The fate of General Vahidi, who disappeared before the February 28 operation that killed Ayatollah Khamenei and many senior Revolutionary Guard officials, including former commander Mohammad Pakpour, had long been a subject of debate. Vahidi, attending Khamenei‘s funeral ceremony held ahead of the 40-day national mourning period starting this weekend, was captured by Iranian state media cameras mourning at the side of the coffin.
Oil prices rose, and stock markets dropped in shaky trading worldwide Wednesday after President Donald Trump raised doubts about the temporary truce in the war with Iran.
The S&P 500 fell as much as 1.1% after Trump said the agreement to pause fighting was âover,â but the index then trimmed its loss to 0.3% after Trump said the most recent exchange of fire with the Islamic Republic did not herald a return to full-scale war. Theyâre his latest mixed messages on what will happen with the war, which threatens to worsen inflation for the world.
This comes as Trump meets world leaders at the NATO summit in Turkey, where the Strait of Hormuz is expected to be a key topic.

The fear that Israel is actually quite close to such a postponement cuts across much of Israeli society. Iâve heard it expressed by secular liberals, military veterans, former intelligence officials, legal scholars, journalists, centrist politicians, and even some conservatives who once supported Netanyahu enthusiastically. What unites them is the growing belief that Netanyahu now considers remaining in power to be an existential necessity â and that his radical base will back him no matter what outrage he attempts.

âThis Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!â he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Oktober 2001 ausgerufenen âkollektiven Verteidigungsfallâ aufrechterhalten will.
Eine Option: Noch mehr Eroberungen islamischer Staaten, wegen dem âIslamischen Staatâ.

The video of Steven Sotloff‘s apparent murder appears to have been found by a private US intelligence firm before it could be released by the Islamic State.
News of Mr Sotloff‘s death was broken by the SITE Intelligence group, a private company that monitors jihadist activity and has close ties to the American intelligence community.
The group‘s analysts found the video on what a spokesman described as „a file-sharing site“ and send it out to its subscriber list. SITE‘s subscribers include government officials, journalists and academics involved in analysing terrorism.

The al-Qaeda video aired on Sept. 7 attracted international attention as the first new video message from the group‘s leader in three years. In it, a dark-bearded bin Laden urges Americans to convert to Islam and predicts failure for the Bush administration in Iraq and Afghanistan. The video was aired on hundreds of Western news Web sites nearly a full day before its release by a distribution company linked to al-Qaeda.
Computer logs and records reviewed by The Washington Post support SITE‘s claim that it snatched the video from al-Qaeda days beforehand. Katz requested that the precise date and details of the acquisition not be made public, saying such disclosures could reveal sensitive details about the company‘s methods.

Israeli leaders believed that Hamas was more interested in governing than fighting. By the time the agents discovered the ledgers in 2018, the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was encouraging the government of Qatar to deliver millions of dollars to the Gaza Strip. He gambled that the money would buy stability and peace.
Mr. Levy recalled briefing Mr. Netanyahu personally in 2015 about the Hamas portfolio.

Maryam Younnes was only five years old when she fled her home in Dibil in southern Lebanon, leaving behind her grandmother and cousins, unable to legally see or speak to them again.
Maryamâs father, Elias, was a commander in the South Lebanon Army (SLA). He defended the countryâs sovereignty against the Palestinian Liberation Organization, which used the territory to launch attacks against Israel and brutalize local populations.
âWe were in no manâs land. No one helped us. No one looked after us, just like whatâs going on right now.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s request to delay testifying in his criminal trial was accepted by judges on Sunday due to „security and political“ reasons related to „the dramatic events that have occurred in the State of Israel and throughout the Middle East in recent times,“ according to a letter sent to judges.

âThe war has now entered its fifth year, and its effects occasionally spill across borders. Today, not for the first time, also into Estonia. What is important is that Estonia was not the target of the attack,â emphasised Prime Minister Kristen Michal. âThese are large-scale Ukrainian counter-attacks against the aggression of Russia, targeting the ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk. These are the ports through which Russia exports energy resources, providing Putin with funds to wage war, undermine the independence of European and other countries, conduct war against Ukraine, and kill people. The attacks today occurred in three waves, and some of the drones which were used in the attack reached here.

Early this morning at 3.43 a.m., a drone struck the chimney of the Auvere power plant. No people were injured. Based on current information, the drone was not directed at Estonia but deviated here from its intended trajectory. Later, at around 8.30 a.m., another aerial object crossed Lake Peipus into Estonia, triggering the hazard alert system.

Estonia‘s Internal Security Service said a drone entered the country from Russia and slammed into the chimney of a power station, while Latvia‘s armed forces reported a drone crashing onto the country‘s territory without causing any damage.
Latvian President Edgars RinkÄviÄs said the drone was Ukrainian. Estonian officials said the the stray drones entered from Russian air space „during a Ukrainian counterattack.“
JERUSALEMâThe Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel was the greatest security failure of Benjamin Netanyahuâs career. Less than three years later, the Israeli prime minister is pursuing what may become his defining strategic achievement: toppling the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The missile was intercepted on Monday over the Sahinbey district of Gaziantep in southern Turkiye, the ministry said in a statement. No casualties or damage were reported.

The US and 40 partner countries gathered in Prague last week for a symposium to advance the implementation of reimposed United Nations Security Council resolutions (UNSCRs) against Iran, the US State Department confirmed on Tuesday. (…)

There is one additional fact related to the Epstein Files release that has largely gone unnoticed. In early December, shortly before the full set of Epstein Files was supposed to be made public, Ghislaine Maxwell filed a motion to vacate her conviction. This is a routine motion often filed by federal prisoners after their direct appeals have been rejected.

The dilemma facing the system is now complex. On the one hand, allowing a new judge to render a verdict based solely on transcripts and submitted evidence is problematic, as a criminal verdict should be based on the judge‘s direct impression of the witnesses and the accused, and on their credibility.
On the other hand, having the witnesses, or some of them, re-tested by another judge is also problematic and would mean the case would drag on for years. As mentioned, this would also delay Lieber‘s required testimony in the main case against Sharan and Ganor.
