Bundeswehreinsatz im Roten Meer verlängert
Der Bundestag hat am Donnerstag, 16. Oktober 2025, den Bundeswehreinsatz im Roten Meer um ein Jahr verlängert. In namentlicher Abstimmung wurde der Antrag auf Empfehlung des Auswärtigen Ausschusses mit 435 Ja-Stimmen bei 69 Gegenstimmen und 77 Enthaltungen angenommen.

Former UN oversight chief says ICC prosecutor Karim Khan is ‘victim of massive stitch-up’

Over the past year, he has submitted four expert‘s opinions commissioned by Khan‘s legal team to the 21-member bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), criticising the manner in which the investigation into misconduct allegations facing the prosecutor was conducted, and the subsequent handling of the process by the bureau.
In his latest submission on 28 June, obtained by Middle East Eye through independent sources, Swanson denounced the 8 June decision by the bureau, which suspended the prosecutor after concluding by a majority that he committed “serious misconduct”.
The bureau’s decision departed from the unanimous conclusion of a panel of three judges it appointed, which in March concluded that the facts presented in the UN investigation „do not establish misconduct or breach of duty under the relevant framework“.

Member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) are set to gather at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday for a controversial vote which could see the court‘s chief prosecutor Karim Khan dismissed from his job over alleged misconduct claims.
It will be the first time in the ICC‘s 24-year history that member states have been asked to decide whether to remove a sitting chief prosecutor from office.
The Assembly of States Parties (ASP), the court’s governing body that is made up of its 125 members, will vote by secret ballot requiring an absolute majority of 63 states to remove the prosecutor.
Khan’s lawyers said they have been denied accreditation to attend Friday’s session and to mount a defence prior to the vote. They added that the president of the ASP “has closed every formal channel” through which they can address the assembly, and has asked all state parties not to meet with the legal team.

56. On 24 January 2024, at around 08:30, a family was preparing to evacuate from their ground-floor apartment in a seven-storey building at al-Amal, west of Khan Younis, following receipt of an evacuation order by the Israeli security forces. The father noticed quadcopters hovering over the area and presence of the Israeli security forces about 100 meters east of their house, instructing people to head west to Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis. His 15-year-old son stepped out of the house holding a white cloth, when the father, who was inside the house, heard a gunshot from the eastern side where Israeli soldiers were located. The boy was hit in the left foot, and he fell on his face. As he attempted to stand, two more gunshots were fired within seconds from the same direction. One shot hit the boy on his back and another on the left side of his neck. Seeing this, the boy’s 20-year-old brother ran towards him and was also shot on the left side of his chest. He collapsed on top of his younger brother.
57. The victims’ mother waved her hands at the south side window to signal for an ambulance when the Israeli security forces fired bullets which hit her too, slightly injuring her in her left hand. The father tried several times to pull away the bodies of both his sons but, every time he tried to advance towards them, the Israeli security forces fired in his direction. He then left the neighbourhood with the rest of his family. In early March 2024, he learned that two days after the incident, an ambulance arrived to retrieve his sons’ bodies. To date, the family is unaware where the bodies are buried.
58. The Commission assesses that the 15-year-old boy holding the white flag was shot by Israeli soldiers using a DAN.338 calibre bolt-action sniper rifle, commonly used by Israeli snipers, from a position located around 200 metres away. Given that sniper rifles used by the Israeli security forces normally have a precision accuracy range of more than 1,200 metres, the Israeli shooter should have been able to see that the target was a child and that he was holding a white flag. The additional two shots fired after the boy was hit were likely meant to ensure that he was dead. The additional killing of the boy’s brother points to a deliberate effort by the Israeli security forces to target the boy as well as any person that came to retrieve him. The Commission could not find any indication of a threat towards members of the Israeli security forces from the family’s location. The Commission finds that the Israeli security forces’ 98th Division were operating in the area at the time of the incident.

59. On 12 April 2024 at 13:00, a 10 day-old-baby boy was shot by a quadcopter while being breastfed by his mother inside their tent in Nuseirat camp. The mother was alone in the tent, breastfeeding her baby, when a single bullet from a quadcopter hit the baby in the head and exited through the back of his head, hitting the pillow behind her. The baby survived but sustained brain injuries and now suffers from seizures.
60. The Commission viewed and analysed images of the bullet that hit the baby. The Commission concluded on reasonable grounds that the bullet was fired from a sniper rifle mounted on a quadcopter. Considering that the shooting occurred in broad daylight, the
Commission concludes that the quadcopter controller would have been able to see inside the tent and assesses that the target was a mother and a baby.

