Coalition strengthens as People of Israel crosses threshold, despite Likud dropping one seat – poll
After the submission of party lists ahead of the Knesset elections, the coalition bloc has strengthened by three seats to 50, following People of Israelâs crossing of the electoral threshold. This is according to a Maariv poll conducted by Lazar Research, headed by Dr. Menachem Lazar, in cooperation with Panel4ALL.
However, Likud has lost one seat, falling to just 19, its lowest figure since May 29, 2025.
The farce of Israelâs âliberalâ investigative journalism
Two weeks ago, the investigative program HaMakor on Israelâs Channel 13 aired a 60-minute report on the December 2023 killing of three Israeli hostages â Yotam Haim, Alon Shamriz, and Samer Al-Talalka â who were shot by Israeli soldiers in Shujaâiya, eastern Gaza City, after emerging from a hiding place carrying a white flag.
Even without intimate knowledge of the details, one thing should have been clear from the outset: When soldiers fire from inside buildings at three shirtless men carrying a white flag, kill two of them, then pursue the third, call him out of hiding, and shoot him dead, the issue is not merely âmistaken identity.â The issue is that Israeli soldiers routinely shoot innocent people. One would have to be extraordinarily naĂŻve to believe that the single time this happened, the victims just happened to be Israelis.

The only solution is the two-state solution. Gaza should be liberated, the West Bank including East Jerusalem must be liberated. The Palestinian people must be liberated â which, in my view, is also the liberation of the Israeli people. Israel is waging a holocaust in Gaza. Denazification is our only remedy
What Israel is doing in Gaza City is not the tragic byproduct of chaotic events on the ground, but a well-calculated act of annihilation, executed in cold blood by âthe peopleâs armyâ â that is, the fathers, sons, brothers, and neighbors of us Israelis.
How is it that, despite the mounting testimonies from Gazaâs concentration and extermination camps, no mass refusal movement has taken root in Israel? That after two years of this carnage barely a handful of conscientious objectors sit in prison is truly inconceivable. Even the so-called âgray refusersâ â reserve soldiers who do not oppose the war on ideological grounds but are simply exhausted and questioning its purpose â remain far too few to slow the killing machine, let alone bring it to a halt.
Who are these obedient souls who keep this system running? How can a society so deeply fractured â between the religious and the secular, settlers and liberals, kibbutzniks and urbanites, veteran immigrants and new arrivals â unite only in its willingness to slaughter Palestinians without a momentâs hesitation?

Even more surprising is the Israeli publicâs near-total embrace over the last three weeks of Netanyahuâs declared desire to prosecute a war for âtotal victoryâ. Prior to this, hundreds of thousands of people were out on the streets, demanding a âdeal nowâ and accusing the prime minister of prolonging the war for his own ends.
Now, it seems the majority of Israelâs Jewish public, from Ben Gvir supporters to fans of the centre-left Zionist Yair Golan, wants a never-ending war. Even the first casualties from the ground invasion of Lebanon are not shifting this support â at least so far.
How the war on Gaza exposed Israeli and western fascism
Just one example: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the Palestinians as âAmalekâ â a reference to a biblical story well known to every Israeli schoolchild, in which the Israelites are ordered by God to wipe an entire people, including their children and livestock, off the face of the earth.
Anyone engaged on social media will have faced a battery of similarly genocidal statements from mostly anonymous supporters of Israel.
Those genocide cheerleaders recently gained a face â two, in fact. Video clips of two Israelis, podcasting in English under the name âTwo Nice Jewish Boysâ, have gone viral, showing the pair calling for the extermination of every last Palestinian man, woman and child.
One of the podcasters said that âzero people in Israelâ care whether a polio outbreak caused by Israelâs destruction of Gazaâs water, sewage and heath facilities ends up killing babies, noting that Israelâs agreement to a vaccination campaign is driven purely by public relations needs.
In another clip, the podcasters agree that Palestinian hostages in Israeli prisons deserve to be âexecuted by shoving too large of an object up their buttsâ.
They also make clear that they would not hesitate to press a genocide button to wipe out the Palestinian people: âIf you gave me a button to just erase Gaza â every single living being in Gaza would no longer be living tomorrow â I would press it in a second ⊠And I think most Israelis would. They wouldnât talk about it like I am, they wouldnât say âI pressed itâ, but they would press it.â
Weâre Beginning to Learn How the War on Terror Shaped a Generation

That might have been why, when President Biden and Israeli officials said that Oct. 7 was Israelâs Sept. 11, intending the comparison as a rallying cry for self-defense, their words seemed to many instead a cruel provocation of trauma. Were they kidding? The response to Sept. 11 was catastrophic for the Arab and Muslim world and, eventually, terrible for the United States. A similar response to Oct. 7 would be terrible for the Israeli people, and a total reinvention of hell for the Palestinians. We know this because we are Americans. In the Israelis, we saw our own leaders: shocked victims for a day, destroyers of worlds every day thereafter.
âIsraelis are frustrated, but do they want to stop the war? Not exactlyâ
But now Netanyahuâs support is starting to bounce back, right?
Yes, weâre seeing trust in the government recover pretty consistently across all surveys â starting in April [when Israel assassinated an Iranian Quds Force commander in Damascus, and Iran responded with a missile attack]. A series of polls in recent weeks have shown that Likud would win the most votes if elections were held today, and Netanyahu himself is once again coming out on top in head-to-head surveys against opposition leader Benny Gantz. Heâs not in a stellar position, but he is more or less where he was before the war.
This recovery is linked to the new threats from Iran and Hezbollah following Israelâs assassinations in Beirut and Tehran.

