DSA’s choice in a high-profile California congressional race hopes to build internationalism — understood as “solidarity between working people across borders” — into her service in the U.S. House, should she be elected in November.
Los Angeles DSA and DSA National have endorsed Angela Gonzales-Torres in her race to represent California’s 34th congressional district. The run-off election against embattled incumbent U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez will be one of the highest-profile DSA challenges on the ballot for the Nov. 3 general election. Due to California’s jungle primary system, both candidates in the general will appear on the Democratic ballot line.
The Joint List‘s Platform: There is another way
The Joint List strives to change the existing political, social and economic reality, to fight the spread of fascism under the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, and to act to halt all Israeli wars – chief among them the war of annihilation against the Palestinian people. The list is based in principle on the political platform of the first Joint List (2015), and works to realise this vision through representing the national and civil issues of Arab society with head held high, without trading one for the other.
This vision rests on the essential connection between the national and democratic struggle and action for a safe life with dignity. Hence, we place the individual and their dignity at the centre of politics: we link the national and civil rights of the Arab public to social justice and peace, defend the security of our families and our homes, our children‘s education, our health, and jobs and a life of dignity, and act to translate our joint power into tangible change in people‘s lives. This is our platform, and these are the issues we will place at the top of our priorities:

Socialists Can Never Win — Until We Do
We all know the narrative by now: socialists are too radical, fringe, and unpopular to win any kind of lasting power. “Enjoy your time in the sun, lefties, because any moment now the hammer of reasonable, moderate thought will come crashing down and send you back to the depths of political obscurity with your collective tail tucked between your legs.”
Variations of this line are repeated constantly across the country by national media and prominent members of both parties. They repeat it like a mantra, both because they need it to be true and because they would rather eat glass than honestly engage with our ideas. Unfortunately for them, the recent streak of socialist victories has proven there is immense hunger for a working-class movement in this country. In fact, DSA may be more popular among Democratic voters than the Democratic Party itself. One out of three Democratic voters now identify as democratic socialists, and even among those who don’t, two-thirds would be comfortable voting for one.
Hadash, Ta’al and Balad Re-establish the Joint List Ahead of Israel’s Election
The three parties last ran together in 2021, along with the Islamist Ra’am party headed by Mansour Abbas. But Ra’am decided to break off months before the election and run independently. Ra’am won four seats and joined the Naftali Bennett-Yair Lapid coalition.

Peace Activists to „Welcome Back“ Congress As They Return from Recess as the War on Iran Continues
WASHINGTON, D.C.— CODEPINK and the DC Against Trump Agenda Coalition announced plans to “welcome back” members of Congress on April 14, coinciding with Congress‘s return from recess, to demand an immediate end to the U.S. war on Iran.
The demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Independence Avenue SE and New Jersey Avenue SE in Washington, D.C. After the “welcome” reception, participants will flood the halls of Congress with the demands for peace. Activists will have banners that read, “No War on Iran”, “Let Cuba Live”, “Stop Arming Israel”, “Fund Communities Not War” with Palestinian, Cuban, and Lebanese flags.
“Congress has been in recess while the war rages on. It’s shameful but unsurprising,” explained CODEPINK’s Olivia DiNucci.
Congress to vote on Trump’s war powers in aftermath of Iran strikes
“It’s a slap in the face of the United States Congress. The president has launched an illegal war when there is no imminent threat. He did not consult with Congress or allow for a debate in Congress, which even George W. Bush did,” Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California told CNN on Saturday morning.

Polls: Joint List Wins 14-15 Seats
Polls show the Joint List gaining strength and win 14 to 15 seats in the next Knesset. Wednesday’s Channel 13 survey sees far-right PM Netanyahu’s Likud party gaining one seat and the Jont List win 15. As with previous surveys, without the Joint List parties’ support, both blocs fall short of securing the required 61-seat majority to form a ruling coalition
According to another poll, published on Thursday by the Zman Israel website, Joint list of Hadash and three Arab parties would win 14 of the Knesset’s 120 seats if elections were held today, continuing to prevent a parliamentary majority from the Zionist opposition parties.

Israel: Arab parties agree to revive Joint List ahead of Knesset election
„The Joint List could become the second or third largest party in the Knesset in terms of size and representation, forming a parliamentary bloc capable of achieving far more than any small party acting alone,“ he added.
Efforts to re-establish the Joint List have been underway for some time. In August, The Times of Israel reported that party leaders were holding talks aimed at reviving the alliance, amid frustration over Israel’s war on Gaza and a desire to increase the political influence of Palestinian citizens of Israel.
Palestinian parties in Israel agree to revive Joint List ahead of elections
The pledge document, entitled „Joint List Now“, was signed by Sami Abu Shehadeh, head of the National Democratic Assembly (Balad); Ayman Odeh, head of the Hadash alliance; Ahmad Tibi, head of the Arab Movement for Change (Ta’al); and Mansour Abbas, head of the United Arab List (Ra’am).
The parties first formed the Joint List in 2015 to run on a shared platform representing Palestinian citizens of Israel.
