UN event on nuclear non-proliferation treaty stumbles, US and Iran clash

There was no consensus among the 191 parties to the NPT, the third failure in a row at a conference reviewing the treaty

(…)

Britain’s Rebecca Johnson, founding executive director of the Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy, had harsh criticism for both the US and Russia, the two largest nuclear powers, which she said “double down on nuclear threats, blame others and try to undermine or ignore the NPT’s nuclear disarmament commitments and related agreements”.

Exclusive: ICC prosecutor Karim Khan details ‚dangerous‘ attempt by states to remove him

The 125 member states of the ICC are represented on the ASP, but the ASP bureau is an executive committee made up of 21 members.

MEE has reported that the states on the bureau which voted to disregard the panel of judges were Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Ecuador, Finland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, New Zealand, Poland, Slovenia, South Korea, and Switzerland.

Khan’s future as prosecutor may ultimately be decided by a vote of ICC member states.

Human Rights Watch calls on Lebanon to join International Criminal Court after Israeli forces kill journalist

Human Rights Watch has called on the government of Lebanon to “accede to the International Criminal Court’s Rome Statute” and submit a declaration allowing the Court to “investigate and prosecute crimes committed in Lebanon since October 2023,” according to the organisation’s post on X.

Exclusive: ‚Handful‘ of ICC states aim to sabotage report clearing Karim Khan

A minority of members from the bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) at the International Criminal Court (ICC) are calling for the findings of a judges‘ report, which found no evidence of misconduct against ICC prosecutor Karim Khan, to be ignored, Middle East Eye can reveal.

MEE reported exclusively on Saturday that the court’s chief prosecutor had been cleared of any wrongdoing by a panel of three senior judges appointed by the bureau of the ASP, the ICC’s governing body, to review the findings of a United Nations investigation into complaints of alleged sexual misconduct.

Tell Democrats in Congress to Insist That Schumer and Jeffries Step Aside

The Democratic leadership in Congress has failed to provide real leadership against a war-crazed Trump administration. Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries have not acted to prevent war on Venezuela or the current war on Iran. They worked to delay a vote on Iran until after the war had started, while failing to clearly oppose it before or after the launch of the war. Schumer and Jeffries have shown that they cannot be trusted to prevent more wars, more threats of wars, or the transfer of another half a trillion dollars a year into the war machine.

It’s time for congressional Democrats to replace Schumer and Jeffries with leaders who are willing and able to challenge the runaway militarism that has dragged our country into launching yet another insanely destructive war.

The form below enables you to quickly send a clear message to the Democrat(s) who represent you in the House and/or Senate.

Coalition of Antiwar Groups Launches National Campaign Calling for Jeffries and Schumer to Step Aside from Leadership

A coalition of antiwar groups launched a national campaign Wednesday for constituents to urge Democrats in Congress to remove Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Chuck Schumer from their posts as minority leaders.

The coalition includes RootsAction and Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace network, as well as World BEYOND War and the Progressive Democrats of America – Greater Middle East Alliance.

“Schumer and Jeffries have failed their party and country through wobbly leadership when firmness and clarity are needed in opposing a reckless and costly war,” said Jeff Cohen, cofounder of RootsAction. “The Democratic base sees a weak and confused party leadership as Trump demands billions more to attack Iran. While the party needs strong leaders in Congress, both Schumer and Jeffries have shown that they’re not up to the job.”

IEA Member countries to carry out largest ever oil stock release amid market disruptions from Middle East conflict

IEA members hold emergency stockpiles of over 1.2 billion barrels, with a further 600 million barrels of industry stocks held under government obligation. The coordinated stock release is the sixth in the history of the IEA, which was created in 1974. Previous collective actions were taken in 1991, 2005, 2011, and twice in 2022.

The conflict in the Middle East that began on 28 February 2026 has impeded oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, with export volumes of crude and refined products currently at less than 10% of pre-conflict levels. This is forcing operators across the region to shut in or curtail a substantial amount of production.

An average of 20 million barrels per day of crude oil and oil products transited the Strait of Hormuz in 2025, or around 25% of the world’s seaborne oil trade. Options for oil flows to bypass the Strait of Hormuz are limited.

Getting Your Party Back on Track

Getting Your Party back on track means campaigning tirelessly on the issues that matter most to people, from the cost-of-living to opposing racism and war.

But it also means empowering Your Party members to organise most effectively and make decisions collectively. For that, we need iron-clad democratic commitments that ensure all members can play their full part — not democratic posturing behind which small sects seek outsized influence.