Israel continues to commit genocide, atrocity crimes by deliberately targeting Palestinian children, UN independent commission finds
Last year, the commission concluded that “Israel had committed genocide against the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip, found that the intense scale and systematic nature of the Israeli military operations have continued, resulting in unprecedented death, injury and trauma of Palestinian children.”
Here are some findings in the commission’s latest report:
– Israel has killed 20,000 children and injured 44,000 more since 7 October 2023
– Severe physical and mental injuries, mass trauma, orphanhood, separation, disability, repeated displacements, starvation and the collapse of education and healthcare have erased childhood and will continue to affect children in Gaza throughout their lives
– Palestinian children have been arrested and subjected to torture and other severe forms of mistreatment in Israeli prisons and detention facilities, with no information on their whereabouts
– Israeli security forces have used sexual violence against children as part of the collective shaming and oppression, entrenched within a prolonged, ethnic, gendered and intergenerational pattern of occupation and hostilities

Opfer des Lauschangriffs waren arabische und südamerikanische Länder, aber auch NATO-Partner. Sie vertrauten der Krypto-Technik eines schweizerischen Herstellers – und wurden betrogen. Welche politischen Folgen hatte das jahrelange Mitlesen geheimer Nachrichten?
Politische Handlungen durch Rubikon
Die „Rubikon“-Papiere belegen erstmals, dass BND und CIA zum Beispiel frühzeitig über den Sturz des chilenischen Präsidenten Allende 1973 und die schweren Menschenrechtsverletzungen durch die argentinische Militärjunta informiert waren. Politische Folgen, etwa in Form von Protesten der Bundesregierung, hatte das nicht.
Auch im Falklandkrieg kamen die für den Sieg der Briten notwendigen Informationen aus der Operation „Rubikon“: Der BND konnte den militärischen Funkverkehr der Argentinier entschlüsseln. Das britische Militär war so über die Bewegungen der argentinischen Streitkräfte informiert. Einer der klar belegbaren Fälle, in denen „Rubikon“ konkrete – und blutige – Konsequenzen hatte.
Kühn und skandalträchtig
Einer der größten Abnehmer für die manipulierten schweizerischen Verschlüsselungsgeräte war der Iran. Jahrzehntelang waren Deutsche und Amerikaner deshalb bestens über die geheimen Regierungskommunikationen des Ajatollah-Regimes informiert und nutzten diese Kenntnisse zum Beispiel in der Geiselaffäre, um die US-Botschaftsangehörigen freizubekommen.
Geheimdienstexperte Prof. Richard Aldrich wertete die dem ZDF exklusiv vorliegenden geheimen Akten aus. Sein Fazit: „Die Operation Rubikon war eine der kühnsten und auch skandalträchtigsten Operationen, denn über hundert Staaten zahlten Milliarden Dollar dafür, dass ihnen ihre Staatsgeheimnisse gestohlen wurden.“

Die CIA und der BND spionierten mit manipulierten Chiffriergeräten der Schweizer Firma Crypto AG jahrzehntelang mehr als 100 Staaten aus, darunter auch befreundete Länder. Dies belegen Recherchen von SRF Rundschau, ZDF und Washington Post.
m Zentrum steht ein Aktenordner mit explosivem Inhalt: 280 Seiten, bisher unbekannte Papiere der Geheimdienste CIA und BND. Sie belegen eine weltweite Geheimdienstoperation. Die geleakten Papiere werfen ein höchst fragwürdiges Licht auf die Schweiz und auf das Zuger Unternehmen Crypto AG, eine Firma für Verschlüsselungstechnik.
Über manipulierte Chiffriermaschinen der ehemaligen Verschlüsselungsfirma horchten die Geheimdienste CIA und BND jahrzehntelang über hundert Staaten ab. Im Nahen Osten, in Asien, in Südamerika und auch in Europa wurde die geheime Kommunikation befreundeter und feindlicher Staaten abgefangen und ausgewertet. Alle abgehörten Länder hatten ihre Crypto-Chiffriermaschinen im guten Glauben in der neutralen Schweiz gekauft.
Welche Folgen hatte die Überwachungsoperation auf die internationale Politik der Nachkriegszeit? Wie gingen die Geheimdienstleute der CIA und des BND vor? Sowohl Verkehrsdaten als auch Inhalte von massenhaft abgegriffener Kommunikation soll der Geheimdienst bis zu einem halben Jahr speichern und durchforsten dürfen. Am deutschen Internetknoten DE-CIX in Frankfurt/Main dürfte der BND neben dem eingehenden nun auch den ausgehenden Datenverkehr überwachen.
Das geplante neue Gesetz soll aber auch ganz andere Türen öffnen, die den Geheimen aktives Hacken und Sabotage erlauben würden. Der Geheimdienst dürfte dann in Netzwerke eindringen und sich an aktiven Hacking-Angriffen beteiligen, wenn nach BND-Anfrage nicht freiwillig kooperiert wird. Um Staatstrojaner auf informationstechnischen Systemen aufzubringen, sollen BND-Leute laut FAZ auch heimlich in Wohnungen einbrechen dürfen.

Mit weiteren Behörden tauscht der deutsche Inlandsgeheimdienst Informationen zu „nicht-islamistischem Terrorismus“ sowie „Rechts- und Linksextremismus“. Wegen des „Staatswohls“ hielt die Bundesregierung diese Details bislang geheim.
