Electoral reforms are necessary but insufficient. The deeper problem is not the ballot â it is the collapse of the organized civic life that once connected voters to the institutions that govern them. Rebuilding that infrastructure is not a workaround. It is the most important work we can be doing today, not just for California but for America.

As AIPAC Spends Millions to Oust Him, Massie Unveils Bill Requiring Pro-Israel Lobby to Register as Foreign Agent
As the Israel lobby attempts to end his political career, the Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced a bill that would require lobbyists working for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, commonly known as AIPAC, to register as foreign agents.
The bill, known as the Americans Insist on Political Agent Clarity (AIPAC) Act, would amend the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938 (FARA), which requires those working to influence government policy on behalf of a foreign power to register with the US Department of Justice (DOJ).
Pressure on Starmer Mounts as Dozens of Labour Lawmakers Call on Him to Quit
Dozens of Labour Party lawmakers called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign on Monday, effectively rejecting their leaderâs efforts to quell a mutiny in the party ranks and raising the likelihood of a bruising leadership battle.
Mr. Starmer began the day with a speech he hoped would quiet the brewing rebellion, acknowledging the anger expressed by voters last week when they overwhelmingly rejected Labour Party candidates in elections across England, Scotland and Wales.
Starmer under pressure, as Labour suffers heavy elections losses
The results in England, Scotland and Wales have piled pressure on Sir Keir, with some Labour MPs calling for him to set a timetable for his departure, although his cabinet allies have backed him for now.
Labour has lost power in Wales, ending its 27 year-long rule, while the SNP appears likely to remain the largest party in Scotland.
Reform UK has been the big winner in England, picking up more than 1,400 seats and taking control of councils in areas where Labour and the Conservatives have been historically dominant.

Assembly of Experts elects Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as Iranâs third Leader
The statement said the Assembly of Experts moved quickly to select a successor despite acute wartime conditions, direct threats against the institution and the bombing of the Assemblyâs secretariat offices, which it said resulted in the deaths of several staff members and security personnel.
According to the statement, the body began preparations for an extraordinary session immediately after news of the Leaderâs martyrdom. It said arrangements were made to gather its members from across the country in order to ensure that the Islamic Republic would not face a leadership vacuum.
Under Iranâs constitution, the Assembly of Experts â an 88-member clerical body elected by popular vote â is responsible for selecting and overseeing the countryâs Leader.

Corbyn and Sultana are neck-and-neck in the race to lead Your Party
(February 4, 2026)
Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultanaâs slates are at level pegging in the battle to lead Your Party, with less than a week until the organisation holds internal elections.
The endorsement phase â in which members were able to endorse candidates they wish to see on the ballot for elections to Your Partyâs central executive committee â closed on Thursday 29 January. Corbynâs slate â The Many â are leading in 12 seats, while Grassroots Left, which Sultana is attached to, are leading in 10.
Announcing: The Socialist Leadership Programme
In Your Party, we have to do things differently. Thatâs why The Many is announcing the Socialist Leadership Programme: If we are elected to Your Partyâs Central Executive Committee, we will establish this programme to identify, educate and train a new generation of working-class socialist leaders.
These are leaders who will represent the full breath of our coalition: Old and young, from all faiths and none, and from every corner of Britain. Leaders built up not from Westminster and the professional political class, but from community campaigns, workplace struggles, and social movements. Leaders who wonât just posture, but will build real power.
How Do We Beat the Far Right? With Unity
We need an alternative â and this requires more than just a different policy position. It requires a new kind of politics: one that harnesses the unifying power of solidarity to defeat the divisive tactic of scapegoating. One that unites working class people in all their diversity and empowers communities to wage campaigns where they live and work. One that stops treating politics as something that is done to people â and starts treating politics as something that is done by people.
This imperative led to the birth of Your Party. The surge of community-based victories in recent years â from the remarkable success of independent candidates in the 2024 general election, to the blossoming of local community independent groups in councils all over the country â demonstrated a demand for an alternative to the failed establishment politics.

New Leadership Team Takes Office Friday 27 February 2026
Corbyn will be Your Party parliamentary leader if his slate wins CEC election, allies say
JEREMY CORBYN will be elected parliamentary leader for Your Party if his slate wins the central executive committee election next month, his allies say.
If the list of candidates headed by the former Labour Party leader, called The Many, clinch the nomination on February 26, Zarah Sultanaâs âparliamentary convenerâ model would not see the light of day.
ELECTION OF THE CEC
The Central Executive Committee (CEC) will be the team elected by members to lead and run Your Party day-to-day â overseeing staff and resources, guiding our strategy, and putting decisions from the founding conference into action. Following membersâ decision at our founding conference, it will also act as the collective leadership of Your Party, with the Chair, Vice Chair, and Spokesperson in particular serving as the public political leadership.
Our first CEC elections begin in January 2026 and will be open to all verified members, using a one-member-one-vote system with both digital and postal options. Once voting concludes in February 2026, the newly elected CEC will take on the responsibility of steering the party forward. The full timetable is below and the rules for the election here.

What Is The New Constitution Amendment Bill And Why Opposition Leaders Are Calling It âPath To Dictatorshipâ | Explained
(August 20, 2025)
The three bills sparked a massive uproar in Lok Sabha with Opposition MPs tearing the copies of the draft legislation and throwing them at Home Minister Amit Shah. Following the uproar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah referred the bills to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, comprising 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha.
The Committee has been mandated to submit its report to the House by the last day of the first week of the next session. The next session (Winter session) of the Parliament is likely to be convened in the third week of November.
