Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon late on Friday killed at least three people and injured 23, the Lebanese health ministry said.
The ministry said in a statement that strikes hit five locations in the southern Tyre and Nabatieh regions and the Bekaa region in the east.
It updated an earlier toll given by Lebanese official media, which had reported two of the deaths in the south.
President Donald Trump greenlights retaliatory strikes on Iran just hours after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was talking about a return to the ceasefire under the memorandum of understanding (MOU). Pezeshkian met Russia‘s Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

GAZA, August 19, 2026 (WAFA) – At least nine Palestinians were killed and 15 others injured on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City.
WAFA correspondent, citing sources at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, reported that the bodies of nine Palestinians, most of them burned and dismembered, were brought to the hospital, along with 15 injured Palestinians, most of whom were in critical condition.
At least two people were killed on Wednesday when the town of Mayfadoun was rocked by an explosion amid ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon that have included airstrikes, artillery barrages and ground incursions.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) attributed the explosion to a “suspicious object” left behind from a previous Israeli attack.
NNA also reported that a fire had broken out in the nearby town of Mansouri after an Israeli drone dropped explosive ordnance in the area.

Explosions are being reported from Iran‘s southwestern Bushehr province, according to the country‘s Mehr news agency.
Iran‘s state broadcaster IRIB said eight explosions were heard in the southern port city, with air defence systems activated as a result.
Oil prices rose, and stock markets dropped in shaky trading worldwide Wednesday after President Donald Trump raised doubts about the temporary truce in the war with Iran.
The S&P 500 fell as much as 1.1% after Trump said the agreement to pause fighting was “over,” but the index then trimmed its loss to 0.3% after Trump said the most recent exchange of fire with the Islamic Republic did not herald a return to full-scale war. They’re his latest mixed messages on what will happen with the war, which threatens to worsen inflation for the world.

