@RepAOC @AOC defends Rep. @Ilhan Omar: „Don’t tell me this is about consistency. Don’t tell me that this is about a condemnation of anti-Semitic remarks…This is about targeting women of color in the United States of America.“
See Omar’s fiery speech as GOP votes to remove her from committee
The Republican-led House of Representatives voted to pass a resolution to remove Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
House Republicans vote to oust Democrat Ilhan Omar from key committee, citing Israel comments
The Republican-led House voted after raucous debate Thursday to oust Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from the chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee, citing her anti-Israel comments, in a dramatic response after Democrats in the last session booted far-right GOP lawmakers over incendiary remarks.
These 6 House Democrats voted against the infrastructure bill. These 13 Republicans voted for it.
A number of progressives — who have consistently called for both the infrastructure and the separate economic package, known as the Build Back Better Act, to move together — voted „no“ on the legislation.
Here are the six House Democrats who broke from their party to vote against the bill:
Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York
Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York
Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota
Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts
Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan
Democrats say we are the party of the people, let’s show by passing this crucial agenda on behalf of the people & fulfill our promise to our constituents. This level of investment hasn’t been proposed or implemented since the 1930s. Let’s have @POTUS ’ back & pass this agenda
Rep. Ilhan Omar Calls on Biden to Pardon Daniel Hale for Drone Leak
In a letter sent to the White House on Thursday, Omar said the information Hale revealed, “while politically embarrassing to some, has shone a vital light on the legal and moral problems of the drone program and informed the public debate on an issue that has for too many years remained in the shadows.”
This constant cycle of violence and retribution is a failed policy and will not make any of us safer. Congress has authority over War Powers and should be consulted before any escalation.
House PROGRESSIVES just reelected Nancy Pelosi. Only corporate Democrats voted against her. #ForceTheVote was our best chance for a House vote on Medicare for all. The Democratic Party cannot be reformed. It’s time for a #PeoplesParty!

Die 80-Jährige wurde gestern bei der konstituierenden Sitzung der Kongresskammer mit knapper Mehrheit für zwei weitere Jahre im Amt bestätigt.
Pelosi wins Speakership for fourth time in dramatic vote
Heading into the vote, there were also open questions surrounding the intentions of several incoming progressive lawmakers — including Cori Bush (D-Mo.) and Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) — who had knocked off Democratic incumbents in the primaries and had declined to forecast how they’d vote in the Speaker’s race.
In the end, however, those newcomers declined to go after Pelosi, citing a need for Democrats to unite heading into the new Congress.
There’s no reason for a progressive to vote to confirm Pelosi as speaker again without concessions. Period. @AOC @AyannaPressley @IlhanMN @RashidaTlaib @PramilaJayapal @RoKhanna do what we elected you to do and force the vote! #ReplacePelosiJan3 #ForceM4ALLVote
You do realize that not only can the Squad #ForceTheVote on M4A, they can even #ReplacePelosiJan3 with *ZERO RISK* of a GOP Speaker? They need 5-8 holdouts. The GOP doesn’t have the votes. And this isn’t being discussed at all. Why?
Speaking out against violations of international law isn’t partisan issue, it’s also not being on the side of Iran. It’s about balance and not plunging the world into more chaotic state than we are already in.

The Squad Is Here to Stay
With Ilhan Omar’s primary win, the progressive Democratic congresswomen of color known as the Squad have solidified their staying power.
The U.S. Constitution gave Congress the power to establish the USPS, and for the survival of our democracy and everyone who depends on USPS for everything from paychecks to lifesaving medicines, we must use our power to protect it. #SaveTheUSPS
A literal Republican, John Kasich, is going to get more speaking time at the DNC than every member of the squad combined
THIS JUST IN: @IlhanMN joins @AOC and @RashidaTlaib in winning her primary election despite horrible attacks and tremendous amounts of money spent to defeat her. All that energy and all those dollars wasted, ‘cause these ladies aren’t going anywhere.
Rep. Ilhan Omar Introduces Bill to Cancel All Rent and Mortgage Payments During the COVID-19 Pandemic
April 17, 2020
WASHINGTON— Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) unveiled the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, a bill to institute a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. The bill would constitute a full payment forgiveness, with no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners and no negative impact on their credit rating or rental history. The legislation will establish a relief fund for landlords and mortgage holders to cover losses from the cancelled payments and create an optional fund to fully finance the purchase of private rental properties by non-profits, public housing authorities, cooperatives, community land trusts, and states or local governments—in order to increase the availability of affordable housing during this downturn.
And I hear @IlhanMN has a bill to do just that! It’s an opportunity for Congress to help working people in an ambitious and meaningful way.
Revelatory, I know:
Why Are Progressives Voting For Ultimate Screwing Of America?

