Ein weiteres zentrales Element ist die systematische Spaltung der Gesellschaft. WĂ€hrend der Pandemie wurde die Bevölkerung in âgehorsamâ und âungehorsamâ geteilt â eine Spaltung, die bis heute nachwirkt. Dieselbe Technik wird nun auf die Frage nach Krieg und Frieden angewendet. Wer Verhandlungen fordert oder die offizielle Darstellung hinterfragt, riskiert, als âFeindbegĂŒnstigerâ oder unzuverlĂ€ssig eingestuft zu werden.
Das Ergebnis ist ein permanenter Staatsstreich, der sich vor aller Augen abspielt, doch fĂŒr eine Bevölkerung, die darauf trainiert ist, ihn nicht zu sehen, unsichtbar bleibt. Es gibt eine weit verbreitete Selbstzensur. Viele Menschen schweigen, obwohl sie intern andere Positionen vertreten. Wenzel beschreibt eine Gesellschaft, die gelernt hat, Schweigen mit StabilitĂ€t zu verwechseln und Widerstand als gröĂere Gefahr zu betrachten als die bestehenden ZustĂ€nde.

The image of a rifle in the hands of a singer-songwriter is strange, but not when the one wielding it is Silvio RodrĂguez, 79. The Cuban singer-songwriter has spent his entire life singing, directly or indirectly, about the Revolution, its leaders and its ideals; about the martyrs and the guerrillas. âThere are politics in my songs, but not propaganda,â says the musician, who receives EL PAĂS on Wednesday at the OjalĂĄ studios in Havana. He speaks of the governmentâs âorthodox and closedâ vision in the economic sphere, and of his commitment to a less ârigidâ socialism. âSocialism by the book is very idealistic,â he concludes. He doesnât budge an inch on his opinion of the United States government: âThe world is run by an authoritarian, warmongering, thieving regime. And itâs not Cuba.â
Over 100 global artists back Francesca Albanese amid criticism over Gaza remarks

The letter, organised by the group Artists for Palestine and reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP), confirmed the support of more than 100 cultural figures. Among them are actors Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem, Nobel Prize-winning writer Annie Ernaux, and British musician Annie Lennox.
In the letter, the signatories said: âWe offer our full support to Francesca Albanese, a defender of human rights and therefore also of the Palestinian peopleâs right to exist.â
The statement added: âThere are infinitely more of us in every corner of the Earth who want force no longer to be the law. Who know what the word âlawâ truly means.â

OPERATION RE-COMPLY is the documentary about activists currently imprisoned on remand (held without trial), for taking direct action to dismantle weapons at Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms factory in Bristol, as part of the now-proscribed group Palestine Action. This film tells the story of their families, their fight for justice, and the movement that‘s grown with them.
After 16 months in prison, six of the Filton 24 are finally going on trial, while others may have to wait two years before finally having their day in court.

Artists call for Ceasefire Now
We come together as artists and advocates, but most importantly as human beings witnessing the devastating loss of lives and unfolding horrors in Israel and Palestine.
We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost. More than 63,000 people have been killed over the last 22 months, and over 159,000 injured* â numbers that any person of conscience knows are catastrophic. We believe all life is sacred, no matter faith or ethnicity and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay â an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages. Half of Gazaâs two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them.