Biden and his aides have urged Netanyahu in strong terms not to launch a major offensive in Rafah until Israel crafts a plan for mass evacuation of civilians from the last area of Gaza it has not yet invaded with ground forces. More than half of Gaza‘s 2.3 million people are sheltering in the Rafah area.

Since 2005, as Dotan Halevy, one of the anthologyâs editors puts it in the introduction, a generation has grown up in Gaza âthat knows nothing of Israelâ (and in Israel, a generation that âknows nothing of Gazaâ). Unfortunately, that generation of Israelis is now getting to know Gaza too well. During the Oct. 7 assault, hundreds or even thousands of the Stripâs civilians streamed into southern Israel. They plundered and, alongside the Hamas fighters, murdered and rapedâwhile their faces shone with profound joy.

Zu den stundenlangen Appellen drauĂen im eiskalten Schnee, wo mir die Finger und Zehen erfroren, kamen noch die Misshandlungen dazuâŠ.
Ich wurde immer schwÀcher, lag auf der Pritsche und nahm kaum noch wahr, was um mich herum geschah.
Eines Tages bekam ich mit, dass die Deutschen alle HĂ€ftlinge zusammentrieben.
âRAUS ! AUFSTELLEN ! LOS ! MARSCH !â
Ich blieb liegen, hatte keine Kraft mehr zu reagieren.
Dann war es auf einmal still in der Baracke.
Neben mir lagen noch einige Frauen regungslos. Sie waren tot.
Ich weiĂ nicht wie lange ich so da lag, doch irgendwann spĂŒrten meine vom Fieber brennenden Lippen, eine Hand die mich mit kaltem Schnee fĂŒtterte.
Der Schnee tat gut, er stillte meine Schmerzen.
Dann versank alles wieder im Dunkeln.
Als ich das nĂ€chste Mal das Bewusstsein wieder erlangte, leuchtete ein feuerroter Stern ĂŒber mir.
Als mein Blick langsam klarer wurde, erkannte ich einen russischen Soldaten der sich lĂ€chelnd ĂŒber mich beugte.
Die menschliche WĂ€rme in seinem Blick tat mir gut.
Es war der 27. Januar 1945 und ich lebte.

Oder dem so lauten Schweigen aus der Mitte der GesellschaftâŠ.
Mir selbst wurden Lesungen kurz nach dem 7. Oktober in Schulen abgesagt⊠da nicht fĂŒr meine Sicherheit gesorgt werden könnte.
Die letzten Male sprach ich in Schulen unter Polizeischutz.
Ich weiĂ, dass ich das Trauma der Shoah an meine Kinder, Enkel und Urenkel weitergegeben habe.
Aber, dass sie jetzt diese ExistenzĂ€ngste auch REAL erleben mĂŒssen,
schmerzt mich sehr.
Die Shoah begann nicht mit Auschwitz. Sie begann mit WortenâŠ
Sie begann mit dem Schweigen und dem Wegschauen der Gesellschaft.
Es schmerzt mich,
wenn SchĂŒler jetzt wieder Angst haben in die Schule zu gehen – nur weil sie Juden sind.
Es schmerzt mich,
wenn meine Urenkelkinder immer noch von Polizisten mit Maschinengewehren beschĂŒtzt werden mĂŒssen, – nur weil sie Juden sind.
Ich wĂŒnsche mir,
dass nicht nur an den Gedenktagen an die toten Juden erinnert wird,
sondern auch im Alltag an die Lebenden.
S i e brauchen jetzt Schutz.
Es erschreckt mich,
das rechtsextreme Parteien wieder gewÀhlt werden.
Sie dĂŒrfen nicht so stark werden, dass unsere Demokratie gefĂ€hrdet wird.
Wir sind kurz davor.
Ich wĂŒnsche mir das die Gesellschaft nicht schweigt, wenn am Nebentisch antisemitische ĂuĂerungen fallen.
Wer schweigt macht sich mitschuldig.
Ich wĂŒnsche mir,
dass Studenten ihre jĂŒdischen Kommilitonen unterstĂŒtzen, wenn sie angefeindet werden.
Ich bin dankbar, dass unsere Regierung sich gleich nach dem 7. Oktober, mit Israel solidarisiert und sich hinter die JĂŒdischen Gemeinden in Deutschland gestellt hat.
Ich fĂŒhle mich durch unsere Demokratie beschĂŒtztâŠNochâŠ
Aber es macht mir groĂe Sorgen und ich bin traurig zu Sehen, was sich auf den StraĂen abspielt,
die Bereitschaft zur GewaltâŠ
der JudenhassâŠder Menschenhass..
Warum verteidigen nicht alle Menschen dieses wunderbare Grundgesetz und unsere Demokratie in der wir leben ?