I do genuinely think it’s an under-discussed story – one that’s quite beautiful – that the only two US Muslim Congresswomen are both vocal and enthusiastic supporters of the candidate who would make history by becoming the first Jewish President in US history.

Ilhan Omar Joins Sanders in N.H., Delivers Message of ‚Radical Love‘
Omar is one of three members of the “squad,” a group of influential Democratic congresswomen, who have endorsed Sanders. She told the crowd that her liberal politics are sometimes labeled “radical” by critics.
“The truth is the only radicalism we are motivated by is radical love,” said Omar. “That’s why we’re calling on everyone to be moved, radically, by love for their neighbors, for their country, for our democracy, and for humanity.”
After I and many progressives cosponsored, the resolution was altered to remove the word “occupation.” It also removed a reference to the “broadly held consensus” on the two state solution. Here is what they took out.

‚Squad‘ members recruit Raskin to run for Oversight gavel
Three members of „The Squad“ — Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) — serve on the Oversight panel. The fourth, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), does not but she called Raskin one of her „favorite“ colleagues and said she could back him for chairman.
Raskin “would be a true leader when it comes to holding this Trump administration accountable and especially a leader on this impeachment inquiry,” Tlaib told The Hill in a brief interview before stepping into a closed-door impeachment hearing.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley holds off on presidential endorsement as colleagues back Bernie Sanders
But Pressley said through a spokesman that endorsements are ultimately decisions “made as individuals.”
“Ayanna has tremendous respect for her sisters-in-service,” said spokesman Harry Shipps, referencing the other congresswomen. “Ayanna knows that taking back the White House in 2020 is a top priority, and she is working every day to hold this administration accountable and build a bold, diverse movement that will help propel Democrats to victory up and down the ballot.”

Congress: Ilhan Omar urges Twitter to take down Trump’s false tweet
In fact, the video accompanying the tweet of Omar dancing was from a Sept. 13 Congressional Black Caucus event. Omar later rebuked the president for his rhetoric and Twitter for failing to take down the post. “The President of the United States is continuing to spread lies that put my life at risk. What is Twitter doing to combat this misinformation?” she tweeted.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed Williams has deleted his tweet, but the company did not comment on the president’s post. Omar told POLITICO she’s „still getting threats“ because of Trump’s retweet.

