‘I Wouldn’t Call It a War,’ Says JD Vance After 6 Months of Trump’s Failed, Costly, and Illegal War on Iran

Despite fresh US airstrikes on Iranian military targets this week acknowledged by Trump and the Pentagon and the US bombing of a wedding Tuesday night—an attack that killed at least five Iranian civilians, including a 6-year-old child, and wounded nearly 70 others—Vance told reporters, “Right now, there’s no active shooting.”

In the very next breath, Vance said, “I recognize there have been places where this has flared up,” but contended that “major combat operations only lasted about six weeks,” as a way to make a case that “war” is not taking place.

Iran Red Crescent urges ICC probe into deadly US strike on wedding party

The Iranian Red Crescent Society has asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate a missile attack by the United States that hit a wedding party in the southern town of Kuhestak, killing at least four people and wounding dozens.

In a letter to the court on Wednesday, the humanitarian group said the attack warrants “an independent, impartial, thorough, and effective investigation” given the “civilian character of the location”.

Merkley criticizes Trump’s 6-month Iran war while urging War Powers vote

(August 31, 2026)

In his address, Merkley outlined the severe consequences of the conflict, saying it has failed to control nuclear materials while at the same time has strengthened Iranian hardliners, fractured alliances, and enriched Russia. He also highlighted the human and military costs, pointing to deaths and injuries among U.S. service members and depleted domestic munitions.

Since the start of the war on February 28th, 18 service members have died and 757 have been wounded. Furthermore, Merkley warned that the war is financially pressing Americans against the wall as skyrocketing gas, diesel, and fertilizer prices hit families and farmers hard.

What do we know about the fatal US bombing of a wedding in Iran’s Sirik?

The city of Kuhestak, located in southern Iran’s Sirik County in Hormozgan province, close to the Strait of Hormuz, was the target of multiple overnight attacks by the United States military, with local sources and authorities saying a wedding ceremony was struck.

The Hormozgan governor’s office on Wednesday identified four victims as four-year-old Amir Ali Karimi, 16-year-old Mohammad Malahi, 43-year-old Kolsoum Malahi and 43-year-old Zarkhatoun Taheri. More than 60 others were wounded, some seriously.

Israel is a rogue nation. It should be removed from the United Nations

(October 15, 2024)

Over the past year, Israel has launched attacks on multiple countries and occupied territories: the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran.

Yet countries and territories aside, Israel has also targeted one specific organization with a series of unprecedented rhetorical and violent attacks.

Yes, the United Nations. We have all witnessed Israel, in effect, declare war on the UN.

Deutschland muss Aussetzung des EU-Israel-Abkommens zustimmen

(May 8, 2026)

EU faces criticism for secret police data talks with Israel: Report

(August 15, 2026)

The European Commission has been negotiating a secret agreement to share sensitive personal data with Israel’s police service, despite internal legal warnings that the deal could violate international law and put Palestinians at risk, according to a new report by civil rights group Statewatch published by Novara Media, Anadolu reports.

The draft agreement, originally negotiated with the European police agency Europol, would allow the exchange of biometric data, genetic information, location data, political views, and personal details.

Critical research indicates the deal has progressed despite a 2022 ruling by the Council of the EU’s Legal Service which deemed the proposal legally untenable.

EU Moves to Share Data With Israel That ‘Could Be Used to Kill Palestinians’

(August 4, 2026)

Under the plans, the bloc’s law enforcement agency, Europol, would exchange sensitive personal information about Palestinians with Israel’s police force, which is headquartered in the illegally occupied West Bank.

There is also concern the deal could harm members of the Palestinian diaspora, with a risk that activists in Europe could be targeted.

The data would include names, identification numbers, locations, genetic and biometric information and details about people’s political views, beliefs and personal lives.

New aircraft carrier heads toward Mideast after reports of issues on long-deployed USS Lincoln

The Lincoln originally deployed Nov. 21 from San Diego, and it arrived in the Middle East in January, ahead of the launch of the Iran war on Feb. 28. The Navy conceded that the conflict created a „highly contested environment where traditional supply hubs in the Middle East were disrupted by combat actions.“ That, in turn, led to shortages and loss of mail aboard the aircraft carrier, the Navy said in a statement.

