Israel bans Red Cross from visiting Palestinians held without trial

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has officially barred the International Committee of the Red Cross from visiting Palestinians held under Israel’s so-called “unlawful combatants” law, a legal category that does not exist under international law and allows indefinite detention without charge, trial or oversight.

Katz claimed in a decree that allowing ICRC access would “seriously harm national security”, effectively ensuring that Palestinian detainees held under this exceptional measure remain entirely hidden from international monitoring.

Frankfurt verbietet Demo gegen Gaza-Krieg

Israel threatens to ban major aid organizations as starvation deepens: Oxfam and over 100 other organizations call for an end to Israel’s weaponization of aid

Despite claims by Israeli authorities that there is no limit on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, most major international NGOs have been unable to deliver a single truck of lifesaving supplies since 2 March.

Instead of clearing the growing backlog of goods, Israeli authorities have rejected requests from dozens of NGOs to bring in lifesaving goods, citing that these organizations are “not authorized to deliver aid.” In July alone, over 60 requests were denied under this justification.

International aid groups say new Israeli rules stop them delivering supplies to Gaza

New Israeli legislation regulating foreign aid groups has been increasingly used to deny their requests to bring supplies into Gaza, according to a joint letter signed by more than 100 groups published Thursday.

„Israeli authorities have rejected requests from dozens of NGOs to bring in lifesaving goods, citing that these organisations are ‚not authorised to deliver aid‘,“ the joint statement reads.

UK: Protesters prepare to defy Palestine Action ban in shows of support

(July 11, 2025)

On Saturday, groups of activists will gather for a series of protests coordinated by the campaign group Defend Our Juries (DOJ) in London, Manchester and Cardiff. An independently organised protest will also be staged in Derry in Northern Ireland.

Protesters plan to hold signs reading: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.“

This follows the arrest of 29 people under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act, including an 83-year-old retired priest and an emergency worker, for holding the same signs in Parliament Square last weekend.

Nour Haidar: Home Secretary vs Palestine Action: The Constitutional Implications of Widening the Legal Understanding of Terrorism

This post does not focus on assessing the substantive grounds which can be relied on to challenge the lawfulness of Yvette Cooper’s decision-making in seeking to proscribe Palestine Action. Instead, it focuses on the constitutional implications of the decision to proscribe Palestine Action. In short, I argue that the Home Secretary’s decision collapses the distinction between violence against the person and violence against property. This represents a seismic break with constitutional norms regarding how the state regulates the fundamental rights to freedom of thought and conscience, freedom of expression, and the right to freedom of assembly. The decision is a chilling example of executive power being wielded to coercively constrain personal and collective liberties in the UK.

Waters defended the group’s tactics as peaceful and justified, saying: “They are a nonviolent protest organisation protesting the presence in the UK of Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms manufacturing organisation… I support Palestine Action and I always will because that is the right thing to do.”

Referencing journalist George Monbiot’s call for public defiance, Waters echoed the rallying cry: “This is the ‘I am Spartacus’ moment… Good on everybody who is standing up everywhere and saying, ‘I am Spartacus.’ We will not be rolled over by this appalling Labour government in the United Kingdom.”

The musician concluded with a stark message: “Palestine Action is not a terrorist organisation. They are lying… that’s all I have to say.“

Palestine Action spraying paint is not terrorism. As ministers abuse their powers, I feel a duty to speak out

(June 30, 2025)

In Gaza, the world is watching the most heinous acts of violence that I have witnessed in my lifetime. It is as if the skin has been ripped off the face of humanity to reveal terrifying depths of sadism and depravity.

I am intensely aware of this thought: I do not want to find myself at the end of my life looking back at this time regretting that I could have done something and didn’t – that I was too frightened to speak out, or to act. Palestine Action and its supporters will have no such regrets. Our current British government, however, may well.

Palestine Action is not a terrorist organisation

(June 28, 2025)

There is an overwhelming consensus that terrorism involves the use or threat of violence against civilians for a political purpose.

So says JUSTICE, the UK section of the International Commission of Jurists.

Jewish Voice for Labour sees no legitimate grounds for the UK government declaring Palestine Action a ‘terrorist organisation’. There is no shred of evidence that Palestine Action has ever, or has ever intended to, endanger the lives of British civilians, or indeed anyone. But for political and deeply flawed reasons, the Government has decided to attempt to apply the law on charges of “serious damage to property…to advance a political cause”.

It seems that Palestine Action stands convicted, in the eyes of the government, of conspiring to save Palestinian lives.

UK government designates Palestine Action a ‚terrorist organisation‘

British MPs have voted 385 to 26 in favour of legislation to designate Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation.

The designation makes it a criminal act to support the group and places it in the same category as violent groups such as the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

The order is expected to come into effect later this week. Once it does, supporting Palestine Action will become a criminal offence, with membership or expressing support for the direct action group punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Legal action is being taken to temporarily block the order, with a hearing scheduled for Friday at London‘s High Court.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Arab Leadership in Israel Appeals to Supreme Court Against Law Allowing Education Ministry to Dismiss Teachers and Cut Funding to Palestinian Schools Over Alleged “Support of Terrorism”

(December 17, 2024)

In the petition, Adalah Attorney Salam Irsheid argued that the law is clearly racist in intent, especially given the widespread persecution and criminalization of hundreds of Palestinian citizens by Israeli authorities and other entities since the outbreak of the war 7 October 2023, for merely expressing entirely lawful opinions. The law’s deliberate vagueness, and the fact that it only addresses “incitement to terrorism”—which is used almost exclusively to target Palestinians—while excluding incitement to violence or racism, highlights its discriminatory purpose. By granting broad, unchecked powers to political and administrative authorities, the law enables punitive actions to be taken against Palestinian educators for expressing views that fall outside the mainstream consensus, thereby severely undermining their basic right to freedom of expression. Adalah further argued that the law breaches the principle of the separation of powers, as it grants the Education Ministry the authority to infringe on teachers’ rights to freedom of expression and occupation, effectively requiring a determination of whether they have committed a criminal offense, even if no charges have been filed against them.

Petition to Supreme Court; Far-Right Govt Consider Bill Banning Left and Arab Campus Groups

Hadash MKs opposed the proposed legislation, calling it “dime-store fascist populism and McCarthyism.” According to Hadash MK Aida Touma-Sliman, “The Knesset is advancing two bills targeting critical students and professors, aimed primarily at Palestinian and leftist voices in academia. These bills seek to silence any remaining voices resisting the government’s policies of occupation and war. This marks another step in the fascist agenda to suppress any real opposition to the extreme right. Heads of universities, professors, and students recognize the danger of such legislation and are voicing their opposition.

On past week, the Knesset plenum, in a preliminary reading, passed a proposed law that would amend the Students Rights Law, allowing most Israeli higher education institutions to implement gender separation. MK Son Har-Melech proposed the law, which 55 members of the Knesset (MKs) supported and 45 MKs opposed.

This grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, is receiving the Peace Prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.

In response to the atomic bomb attacks of August 1945, a global movement arose whose members have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of using nuclear weapons. Gradually, a powerful international norm developed, stigmatising the use of nuclear weapons as morally unacceptable. This norm has become known as “the nuclear taboo”.

The testimony of the Hibakusha – the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – is unique in this larger context.

Racist Ben Gvir Warns Hadash Leader ‘Next in Line’ to Be Expelled from Knesset

The far-right leader’s message comes hours after members of the Knesset House Committee overwhelmingly supported a motion to expel Hadash-Ta’al party lawmaker Ofer Cassif, voting 14-2 to advance his impeachment to the Knesset plenum following two days of contentious debate.