The prime minister has been warning for over 20 years that Tehran is close to achieving its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
(September / October 2014)
A few Iranian sources have previously pointed to a fatwa by the Islamic Republic’s first supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, prohibiting chemical weapons as the explanation for why Iran did not deploy these weapons during the war with Iraq. But no details have ever been made public on when and how Khomeini issued such a fatwa, so it has been ignored for decades.
Now, however, the wartime chief of the Iranian ministry responsible for military procurement has provided an eyewitness account of Khomeini’s ban not only on chemical weapons, but on nuclear weapons as well. In an interview with me in Tehran in late September, Mohsen Rafighdoost, who served as minister of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) throughout the eight-year war, revealed that he had proposed to Khomeini that Iran begin working on both nuclear and chemical weapons — but was told in two separate meetings that weapons of mass destruction are forbidden by Islam.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has reiterated Iran’s opposition to nuclear weapons, saying the policy is rooted in “theological“ beliefs and a religious decree issued by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei banning nuclear arms.
„When the religious leader explicitly states that we will not pursue nuclear weapons, this is a position rooted in theological and jurisprudential beliefs, not a political tactic that can be changed,” Pezeshkian said while speaking during a visit to the northern province of Mazandaran on Thursday, highlighting the fatwa (religious decree) that had been issued by Ayatollah Khamenei forbidding nuclear arms.
“Another principle of the government, of the broad national government that I intend to lead, is that there is no room for two states. Between the sea and the Jordan River, there is no room for two states,” he told reporters.
“Now, you ask me, three years ago, before the war, the public was divided on this issue. Although I believe that most of the public was opposed, a significant portion supported it. I think that has changed. This is now a basis for agreement.”
Earlier, he described the framework agreement with Lebanon as a „historic accomplishment“ and a „massive blow to Iran and Hezbollah“.
Netanyahu said the understandings reached with Lebanon and the US recognise Israel‘s right to maintain a security zone inside southern Lebanon for as long as it considers necessary.
The incident follows a similar back and forth that occurred just days prior when an Iranian drone struck a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman on Thursday and the U.S. military retaliated with strikes.
The U.S. military conducted strikes against Iran on Friday, Central Command said in a statement, adding that U.S. aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites after Tehran‘s attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that it has conducted strikes against Iran following Tehran’s attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
“US aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites after Iran hit M/V Ever Lovely on June 25 with a one-way attack drone,” CENTCOM said in a post on X, adding that the “unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire.”
The statement added that the Israeli attacks have led to “brutal killings and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of oppressed people” in southern Lebanon, adding that the Israeli regime has also failed to withdraw its forces from those territories.
The military command said that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the first step in response to the breach of commitments under the MoU by the US and its allies, adding that Iran will adopt further measures to compel the enemy to fulfill its obligations.
Iran’s military command said it will close the Strait of Hormuz due to Israel’s “ongoing” violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon and the United States “failing to implement” the first clause of the tentative agreement to end the war, Iranian state media reported on Saturday.
“In view of the United States’ bad faith and its clear breach of its commitments by failing to implement the first article of the memorandum ending the war, and in response to the continuous and ongoing violation of the ceasefire by the Zionist regime in southern Lebanon… It hereby announces that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to the passage of vessels,” Iran’s top joint military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said in a statement that was reported by state broadcaster IRIB.
“We will maintain and manage the security of the Strait of Hormuz with all our might and we announce to all commercial ships and tankers to refrain from any action to transit without the coordination of the armed forces stationed in the Strait of Hormuz so that their security is not jeopardised,” the military said.
“We warn that any foreign armed force, especially the aggressive US army, will be attacked if they attempt to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz.”
„It‘s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don‘t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don‘t think so, based on what we know,“ Trump told reporters in a briefing at the White House after the shocking security incident.
Trump had earlier said, however, that „you never know“ if it could be linked to the Iran war, and said…
“Deep historical mistrust in Iran toward U.S. gov conduct remains, while unconstructive & contradictory signals from American officials carry a bitter message; they seek Iran’s surrender. Iranians do not submit to force,” the president wrote.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the United States is not serious about negotiations with Iran, and that Tehran had no plans to take part in a second round of talks with Washington.
Iran has announced it will not participate in the second round of direct talks with the United States scheduled in Pakistan, amid an already fragile standoff between the two countries.
NNA – Nabatieh – Israeli warplanes launched an air raid targeting the southern Lebanese town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh.
Enemy warplanes also carried out an airstrike targeting a house in the town of Rihan in Jezzine district.
An Israeli drone also targeted a car on the Abbasieh-Tyre road.
An enemy airstrike was also launched on the town of Baraashit.
Additionally, the enemy dropped leaflets on the town of Shebaa.
Meanwhile, Rubio says he‘s hopeful for progress at high-stakes direct talks between Israel and Lebanon underway in DC.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s request to delay testifying in his criminal trial was accepted by judges on Sunday due to „security and political“ reasons related to „the dramatic events that have occurred in the State of Israel and throughout the Middle East in recent times,“ according to a letter sent to judges.
“Not only is it contentious in itself, what remains even more contentious is the fact that no one seems to agree about what everyone agreed about, or didn’t agree about,” Pinfold told Al Jazeera.
“We don’t know what Iran agreed to, we don’t know what both sides think they agreed to,” he added, noting the further complication that various parties which were either attacked or involved in the fighting were not represented.
Iran says they have 10 points. The US says it has 15 points. The problem here is a dilemma that there is no single document that anyone can refer to for what both sides are going to discuss.

Beispiel 3:
Präsident A will sein „Einflussgebiet“ („Area of Influence“) vergrößern.
Man will doch nicht streiten. Wo doch alle profitieren, von der Lage.
Eine Verschwörung hat nicht stattgefunden. Es sind einfach alle vernünftig.
Lebanon‘s health ministry said Wednesday that Israeli strikes on Beirut‘s southern suburbs and a nearby town killed at least seven people.
The health ministry said an Israeli raid early Wednesday in the Jnah area killed at least five people and wounded 21 others.
“Last night, in a precise and lethal operation, the IDF eliminated the commander of the IRGC Navy, Tangasiri, along with senior naval command officials,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday. “We will continue operating in Iran with full force to achieve the war’s objectives.”
Within days of the war’s beginning, said David Barnea, the Mossad chief, his service would likely be able to galvanize the Iranian opposition — igniting riots and other acts of rebellion that could even lead to the collapse of Iran’s government. Mr. Barnea also presented the proposal to senior Trump administration officials during a visit to Washington in mid-January.
Mr. Netanyahu adopted the plan.