„Leadership prioritized mission-critical supplies: first food, then hygiene items, then mail,“ the statement said, before assuring that sailors aboard the ship now have access to clean water and „healthy meal options.“

President Pezeshkian: Iran never acted outside international law

(August 12, 2026)

In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said Iran had never sought regional unrest and denounced the United States and the Israeli regime for undermining regional peace and stability through aggression against Iran and attacks that led to the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and a large number of civilians, including defenseless Minab children in their classrooms, as well as destroying civilian infrastructure.

Pezeshkian expressed hope that Japan’s diplomatic efforts to establish peace and stability in the region would bear fruit and prevent crimes and warmongering by aggressive powers.

Reopening Strait of Hormuz is a humanitarian imperative

It is worth recalling that the conflict did not begin over disputes about the Strait of Hormuz. As recently as February 28, commercial ships transited the waterway without restriction.

(…)

With the US maintaining the naval blockade during the ceasefire period, Iran responded by stopping and, in several cases, attacking vessels attempting to cross the Strait without its approval. Insurance rates spiked, shipping lines rerouted around the Cape of Good Hope, and transit times increased by up to three weeks.

Wars of this nature benefit no party in the long term, and they rarely reach a logical conclusion. Their primary victims are innocent civilians who have no role in the conflict. Many civilians in Iran and Lebanon have lost their lives directly to strikes.

Iran’s leaders show a united front over the war but are divided over what the goal is

On one side, the ultra-hardliners who oppose any negotiations with the United States are pressing for total victory in the war. Known as the “Paydari” movement – Persian for “stability” – they are hard-core ideologues who want to enforce the Islamic Republic’s control over society.

On the other, those who support President Masoud Pezeshkian and powerful parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf — who doubles as Iran’s chief negotiator — see military pressure as a way to win a negotiated deal with the United States. This camp is also spurred by concern over the economic toll Iran is suffering from the war and the need to adapt to social change in the country.

Trump ‚Planning for Wider War‘ in Iran—With Possible Ground Invasion—as US Bombing Escalates

An unnamed US official told The Washington Post on Sunday that the Trump administration is „planning for a wider war“ in Iran, though the official warned that US forces likely lack the weapons capacity to „safely sustain operations.“ The official said they don‘t believe that „the White House is aware of that.“

The anonymous official‘s comments corroborated reporting last week indicating that Trump, who has not sought or received congressional authorization for the Iran war, is leaning toward expanding the assault, possibly with ground forces.

„Trump hosted a Situation Room meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the potential seizure of Kharg Island and other territory along the Strait of Hormuz using US troops, as well as the potential bombing of a tunnel complex at Pickaxe Mountain, a nuclear-linked site the US has yet to target,“ The Wall Street Journal reported. „Expanding airstrikes against more targets in Iran, including energy sites, also remains a possibility.“

‘Counting down minutes to ground invasion’: Iran dares US as renewed conflict enters 10th day

Iran on Monday dared the United States to attempt a ground invasion of the country as renewed hostilities entered their 10th day.

(July 16, 2026)

The escalating pattern of U.S. strikes against southern Iran in recent days – particularly over the past several hours – may point to a gradual strategy aimed at preparing the ground for a potential deployment of ground forces. Such an operation, if it were to materialize, could be intended to seize control of Iran’s southern coastal belt in order to remove Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Why has Iran’s air defence network failed so badly?

(March 3, 2026)

For long-range defence, Iran has developed the Bavar-373 which has comparable capabilities to the Russian S-300. For short range air defence, the country has reverse engineered the Chinese HQ-7 as the Ya Zahr, and in 2021 the Zoubin system was unveiled.

Besides these copy cat systems, the country also leans on ageing Russian air defences, most notably the S-300PMU-2 battery.

However, Israel destroyed a significant number of these components in October 2024 and again during the 12-Day War the following year. Worse still, the Israeli Defence Forces learned all they can about the system in 2015 during joint air drills with Greece, which formerly operated its predecessor, the S-300PMU-1.

The exercise allowed Israel to develop comprehensive electronic warfare (EW) technologies specifically designed to compromise radars like those used with S-300 batteries: the Icebreaker missile and Haroop loitering munitions.
