Exclusive: ICC bureau changes rules to lower threshold for Khan‘s removal

Previously, the procedure was expected to consist of a two-stage vote in which members would first vote on whether misconduct had occurred and its gravity, with a second vote on removal triggered only if they found „serious misconduct.“

The ASP, which is made up of diplomatic representatives from the international court‘s 125 member states, is due to vote on Khan‘s future at the United Nations‘ headquarters in New York City on 24 July.

It comes after the bureau, a body of diplomats from 21 member states, determined by a two-thirds majority last month that Khan had committed „serious misconduct.“

This was despite a judicial panel, appointed by the bureau to review the findings of a United Nations investigation into complaints against Khan, concluding that the evidence against him was insufficient to establish any level of misconduct.

Gavin Newsom gambles on Joe Biden in hunt for 2028 presidential nomination— but still has to clear the Kamala Harris hurdle

(June 23, 2026)

While other Democrats are distancing themselves from Biden’s failed reelection bid and the political wreckage that followed, California’s governor is leaning in. Newsom has praised Biden’s presidency, defended his record, and positioned himself as one of the party’s most visible Biden loyalists.

He has called the Biden presidency a “masterclass of policymaking.” He has said he will never turn his back on Biden. And last week, he went further.

He hosted Hunter Biden on his podcast.

That matters.

Mamdani challenges Democratic leaders ahead of primary elections: ‘The Democratic Party must change’

(june 19, 2026)

Not long ago, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was demonized by leaders of both political parties. On Thursday night, the 34-year-old democratic socialist was celebrated as a political force, the face of the region’s sports renaissance, even the leader of “Mamdanistan.”

In a rally with Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., that drew thousands to a Brooklyn theater, the emboldened mayor delivered a fiery message to Democratic leaders in Washington — and even those considering 2028 presidential bids — as he worked to elevate a slate of likeminded candidates in Tuesday’s New York primaries.

“Fascism Ain’t Pretty” Goes National

(November 11, 2025)

Washington, D.C. was the proving ground for our campaign, antagonizing Stephen Miller.

When we covered the Capital with Stephen Miller’s face and “Fascism Ain’t Pretty”—on walls, sidewalks, and projected it onto buildings—we heard from thousands of you. The message was overwhelming: WE WANT THIS IN OUR CITY.

We heard you. And we’re acting on it.

This week, Portland, Oregon, and Philadelphia are first up on our list for expanding this campaign. If you’re in either city, take a stroll and see if you can spot Miller’s face. Then snap a pic, put it on your socials, and tag us!

MK Odeh: Will do Everything to Prevent Smotrich-Netanyahu-Ben Gvir from Continuing in Power

Smotrich’s comments drew immediate condemnation from the opposition, with Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas asserting that “human life holds no value in his eyes”. MK Ayman Odeh, the chairman of Hadash-Ta’al parliamentary faction, also slammed Smotrich, declaring on X that “what the racists and Kahanists say is not important, what matters is what we will do.” “And we, the Arab citizens, together with the democratic Jews, will do everything, simply everything, to prevent Smotrich-Netanyahu-Ben Gvir from continuing to another term,” Odeh wrote.

Smotrich: Including Arab party in government ‘a thousand times’ worse than Oct. 7 failures

(May 5, 2026)

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich sparked an uproar on Tuesday when he asserted that former prime minister Naftali Bennett’s decision to include the Islamist Ra’am party in his 2021-2022 government was far worse than the governmental failures tied to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, onslaught — the worst attack on civilians in Israeli history, which saw some 1,200 people murdered and 251 taken hostage, and which led to a multi-front war in which some 900 others have been killed.

Smotrich’s comments drew immediate condemnation from the opposition, with Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas asserting that “human life holds no value in [his] eyes” and Bennett accusing the finance minister, as well as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of “trying with all their might to make people forget the atrocities that occurred on their watch.”

Anas Sarwar calls for Keir Starmer to quit as Prime Minister

The Scottish Labour leader made the intervention in a press conference in Glasgow this afternoon as he attacked the „failures“ in Downing Street in the wake of revelations surrounding Peter Mandelson‘s links to Jeffrey Epstein and fears over damage the scandal may do to his party‘s chances at the Holyrood elections in May.

He told reporters his first priority is to Scotland and that he did not want to “sacrifice” the country to a third decade of an SNP government.

Inside Scottish Labour as MPs fear Mandelson impact on Holyrood vote

(February 6, 2026)

Now attention is turning to the ramifications of the scandal in Scotland ahead of the Holyrood election in May.

Anas Sarwar could prove another casualty of the spectacular fallout from the collapse of Lord Mandelson’s reputation.

Lord Mandelson’s continued friendship with Epstein has been public knowledge since the Financial Times reported in 2023 that the peer stayed at the convicted paedophile’s home in Manhattan in 2009, while he was in prison for child sex offences.

What the Joint List’s revival signifies for Palestinian politics in Israel

(January 28, 2026)

This is a historic event in a volatile political moment. Even before the publication of polls gauging the Joint List’s electoral strength — predicting that it could secure 15-16 of the Knesset’s 120 seats, making it the third largest force in Israeli politics — the popular demand for unity suggests the possibility for unprecedented voter turnout in Arab society.

Israeli news outlets described the renewal of the Joint List as “drama in the political system,” and rightly so. Such a scenario would alter the balance between opposing blocs and force Zionist parties across the spectrum — from Yair Golan’s center-left Democrats to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud — to recalibrate their strategies.

Democrats want to find out why their voters stayed home in 2024 — and how to get them to show up this year

“We didn’t lose to Donald Trump. We lost to the couch,” DNC Deputy Executive Director Libby Schneider said in an interview. “We saw our voters, many of our important voters, stay home. Obviously, that is a trend that cannot continue.”

(…)

“If we want to keep earning back the trust and support of voters, we have to listen to them,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement. “The Democratic Party is done with waiting until the last minute to engage voters — these conversations need to happen early and often.”

In a world first, over 250 media black out their front pages and broadcasting programmes to protest the killing of journalists in Gaza

In an unprecedented international operation organised by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the global campaigning movement Avaaz, more than 250 news outlets from over 70 countries will simultaneously black out their front pages and website homepages, and interrupt their broadcasting to condemn the murder of journalists by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip. Together, these newsrooms demand an end to impunity for Israeli crimes against Gaza’s reporters, the emergency evacuation of reporters seeking to leave the Strip and that foreign press be granted independent access to the territory.

Over 210 journalists killed in Gaza: RSF and Avaaz call on media worldwide to stage major operation on 1 September

On 25 August, one of these strikes targeted a building in the al-Nasser medical complex in central Gaza, a known workplace for reporters, killing five journalists and staff members of local and international media outlets such as Reuters and the Associated Press. Two weeks earlier, on the night of 10 August, an Israeli strike killed six reporters, including Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif, who was the intended target.

According to RSF data, more than 210 journalists have been killed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip in nearly 23 months of Israeli military operations in the Palestinian territory. At least 56 of them were intentionally targeted by the Israeli army or killed while doing their job. This ongoing massacre of Palestinian journalists requires a large-scale operation highly visible to the general public. With this unprecedented mobilisation planned for 1 September, RSF renews its call for urgent protection for Palestinian media professionals in the Gaza Strip, a demand endorsed by over 200 media outlets and organisations in June. The NGO also calls for foreign press to be granted independent access to the Strip, which Israeli authorities have so far denied.
