MK Cassif: “Right has found its right-hand man”

When asked if a government could be formed “without the support of MKs Ahmad Tibi or Aida Touma-Sliman” from the Hadash-Ta’al faction, Bennett replied: “We have a large majority even without them.” This statement comes despite a series of recent polls indicating that the Zionist parties opposing Netanyahu are unlikely to secure a majority without the support of Hadash and the Arab parties. Following the unification, Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the new “Yashar” party, called this morning for a meeting of opposition leaders excluding Hadash and Islamist Ra’am, “in order to ensure victory through Zionist and statesmanlike votes without Arabs.” In his announcement, Eisenkot mentioned the leaders of the “Together” list, Bennett and Lapid, as well as Yisrael Beiteinu chairman MK Avigdor Lieberman and The Democrats leader Yair Golan.

Two former Israeli prime ministers join forces against Netanyahu in upcoming elections

Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid served as prime ministers in a rotation agreement as part of a coalition government they formed in 2021, ending 12 years of Netanyahu’s rule. Now they plan to merge their parties into single faction headed by Bennett, calling it a partnership between the center and the right.

Bennett said if elected, the new government on its first day would establish a state commission of inquiry into the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel that started the war, an issue that has dogged Netanyahu.

There have been calls in Israel for a public inquiry into the failures around the Oct. 7 attack, the deadliest on Israel in its history.

Der Antragsentwurf der Christenunion hat es in sich: In Deutschland soll nicht nur bei Fragen der Einreise und des Asyls eine Politik im Stile Donald Trumps mit massiven Verschärfungen beginnen. Auch ein ganzer Überwachungskatalog soll Wirklichkeit werden. Neben mehreren Vorhaben von technisierter Massenüberwachung ist auch der Ausbau staatlichen Hackings vorgesehen, dazu mehr Befugnisse für Polizei und Geheimdienste.

Die Fülle an Vorhaben begründet die Union mit den zurückliegenden Morden von Tätern mit psychischen Auffälligkeiten in Magdeburg und Aschaffenburg und mit der „ernüchternden innenpolitischen Bilanz nach drei Jahren Regierung Scholz“, wie es im Antrag heißt.

Die wenigen Abgeordneten des Bundestags, die in Überwachungsfragen der Geheimdienste Einblick bekommen, sollte das beunruhigen. Denn die Kontrolle durch das Parlament ist schon heute unterentwickelt und kaum praktikabel. Parlamentarische Untersuchungsausschüsse des Bundestags, die wegen Geheimdienstskandalen immer wieder bemüht werden mussten, haben gezeigt: Das Stochern im Nebel hat System. Wenn nun noch mehr Auflagen „zurückgeführt werden“, läuft die Geheimdienstkontrolle ins Leere.

ARD-DeutschlandTrend: Vorgehen der Union spaltet die Deutschen

Im aktuellen ARD DeutschlandTrend äußert sich die Hälfte kritisch zum Vorgehen der Union, mit AfD-Stimmen einem Antrag zur Mehrheit zu verhelfen. Ein gutes Viertel davon (27 Prozent) finden das Vorgehen der Union grundsätzlich falsch. Knapp jeder Vierte (23 Prozent) ist zwar grundsätzlich mit dem Vorstoß der Union einverstanden, nicht jedoch mit der Inkaufnahme von AfD-Stimmen.

Gut vier von zehn (43 Prozent) bewerten das Unions-Vorgehen im Bundestag grundsätzlich als richtig – auch wenn dafür AfD-Stimmen in Kauf genommen wurden.

Sharp criticism of the law quickly came in from Hadash-Ta’al lawmakers and Israel’s rape crisis center umbrella organization, with both alleging the law improperly creates a ranking of the severity of such crimes. Hadash-Ta’al MK Aida Touma-Sliman, a former head of the Knesset’s Women’s Status Committee, told the Knesset: “Do not punish according to hierarchies and classifications.” “Shame on these laws,” she continued, tweeting after the law passed, “Don’t promote racism on the backs of victims!”
