Complicit Coverage

The titles of two new books about Israel’s genocide in Gaza succinctly state their shared argument: Corporate, mainstream media have been complicit in the horrific violence the Zionist state has inflicted and continues to inflict on Palestinians in Gaza. Print and online media, as well as cable news, have sold the genocide to their readers and audiences, turning reality on its head by portraying the Israeli perpetrators as victims of bloodthirsty terrorists and their Palestinian victims as bloodthirsty terrorists, terrorist sympathizers, or terrorists-to-be. As Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Nissim Vaturi said in a televised 2025 interview, “any child” born in Gaza is “already a terrorist from the moment of his birth.”

Adam Johnson, a media analyst and co-host of the podcast Citations Needed, and Robin Andersen, professor emerita of media studies at New York’s Fordham University and contributor to various independent media, have meticulously documented how U.S. media enable Israel’s mass killings. Their reviews of print, online, and cable coverage illustrate how media have acted as virtual mouthpieces for Israel’s government and its military as well as for the U.S. State Department.

Germany fights Gaza genocide claims at the top UN court

Germany told the United Nations’ top court on Monday that a genocide case over weapons sales to Israel was improperly filed by Nicaragua and should be thrown out.

The Central American country accuses Berlin of violating the Genocide Convention and international humanitarian law by “facilitating” acts of genocide in Gaza by providing arms and other military support to Israel.

Joint Letter to Chairmen Wicker and Rogers and Ranking Members Reed and Smith Opposing Further U.S.-Israel Defense Integration

Dear Chairmen Wicker and Rogers and Ranking Members Reed and Smith,

As you enter into conference to resolve the differences between the House-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027 (H.R.8800) and the pending Senate bill (S.4784), We, the undersigned U.S. organizations, strongly urge you to reject the entrenchment of U.S. and Israeli defense collaboration, which goes against U.S. national interests and values, and would expand the risk of U.S. complicity in, and exposure to, human rights violations, war crimes, and genocide.

Specifically, we are deeply concerned by Section 219 in the House NDAA and Section 1217 in the Senate version, which establish a new U.S. Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative aimed at accelerating joint research, development, and integration of Israeli-origin and jointly developed defense technologies into U.S. military systems and programs of record. This would expand U.S-Israeli military integration across some of the most sensitive domains of emerging technology, including quantum computing, AI and autonomous systems, cyber and electronic warfare, directed energy, and defense industrial base co-production, while expediting pathways from R&D into procurement.

Russia and Israel reject Sánchez’s accusations of alleged involvement in the Ceuta migration crisis

The European Commission, in fact, avoided commenting on the substance of the matter on Tuesday and referred to the work of the European External Action Service (EEAS) on foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI).

EU spokesperson Paula Pinho explained that the issue falls under the purview of the EEAS and stated that the Commission has no information of its own on this matter.

Spain‘s leader says Russia and Israel fueled Ceuta migrant crisis „disinformation“

He said research by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Union‘s diplomatic service, indicated links with Israeli and Russian networks, but he gave no further details.

„It is evident that if Russia gets involved in spreading disinformation on this issue, or Israel also spreads disinformation on this issue, criticizing the Spanish government, it will not be because they are concerned about migration in Spain or Europe, but precisely because of the political positions we are taking — courageous ones, I believe — regarding the genocide in Gaza or Putin‘s invasion of Ukraine,“ Sánchez said.

The EEAS did not immediately respond to a CBS News request for comment on the research cited by Sánchez.

‘Deranged Behavior’: Marco Rubio Slammed for US Sanctions on ICC President

The social media account of Drop Site News accused Rubio of attacking the court solely to protect Netanyahu from war crimes prosecution, pointing out that “there is currently not a single American citizen under indictment, investigation, or facing an arrest warrant” from the ICC.

The sanctions earned the praise of the Israeli American Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which accused the ICC of conducting “politically motivated investigations and prosecutions targeting America and Israel.”

Rutgers Law School professor Adil Haque said the ICC sanctions showed the US was acting like a “rogue government” and engaged in “deranged behavior.”

Netanyahu believes he can ‘continue to act with impunity’

Xavier Abu Eid, a political analyst and former adviser to the Palestinian negotiations team, says the Board of Peace and Resolution 2803 of the UN Security Council were accepted late last year because it was argued at that time that they were the only way to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

“But it was very clear from the very beginning that the 20-point plan of President Trump and the 15-point disarmament and implementation plan that followed were more about meeting Israeli interests than the Palestinian right to self-determination,” he said.

14 protesters were carted into police vans on Thursday morning for holding signs in support of the pro-Palestinian group, which remains a proscribed organisation in the UK, meaning showing support for it is illegal.

How Hakeem Jeffries and J Street Teamed Up for Arming Genocide

When House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries sent out a recent “dear colleague” letter, its second sentence cited “the position articulated by… pro-peace organizations like J Street.” The congressman and J Street were opposing an amendment to block $3.3 billion in military shipments and other aid to Israel.

Jeffries (NY) contended that the measure was “overly broad.” On the same day, using the same phrase “overly broad,” J Street issued a statement declaring that “we support Leader Jeffries’ decision to oppose the amendment.”

Both Jeffries and J Street respectfully noted that many members of Congress had understandable reasons to back the measure. The next day, July 15, a record 103 Democrats voted in favor of blocking weaponry to Israel.

Karim Khan dared to hold Israel to account – and that‘s why he was brought down

This included a media campaign in the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, The Guardian and latterly CNN; private warnings by David Cameron, then foreign secretary, who told him Britain would defund the ICC and withdraw from the Rome Statute if the warrants were issued; Republican senators who told him: „Target Israel and we will target you“, and being named publicly as a suspect before he had even had the chance to defend himself by the president of the Assembly of State Parties (ASP), Finland‘s Paivi Kaukoranta.

Danon threatened Mamdani with the same fate as Khan. „@NYCMayor Zohran Mamdani, take note: using Israel as a political weapon will not shield you from accountability,“ Danon posted.

House Rule Advances 2027 NDAA With Section to Integrate US and Israeli Militaries

The House on Tuesday approved a procedural vote to advance the $1.15 trillion 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a section to further integrate the US and Israeli militaries, a plan that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said was his idea.

The rule to allow floor debate and a vote on the NDAA and several pieces of legislation passed in a 214-211 vote, and a final vote on the House’s version of the NDAA is expected to take place on Wednesday. The procedural step came after the House Rules Committee denied a vote on an amendment introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) to strip Section 219, the Israeli integration plan, from the bill.

EU/Israel: Bloc’s consistent failure to suspend Association Agreement should spur member states to take unilateral action
