Trump went after the NATO alliance following a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte — comments that came after the Trump administration had recently expressed frustration with members of the alliance.

In einem Gutachten des Wissenschaftlichen Dienstes des Bundestages zur Austrittsfrage heißt es im letzten Satz verräterisch offen:
„Sowohl der Aufenthaltsvertrag als auch das NATO-Truppenstatut können aufgekündigt werden. Nach Nr. 3 der Vereinbarung vom 25. September 1990 zu dem Vertrag über den Aufenthalt ausländischer Streitkräfte in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland kann die Bundesrepublik Deutschland den Aufenthaltsvertrag in Bezug auf eine oder mehrere Vertragsparteien unter Einhaltung einer Frist von zwei Jahren beenden. Nach Art. XIX Abs. 1 und 3 NATO-Truppenstatut kann jede Vertragspartei das Abkommen mit einer Frist von einem Jahr nach Eingang der Notifizierung bei der Regierung der USA kündigen. Obwohl die Möglichkeit einer Kündigung rechtlich besteht, dürfte sie politisch nicht gangbar sein.“
Spanien hat gezeigt, dass man den USA die Nutzung ihrer Basen für völkerrechtswidrige Kriege verwehren kann. Es ist höchste Zeit, dass auch wir in Deutschland eine Bewegung zur Schließung dieser Kriegsenklaven der USA und zum Austritt aus einem Militärpakt, der allein helfen soll, die US-Hegemonie auf unsere Kosten abzusichern, verstärken.
As is often the case in large-scale military operations, logistics are crucial to success. Preparing, staging, and deploying a large, mechanized ground force is a massive and difficult undertaking, and in this case, the favorable points of entry are most likely Turkish territory or the ocean. It seems unlikely the United States could stage an invasion force in Iraq.
To say the prospective operation is “high-risk” might be an understatement. Any concentration of U.S. forces would immediately offer a target for Iran’s remaining precision-guided ballistic missiles.

As Barbara Lee presciently warned her colleagues before she cast her lone dissenting vote in 2001, we have “become the evil we deplore.” But these wars have not been accompanied by fearsome military parades (not yet) or speeches about conquering the world. Instead they have been politically justified by “information warfare” to demonize enemies and fabricate crises, and then waged in a “disguised, quiet, media free” way, to hide their cost in human blood from the American public and the world.
After 16 years of war, about 6 million violent deaths, 6 countries utterly destroyed and many more destabilized, it is urgent that the American public come to terms with the true human cost of our country’s wars and how we have been manipulated and misled into turning a blind eye to them – before they go on even longer, destroy more countries, further undermine the rule of international law and kill millions more of our fellow human beings.

“The war has now entered its fifth year, and its effects occasionally spill across borders. Today, not for the first time, also into Estonia. What is important is that Estonia was not the target of the attack,” emphasised Prime Minister Kristen Michal. “These are large-scale Ukrainian counter-attacks against the aggression of Russia, targeting the ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk. These are the ports through which Russia exports energy resources, providing Putin with funds to wage war, undermine the independence of European and other countries, conduct war against Ukraine, and kill people. The attacks today occurred in three waves, and some of the drones which were used in the attack reached here.

Early this morning at 3.43 a.m., a drone struck the chimney of the Auvere power plant. No people were injured. Based on current information, the drone was not directed at Estonia but deviated here from its intended trajectory. Later, at around 8.30 a.m., another aerial object crossed Lake Peipus into Estonia, triggering the hazard alert system.

Estonia‘s Internal Security Service said a drone entered the country from Russia and slammed into the chimney of a power station, while Latvia‘s armed forces reported a drone crashing onto the country‘s territory without causing any damage.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs said the drone was Ukrainian. Estonian officials said the the stray drones entered from Russian air space „during a Ukrainian counterattack.“

France‘s armed forces chief, General Fabien Mandon, held a video conference call with 35 countries on ways to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, France‘s defence ministry said on Thursday.
The ministry did not disclose which countries had joined the call.
„This initiative, independent of the ongoing military operations in the region, is strictly defensive in nature. Its purpose is to organize the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz once hostilities have ceased,“ it said in a statement.

PARIS — As he stood on the stage to deliver a keynote speech, Gen. Fabien Mandon, France’s military chief of staff, summed up the theme of the Paris Naval Conference in six direct words.
“Today,” he said, “we are preparing for war.”
The tone of the event, which saw leaders from NATO sea services gather in Paris Feb. 2-3, was decidedly direct: that France and its allies need to consider the reality that high-intensity conflict is likely in the near future. And, according to Mandon, France is not yet fully prepared.

The Trump administration has not taken anything „off the table,“ including the use of tactical nuclear weapons, if it decides to take military action against the underground Iranian nuclear facility at Fordow, Fox News reported, citing a White House official.
It followed a report in The Guardian that the president „is not considering using a tactical nuclear weapon on Fordow.“
The Pentagon declined comment to Newsweek, instead referring to a statement by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who said on June 16 that he had directed „the deployment of additional capabilities“ to the Middle East.

“Russia has always strictly adhered and continues to adhere to its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), and we have no plans to deviate from these commitments,” Putin said at a meeting with members of Russia’s Security Council Wednesday.
At the same time, however, should the US or other countries who are signatories of the CTBT begin to conduct nuclear weapons tests, “Russia would also have to take appropriate and proportionate responsive measures,” Putin added.

Donald Trump has repeatedly called the proliferation of nuclear weapons “the n-word,” his way of warning that speaking “nuclear” into existence puts the world on the path of mutually assured destruction.
But 10 months into his second administration, the president is commanding officials to resume nuclear weapons testing, which would end the U.S’s 33-year moratorium and invite a global arms race in a volatile political moment.
One alleged reason why we’re waging a war on Iran is because it has nuclear “capability,” which we need to obliterate for our own safety. Apparently, only the boss countries—the world leaders, the conquerors and colonizers—can be trusted to have nukes. USA! USA! This club also includes Israel, which in fact possesses a large number of nuclear warheads and may actually use one if the war it started comes back at it with too much ferocity. In other words, if Iran’s retaliation is too successful: “…winning against such insatiable enemies could provoke a cornered Israel to turn the war nuclear,” according to the publication Jacobin. “A Trump adviser recently warned that Israel might use a nuclear weapon against Iran.”
