Complicit Coverage

The titles of two new books about Israel’s genocide in Gaza succinctly state their shared argument: Corporate, mainstream media have been complicit in the horrific violence the Zionist state has inflicted and continues to inflict on Palestinians in Gaza. Print and online media, as well as cable news, have sold the genocide to their readers and audiences, turning reality on its head by portraying the Israeli perpetrators as victims of bloodthirsty terrorists and their Palestinian victims as bloodthirsty terrorists, terrorist sympathizers, or terrorists-to-be. As Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Nissim Vaturi said in a televised 2025 interview, “any child” born in Gaza is “already a terrorist from the moment of his birth.”

Adam Johnson, a media analyst and co-host of the podcast Citations Needed, and Robin Andersen, professor emerita of media studies at New York’s Fordham University and contributor to various independent media, have meticulously documented how U.S. media enable Israel’s mass killings. Their reviews of print, online, and cable coverage illustrate how media have acted as virtual mouthpieces for Israel’s government and its military as well as for the U.S. State Department.

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman appears in surprise video at GOP midterm convention

In the roughly one-minute video introducing McCormick on stage, Fetterman made clear that he is still a Democrat. But took aim at the rise of “socialism” in his own party – a notable and public rebuke to the Democrats’ left flank.

“Yes, I’m a Democrat. Why am I here talking to you today? Because well, I’m a common sense Democrat. I’m always going to stand with America. I’m always going to reject the extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life,” Fetterman said in the pre-recorded video.

DSA Statement on the New State Department Report on Cuba

(August 10, 2026)

We are being depicted as fanatics for building a world where people live in peace, safe from bombs; where no child goes hungry; where no family has to worry that their lives will be ripped apart by ICE; and where no one has to suffer from lack of housing or healthcare. They depict us as such because they are afraid that our ideas are not fringe demands. These are the demands that millions of Americans have already committed to fighting for at the ballot box and in the streets.

Despite Rubio’s attempt to smear us, his report admits that DSA does not organize on behalf of the Cuban Government, only of its own accord.

Socialists Can Never Win — Until We Do

We all know the narrative by now: socialists are too radical, fringe, and unpopular to win any kind of lasting power. “Enjoy your time in the sun, lefties, because any moment now the hammer of reasonable, moderate thought will come crashing down and send you back to the depths of political obscurity with your collective tail tucked between your legs.”

Variations of this line are repeated constantly across the country by national media and prominent members of both parties. They repeat it like a mantra, both because they need it to be true and because they would rather eat glass than honestly engage with our ideas. Unfortunately for them, the recent streak of socialist victories has proven there is immense hunger for a working-class movement in this country. In fact, DSA may be more popular among Democratic voters than the Democratic Party itself. One out of three Democratic voters now identify as democratic socialists, and even among those who don’t, two-thirds would be comfortable voting for one.

The Left Notches Another Win With This Secret Weapon: Old-Fashioned Organizing

(August 19, 2026)

The group of volunteers for her underdog Senate campaign sat inside a union office in suburban Broward County, a liberal stronghold in the increasingly Republican-leaning state. It was a small group, maybe a dozen people.

But don’t worry, Ms. Nixon’s political director, Rachel Gilmer, reassured them: “This tiny room is part of many, many tiny rooms” across the state, she said, with more volunteers also ready to knock on Democratic voters’ doors.

Socialists Are Winning Using Old-Fashioned Democratic Means

(June 17, 2026)

We live in an intensely atomized society, and at no point have we been more alone than today, when the old bonds of community have largely eroded after decades of neoliberalism.

(…)

When this is connected to a project of expanding the electorate instead of only trying to persuade frequent voters, at its best, the result is a feeling of equality and common cause between the canvasser and the voter: you knocked on my door, nobody ever knocked on my door before, and you brought to my attention a vision of politics which I hadn’t before been exposed to. I and others have even on occasion recruited people to DSA in this way, after winning a voter over to our candidates.

