On Monday morning, the Knesset House Committee is slated to hear arguments in an unusual debate that will determine the political future of Communist lawmaker Ofer Cassif, from the Hadash-Ta’al parliamentary faction.
If the hearing goes badly for Cassif, he could soon face an unprecedented vote in the Knesset plenum to expel him from the legislative body, the result of his far-right MKs anger over his public support for a South African petition to the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
Four years ago, lawmakers attempted to gather the required signatures to bring similar charges against Hadash leader MK Ayman Odeh, but the effort never made it to the committee stage.

Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has urged the UK to place “maximum pressure” on Israel to end its campaign on Gaza and the Lebanese border.
In a meeting with UK Foreign Minister David Cameron on Thursday, Mikati warned that the “Israeli provocations in southern Lebanon could lead to deteriorating conditions and a full-scale war in the region as a whole.”
Nearly 20,000 people have been killed in Gaza, 70% of whom are women and children. More than 50,000 have been wounded. The UN Security Council may soon vote on a resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities & the release of all hostages. The U.S. must vote YES.

Einfach so, ohne Beleg, nicht dank eigener Recherche, sondern mit Berufung auf (nicht genannte) Dritte. Eine Rückfrage beim Autor ergab: Er beruft sich auf Äußerungen des früheren Mitherausgebers Lieb, die in diesem Artikel zitiert werden. Beklagt wird beispielsweise, dass wir auf den NachDenkSeiten in Bezug auf manche Personen von „Einflussagenten“ sprechen und die CIA für sehr einflussreich auch hierzulande halten. Inhaltlich geht es dabei um die auf den NachDenkSeiten gelegentlich bezweifelte Souveränität unseres Landes. Furthermore, we call on your administration to ensure that all future foreign assistance to Israel, including weapons and equipment, is not used in support of gross violations of human rights, including by strengthening end-use monitoring and financial tracking. We ask that you respond with a detailed plan as to how the administration plans to achieve that goal.
Progressive Democrats Plan to Make Strongest Statement Yet Against Netanyahu’s Far-right Government
The progressive lawmakers are further urging the Biden administration to ensure U.S. taxpayer funds are not supporting Israeli settlements projects, and to determine whether U.S. military aid is in violation of the Arms Export Control Act or the so-called “Leahy Laws.”
The Arms Export and Controls Act stipulates that U.S. weapons are sold only for legitimate self-defense, while the Leahy Law prohibits U.S. funding from being used to equip or train foreign military forces suspected of human rights abuses or war crimes.