So here are The Many’s six priorities to build a truly member-led party:

1. Set Up Official Branches — so all members can get organised.

2. Defend OMOV — so all members get to decide, not the sects.

3. Establish Members’ Policy Commissions — so policies are shaped by the people they will affect.

4. Review the Finances and Data — so all members can have trust, nothing off limits.

5. Organise the Liberation Sections — so members from every background are empowered.

6. Report Back Monthly — so the collective leadership is accountable to all members, not just itself.

Everything that happened on day 2 of Your Party Scottish conference

(February 8, 2026)

This saw members vote by 62% for a collective leadership of YPS, rejecting either a single leader or two co-leaders.

It was also decided by 59% that YPS will move towards being an organisationally independent party albeit still working in alliance with Your Party in England and Wales.

Other decisions included the direct election of YPS national officers, term limits for officer positions, dual membership of other socialist parties is allowed, and affiliation of unions is permitted.

(…)

By 70%, conference voted to stand YPS candidates in the Holyrood elections.

Corbyn and Sultana are neck-and-neck in the race to lead Your Party

(February 4, 2026)

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s slates are at level pegging in the battle to lead Your Party, with less than a week until the organisation holds internal elections.

The endorsement phase – in which members were able to endorse candidates they wish to see on the ballot for elections to Your Party’s central executive committee – closed on Thursday 29 January. Corbyn’s slate – The Many – are leading in 12 seats, while Grassroots Left, which Sultana is attached to, are leading in 10.

Ending GOP Authoritarianism Will Require Overcoming the Democratic Leadership

(January 20, 2026)

A key reason is a reality that Sen. Bernie Sanders described soon after Trump’s 2016 win: “Certainly there are some people in the Democratic Party who want to maintain the status quo. They would rather go down with the Titanic so long as they have first-class seats.”

Democratic Party leaders should be removed from seats of party power or bypassed as relics of bygone eras. Their ongoing refusals to distance from corporate power, rich elites, and militarism have alienated much of the party’s base.

As I wrote in my free new book The Blue Road to Trump Hell, “The Democratic Party enabled Donald Trump to become president twice because of repetition compulsions that still plague the top echelons of the party.” To eject Republicans from power – and to advance a strong progressive agenda – true leadership must come from grassroots mobilization.

Announcing: The Socialist Leadership Programme

In Your Party, we have to do things differently. That’s why The Many is announcing the Socialist Leadership Programme: If we are elected to Your Party’s Central Executive Committee, we will establish this programme to identify, educate and train a new generation of working-class socialist leaders.

These are leaders who will represent the full breath of our coalition: Old and young, from all faiths and none, and from every corner of Britain. Leaders built up not from Westminster and the professional political class, but from community campaigns, workplace struggles, and social movements. Leaders who won’t just posture, but will build real power.

How Do We Beat the Far Right? With Unity

We need an alternative – and this requires more than just a different policy position. It requires a new kind of politics: one that harnesses the unifying power of solidarity to defeat the divisive tactic of scapegoating. One that unites working class people in all their diversity and empowers communities to wage campaigns where they live and work. One that stops treating politics as something that is done to people – and starts treating politics as something that is done by people.

This imperative led to the birth of Your Party. The surge of community-based victories in recent years – from the remarkable success of independent candidates in the 2024 general election, to the blossoming of local community independent groups in councils all over the country – demonstrated a demand for an alternative to the failed establishment politics.

Corbyn will be Your Party parliamentary leader if his slate wins CEC election, allies say

JEREMY CORBYN will be elected parliamentary leader for Your Party if his slate wins the central executive committee election next month, his allies say.

If the list of candidates headed by the former Labour Party leader, called The Many, clinch the nomination on February 26, Zarah Sultana’s “parliamentary convener” model would not see the light of day.

ELECTION OF THE CEC

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) will be the team elected by members to lead and run Your Party day-to-day — overseeing staff and resources, guiding our strategy, and putting decisions from the founding conference into action. Following members’ decision at our founding conference, it will also act as the collective leadership of Your Party, with the Chair, Vice Chair, and Spokesperson in particular serving as the public political leadership.

Our first CEC elections begin in January 2026 and will be open to all verified members, using a one-member-one-vote system with both digital and postal options. Once voting concludes in February 2026, the newly elected CEC will take on the responsibility of steering the party forward. The full timetable is below and the rules for the election here.

Members voting online have now chosen to keep the ‘Your Party’ name permanently, with 37.06 per cent voting in favour on a 30 per cent turnout. Almost 17,000 members voted on the name.

Your Party votes to be led by members rather than single MP – avoiding Corbyn-Sultana battle

A Your Party spokesperson said: „This vote shows that we really are doing politics differently: from the bottom-up, not the top-down.

„In Westminster, we have a professional political class increasingly disconnected from ordinary people, serving corporations and billionaires instead of the communities they are supposed to represent.

„With a truly member-led party, we will offer something different: democratic, grassroots, accountable.“
