Two former Israeli prime ministers join forces against Netanyahu in upcoming elections

Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid served as prime ministers in a rotation agreement as part of a coalition government they formed in 2021, ending 12 years of Netanyahuâs rule. Now they plan to merge their parties into single faction headed by Bennett, calling it a partnership between the center and the right.
Bennett said if elected, the new government on its first day would establish a state commission of inquiry into the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel that started the war, an issue that has dogged Netanyahu.
There have been calls in Israel for a public inquiry into the failures around the Oct. 7 attack, the deadliest on Israel in its history.

Der Antragsentwurf der Christenunion hat es in sich: In Deutschland soll nicht nur bei Fragen der Einreise und des Asyls eine Politik im Stile Donald Trumps mit massiven VerschĂ€rfungen beginnen. Auch ein ganzer Ăberwachungskatalog soll Wirklichkeit werden. Neben mehreren Vorhaben von technisierter MassenĂŒberwachung ist auch der Ausbau staatlichen Hackings vorgesehen, dazu mehr Befugnisse fĂŒr Polizei und Geheimdienste.
Die FĂŒlle an Vorhaben begrĂŒndet die Union mit den zurĂŒckliegenden Morden von TĂ€tern mit psychischen AuffĂ€lligkeiten in Magdeburg und Aschaffenburg und mit der âernĂŒchternden innenpolitischen Bilanz nach drei Jahren Regierung Scholzâ, wie es im Antrag heiĂt.

Die wenigen Abgeordneten des Bundestags, die in Ăberwachungsfragen der Geheimdienste Einblick bekommen, sollte das beunruhigen. Denn die Kontrolle durch das Parlament ist schon heute unterentwickelt und kaum praktikabel. ARD-DeutschlandTrend: Vorgehen der Union spaltet die Deutschen
Im aktuellen ARD DeutschlandTrend Ă€uĂert sich die HĂ€lfte kritisch zum Vorgehen der Union, mit AfD-Stimmen einem Antrag zur Mehrheit zu verhelfen. Ein gutes Viertel davon (27 Prozent) finden das Vorgehen der Union grundsĂ€tzlich falsch. Knapp jeder Vierte (23 Prozent) ist zwar grundsĂ€tzlich mit dem VorstoĂ der Union einverstanden, nicht jedoch mit der Inkaufnahme von AfD-Stimmen.
Gut vier von zehn (43 Prozent) bewerten das Unions-Vorgehen im Bundestag grundsĂ€tzlich als richtig – auch wenn dafĂŒr AfD-Stimmen in Kauf genommen wurden.

Nach turbulenten Tagen in der österreichischen Innenpolitik steht offenbar fest: Die ĂVP wird Verhandlungen mit der FPĂ unter Herbert Kickl aufnehmen â und das als Juniorpartner. Das heiĂt, dass Kickl der nĂ€chste Kanzler werden könnte. GesprĂ€che ĂŒber eine Koalition zwischen ĂVP und SPĂ waren zuvor gescheitert.

Sponsored by a group of lawmakers led by MK Limor Son Har Melech, from the racist coalition faction Otzma Yehudit, and MK Yulia Malinovsky from right-wing opposition party Yisrael Beytenu, the new law marked a rare case of cross-Knesset alignment and passed 39 to 7 on its final reading.
Sharp criticism of the law quickly came in from Hadash-Taâal lawmakers and Israelâs rape crisis center umbrella organization, with both alleging the law improperly creates a ranking of the severity of such crimes. Hadash-Taâal MK Aida Touma-Sliman, a former head of the Knessetâs Womenâs Status Committee, told the Knesset: âDo not punish according to hierarchies and classifications.â âShame on these laws,â she continued, tweeting after the law passed, âDonât promote racism on the backs of victims!â