‘The Fight Has Just Begun’: Angie Nixon Delivers Shocking Upset Win in Florida

In a surprise upset described variously as “stunning” and “a shocker” in headlines, State Rep. Angie Nixon won the Democratic primary for the open US Senate seat in Florida on Tuesday, defeating Lt. Col. Alex Vindman, the former national security official who many presumed would sail to victory with the support of the party establishment and a massive cash advantage.

Nixon, a former union organizer and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, will now face Sen. Ashley Moody, whom Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed to the seat after former Sen. Marco Rubio became Secretary of State, in the general election.

Angie For Florida

What Led To This Moment

Angie Nixon is a Florida State Representative, union organizer, and mother born and raised in Jacksonville who has spent her career fighting for hardworking Floridians. In the State House, she expanded childcare, took on corporate price-gouging, and led the fight against DeSantis’s unfair voting maps. Her leadership is rooted in lived experience—watching her mom work two jobs to get by, attending public schools, and losing her cousin to gun violence. Angie is running to lower costs, raise wages, and build a people-powered government that puts families first—not greedy billionaires.

Vindman ran a centrist camapaign focused on corruption and the need for congressional checks on the Trump administration. But some strategists have said his campaign was a sleepy one, centered more on the general election than on the primary, where he faced an experienced campaigner.

Vindman declined to debate Nixon during the campaign. He conceded the race Tuesday night, applauding her “hard work” and Democratic nomination to the U.S. Senate. “”I will be standing by her,” he said, “and my hope is that she wins this election, because again, the stakes couldn’t be higher.”

Socialists capture major Florida victory on hit-or-miss night for Trump-endorsed primary candidates

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) member and Democratic state Rep. Angie Nixon scored a massive upset in the state‘s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Nixon ran against retired Air Force Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a prominent critic of Trump who played a central role in the left‘s failed 2019 impeachment attempt, who was expected to emerge victorious.

She defeated Vindman by almost 12 points, despite his $16.3 million war chest, compared to hers of only about $1 million. As of July, Vindman had spent about $9 million on the race, while Nixon had spent just over $700,000.

Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez forge alliance to advance their socialist agenda

Asked whether AOC, who is 36, would make a good president, Mamdani did not hesitate: “I think she’d make a good anything.” The rise of socialists, personified by this pair of young politicians, has provoked thinly veiled concern within the Democratic establishment, especially among those sectors tied to the party’s traditional support for Israel.

This included a media campaign in the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, The Guardian and latterly CNN; private warnings by David Cameron, then foreign secretary, who told him Britain would defund the ICC and withdraw from the Rome Statute if the warrants were issued; Republican senators who told him: „Target Israel and we will target you“, and being named publicly as a suspect before he had even had the chance to defend himself by the president of the Assembly of State Parties (ASP), Finland‘s Paivi Kaukoranta.

Danon threatened Mamdani with the same fate as Khan. „@NYCMayor Zohran Mamdani, take note: using Israel as a political weapon will not shield you from accountability,“ Danon posted.

Slamming Trump’s Cuba Report as ‘McCarthyite Attack’ on Free Speech, Dems Vow to Fight Back

President Donald Trump’s escalating claims that Cuba and its supporters poses a threat to US security have been denounced as “laughable” and “crazy,” but progressive lawmakers are warning that the State Department’s report alleging that the country of roughly 10 million people aims to “conquer” the United States and is backing “left-wing terrorism on American soil” represents a genuine attack on Trump’s perceived political enemies.

“Trump appears hell-bent on taking America back 70 years to the height of Cold War McCarthyism, when hawkish foreign policy was paired with unsubstantiated accusations of communist subversion and political repression against dissidents at home,” said a group of Democrats led by progressive Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Peace and Security Taskforce. “We condemn this report’s attack on Americans’ constitutional rights to free speech and assembly.”

U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman, a two-term incumbent, was beaten by the Mamdani-backed former city Comptroller Brad Lander, a fixture among New York progressives who has often shown sympathy to the democratic socialist movement. In a rally with Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., that drew thousands to a Brooklyn theater, the emboldened mayor delivered a fiery message to Democratic leaders in Washington — and even those considering 2028 presidential bids — as he worked to elevate a slate of likeminded candidates in Tuesday’s New York primaries.
