The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are eyeing a 2028 presidential bid in the wake of recent electoral successes across the country.
DSA Co-chair Ashik Siddique told The Hill in a Thursday interview that the organization has more than 100,000 members and 200 chapters across the country. “We want people to be talking proactively about what they would want to see in a presidential campaign,” he said. The organization is looking to see how voters would engage and what would motivate them, he added.

Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority has announced that vessels seeking to cross the Strait of Hormuz will be granted access under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding for 60 days.
In a statement on X, the authority explained that vessels will need to submit their requests to cross at least 48 hours before wanting to depart.
The authority said that during the 60 days, no fees will be charged to vessels.
We should also quietly get our troops out of the bases in the Gulf that can be reached by Iran. This ensures Iranian hardliners can’t strike us to drag us back into the fight.

TEHRAN – A Qatari delegation has reportedly arrived in Tehran amid high-level diplomatic activity linked to ongoing efforts for “message exchange” between the US and Iran, as Tehran shows resistance over signing date.
The visiting delegation is headed by advisor to Qatar’s Foreign Minister. The visit is said to aim at continuing indirect communication and transmission of messages between Tehran and Washington. This is second visit by the Qatari delegation to Tehran within just a few days amid intensified behind-the-scenes diplomacy.
A potential peace agreement between Iran and US could be signed digitally as early as today.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced in a post on his X account on Saturday that he has held a joint meeting with the ambassadors of Russia and China in Tehran to exchange views on the latest developments related to the Pakistani-mediated draft MoU.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war is „closer than ever,“ with finalization expected within the next 24 hours.
As regional powers are discussing whether or not Lebanon is included in a deal between Iran and the US, this isn’t necessarily a moment of peace here. In fact, it is a moment of danger, just like it was on April 8, when there were discussions on whether or not Lebanon was going to be included in the deal.
The Israeli prime minister and his military made it clear that it would not be, and later that afternoon it turned into the deadliest day of the war as more than 350 people were killed.

Araghchi announced that significant progress had been made in efforts to finalize the memorandum of understanding reached between Tehran and Washington in Islamabad.
The Iranian foreign minister urged media outlets to avoid entering into speculation about the content of the understanding with the US before its official release.
Araghchi said all details will be shared with public in due course.
The senior official indicated that the United States is willing to allow Iran to use nuclear in a civilian capacity.
“We’re not bothered at all by the idea of civilian power plants in Iran. What we’re bothered by is the type of infrastructure that would allow them to jump from civilian power generation to nuclear weapons development, and that’s what they’ve had for a very long time,” they said.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said peacekeepers in southern Lebanon continue to observe extensive Israeli military activity, including “high-density armoured movements, large-scale engineering and demolition works and sustained logistical traffic” in areas near the border.
Dujarric said the UN peacekeeping mission, Unifil, also recorded intensive air activity involving fighter aircraft and drones.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Iranian state TV on Friday that both sides were working toward signing an initial agreement declaring an end to the war „on all fronts, including Lebanon.“
Israel has been fighting the Iranian-allied militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon since early March.
Pakistan‘s prime minister says „a final, agreed upon text“ of a U.S.-Iran peace deal has been reached.
Shehbaz Sharif said in a post on X that „Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps.“
„Peace has never been this close as it is now,“ he said.
In an interview on Thursday evening, Esmaeil Baghaei rejected media speculations regarding an agreement and reaffirmed Iran’s resolute and principled stance.
“Textually, the text has almost been finalized in its major parts. The problem is that the contradictory positions of the United States have always caused turbulence and disruption in this process,” Baghaei stated.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic entered the diplomatic process with goodwill and full responsibility, while American officials have repeatedly shifted positions, raised unrealistic new demands, and even carried out military attacks during the negotiations.
There is a positive understanding here in Tehran about this memorandum of understanding.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson, told the media this evening that, yes, there is a proposal; it is now under consideration by the supreme leader of Iran, and also the top leaders of the country, and that it might well end in a kind of signing.
But the news about a location and timing are probably speculations at this moment.
The report said Tehran would hand over nuclear material to a third country, provided it receives guarantees that the stockpile would be returned if talks collapse or if Washington withdraws from any agreement.
Iran also signalled it could gradually reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic in parallel with a lifting of the US maritime blockade, with nuclear issues to be negotiated over a 30-day period.
According to the report, Tehran is prepared to suspend uranium enrichment for a limited time, though for a shorter duration than the 20 years sought by Washington.
