Saudi Arabia and its allies must curb the growing Israeli-Emirati axis

(4 May 2026 16:12 BST | Last update: 2 hours 57 mins ago)

Iranian sources told MEE that Iranian intelligence had established the Emirati role in the attacks went beyond hosting US bases.

One official said: „Iranian intelligence believes the UAE also made some of its own air facilities available for operations against Iran.“ Abu Dhabi has served as an advanced platform for Israeli interests in the region, the official said.

He suggested this included „deception operations“ – false-flag Israeli attacks on Oman and at least one other country intended to look like Iranian ones.

Iran also believes that cooperation included the use of the AI infrastructure within the UAE to support data collection and analysis for US and Israeli targeting.

If Iran were to be invaded, the UAE would be treated as an aggressor, one diplomat told MEE.

That the UAE has gone way beyond its Gulf neighbours in supporting the US and Israeli attack on Iran, is down to one man, its President Mohammed bin Zayed, often referred to by the acronym MBZ.

In a statement on Wednesday, the UK Ministry of Defence said: “The Ministry of Defence can confirm that a Shahed-like drone which targeted RAF Akrotiri at midnight on 2nd March was not launched from Iran. In the last 24 hours, the UK has resupplied air defence systemns to British and allied bases across the reigion– including UK-built air defence missiles.”

Russia built a massive drone factory to pump out Iranian-designed drones. Now it’s leaving Tehran out in the cold

(August 28, 2025)

“Finally, something no one else has,” a Russian journalist says during a TV documentary on the country’s largest drone factory. “Such mass production of two-stroke engines doesn’t exist anywhere else in Russia.”

The factory in question, Alabuga, 600 miles east of Moscow in Russia’s Tatarstan region, has been pumping out increasing numbers of the Iranian-designed Shahed-136 attack drone (known in Russia as Geran), but the man behind the site believes this may be one of its greatest achievements.

The new low-cost drones the US has quietly introduced to Iran conflict

(March 5, 2026)

In the opening salvoes of the attack, the US quietly introduced its Low-Cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System (Lucas), a one-way attack drone modelled on the cheap technology that Iran itself has been developing since the 1980s. Those Shahed drones were said to have been inspired by technology developed by Israel, which has co-led the assault with the US.

Iran Says No 4000-Km Range Missiles, Is It Something Else?

Asked about the Wall Street Journal quoting unnamed US officials as claiming that Iran fired two missiles at the UK-US military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, Aragchi said: “We have intentionally kept the range of our missiles below 2,000 kilometres, so we don’t have that capability. We have built that capability in order to defend ourselves against our enemies.”

He added that Iran does not seek confrontation with the West. “We don’t have any hostility against the United States people or Europeans,” he said, citing the limitation as a strategic choice rather than a technical constraint.

The denial came after the Wall Street Journal reported Friday that two intermediate-range ballistic missiles had been fired toward the base, with neither striking it.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to Anadolu‘s request for comment.

Iran Denies Targeting UK-US Military Base on Diego Garcia Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Unverified claims and information warfare

Reports of missile strikes on Diego Garcia remain disputed, with conflicting accounts from Western officials and Iranian state-linked media.

Some sources claim missiles were launched but failed or were intercepted before impact, while others say there is no confirmation of any successful strike on the base.

Independent verification of the incident remains limited due to the remote location and military sensitivity of the facility.

Exclusive: Iranian officials say Israel carried out some of the drone strikes on Gulf energy sites

Previous attacks have included the assassination of a top Iranian nuclear scientist travelling at high speeds in a car on an isolated road with a remote-controlled automatic machine gun; malware attacks on computers running key parts of Iran’s nuclear programme; and the theft of an archive of nuclear documents.

Another Iranian source told MEE that amid the latest attacks, Iran had „made a clear statement“ to Saudi Arabia that it was not behind the strikes on Saudi Aramco‘s Ras Tanura, which houses the kingdom‘s largest domestic refinery and is a key crude export terminal.

„This is an Israeli effort to sabotage regional peace and alliances between neighbours,“ the source added.

Iranian armed forces deny launching drone strike toward Azerbaijan

In a statement on Thursday, the General Staff categorically rejected reports that a drone attack was launched from Iran toward neighboring Azerbaijan, stressing that Tehran respects the sovereignty of its neighbors.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, while respecting the sovereignty of all countries, particularly Muslim and neighboring countries, strongly rejects any drone launch by its Armed Forces toward the Republic of Azerbaijan,” it stated.

The statement emphasized that there is precedent for the “fake Israeli regime” taking such actions, through various means, in an attempt to disrupt relations between Muslim countries.

UK says drone attack on Cyprus base was not launched from Iran

A drone which hit Britain‘s Royal Air Force Akrotiri base in Cyprus was not launched from Iran as many had initially assumed, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has revealed.

Officials reportedly believe the „Shahed-type drone“ evaded detection by flying low and slow on Sunday. It hit a hangar used by American U-2 spy planes and burst into flames.

There were no casualties and the MoD said there was „no damage to equipment inside the hangar“.

But the UK has still not confirmed where exactly the drone was launched from – and who was responsible.

Human Rights Expert Sounds Alarm Over Israeli Firm’s ‘Dystopian’ Video-Altering Tech

(December 27, 2022)

The company, whose activities are overseen by the Israeli Defense Ministry, “was set up in 2018 and has offices in Tel Aviv and Washington,” Haaretz reported. “It works solely with state clients in government, intelligence bodies, and law enforcement agencies, almost exclusively—but not just—in the West. According to the internal documents, as of 2021, the company had contracts with Israel valued at $6 million, and had also planned an ‘expansion of existing deployment’ in Israel.”

Toka can tap into web-connected cameras found virtually everywhere—intersections, parking lots, malls, hotels, airports, and even homes. Haaretz compared the firm’s “cyberoffense” capabilities to the 2001 heist movie Ocean’s Eleven.

Knesset extends order allowing IDF, Shin Bet to hack into private security cameras

(December 24, 2025)

The Knesset approved a one-year extension of a temporary order that authorizes the IDF and Shin Bet security service to hack into private security cameras without their owners‘ knowledge.

Although the temporary order originally stipulated that hacking into cameras would only be done in cases related to „significant military activities,“ the current proposal eliminated this condition so that the order would not be dependent on the state of war. However, the grounds for activating the order were reduced.

Ten Knesset members voted in favor of the order in the third and final vote, with no opponents.