Tell the Democrats: Refuse to Travel to Israel Until the Government Allows Rashida and Ilhan In
Tell Democrats in Congress to commit to not traveling to Israel until Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar are allowed to enter by signing on to our petition right now.
Progressive champions like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Marc Pocan have already committed to not visiting Israel until all members of congress can visit — we need the rest of the Democrats in Congress to do the same.
Israel approves Tlaib request to visit grandmother in West Bank
Tlaib said in her humanitarian request that the visit may be her last chance to see her grandmother, adding that she would not promote boycotts of Israel while in the region.
„This could be my last opportunity to see her. I will respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit,” she wrote, according to The Guardian.
Barring two U.S. lawmakers from Israel is un-Israeli. Trump’s cheering for it is un-American.
As for the principle that elected representatives of the American people should be able to travel where they like — the principle enunciated a few weeks ago by Ron Dermer, Israel’s ambassador in Washington — Mr. Trump has made his rejoinder clear: Principles are for suckers. How many dictators are rejoicing today that a U.S. president has given them full permission to bar members of Congress who in the future might want to visit their countries to monitor elections or speak up for human rights?
Netanyahu Banned Omar And Tlaib Because The Occupation Must Be Hidden To Survive
Most officials of mainstream American Jewish organizations have never been to the places Tlaib and Omar planned to go. They’ve never talked to Palestinians whose homes are about to be bulldozed because they lack the building permits that, as non-citizens under military rule, they can’t get. They’ve never heard Palestinian parents explain the terror they feel when Israeli soldiers come in the middle of the night to take their children to be interrogated, often for days, in the absence of a lawyer.
Trump and Netanyahu Just Broke the Special Relationship Between America and Israel
Make no mistake about it, while Trump’s motivation was in part political, it was also motivated by the racist animus that drives Trumpism in the U.S. and, as it happens, shapes the ethno-nationalist views of Netanyahu and his extreme-right wing supporters in Israel.
Israeli Decision on Omar and Tlaib Inflames Politics in Two Countries
By enlisting a foreign power to take action against two American citizens, let alone elected members of Congress, Mr. Trump crossed a line that other presidents have not, in effect exporting his partisan battles beyond the country’s borders. And he demonstrated the lengths that he will go to to target his domestic opponents, in this case two of the congresswomen of color he has sought to make the face of the Democratic Party heading into his re-election campaign.
One thing that is completely undeniable about Bernie Sanders is the enormous political courage he consistently wields on behalf of others. This statement is a big deal. He’s not just standing up for two members – he’s standing for the integrity of the entire US Congress.

2020 Democrats urge Israel to reverse decision banning Omar, Tlaib visit
Former Vice President Joe Biden, widely seen as the Democratic Party’s primary frontrunner, condemned Israel’s move to ban the lawmakers‘ entry and took a shot at Trump for encouraging the country to do so.
„I have always been a stalwart supporter of Israel—a vital partner that shares our democratic values. No democracy should deny entry to visitors based on the content of their ideas—even ideas they strongly object to. And no leader of the free world should encourage them to do so,“ Biden tweeted.
Israel verbietet muslimischen US-Abgeordneten Einreise
@RashidaTlaib @IlhanMN I am blessed to serve alongside you and your voices & leadership matter deeply my sisters. We won’t stand for this.
I’m calling this like I see it: bigoted, short sighted and cruel. Any leader committed to advancing democracy would welcome with open arms two democratically elected United States Congresswomen. And every single member of Congress should be calling this out.
Netanyahu Backtracks After Pressure From Trump, Bars Omar, Tlaib From Entering Israel
Barring Congresswoman would greatly damage Israel’s relations with Democratic party, Israeli diplomats warn ■ Trump tweets allowing their visit is ‚great show of weakness‘
Israel bars Democratic congresswomen from entering country
The spokesman did not specify when the decision was made or who made the final decision, but the announcement comes shortly after US President Donald Trump said Israel would be showing „great weakness“ by allowing them to enter the country.
‘The Squad’ Is the Future of the Democratic Party
The squad has tilled new ground in reanimating a fighting spirit within the Democratic Party and revived its left flank. A more timid approach would have been to go to Washington and blend in. The women’s approach is admirably and courageously to stand out.
Ilhan Omar Posts Instagram Picture With Nancy Pelosi in Africa: ‚They Said „Send Her Back“ But…She Went Back With Me‘
Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar posted to Instagram a picture with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from a trip they took together to Africa to send a pointed message to President Donald Trump after his recent „go back“ tweet.
How ‘the Squad’ learned to handle Trump’s attacks
Amid the Squad mania over the past few weeks, aides said they had rejected pitches for photo shoots from two fashion magazines.
The ultimate goal, the lawmakers say, is to harness Trump’s negative messages about them into something potentially positive — a bigger platform to press their agenda.
Nigel Farage: Donald Trump’s ‚go back‘ remarks to ‚the Squad were genius‘
Mr Farage added: „I thought, ‚Dear, oh dear, oh dear‘. You realise, 48 hours on, it was genius because what’s happened is the Democrats gather round the Squad, which allows him to say, ‚Oh look, the Squad are the centre of the Democratic Party‘.
„He’s remarkably good at what he does.
„He does things his way. But he is a remarkably effective operator.“
Ilhan Omar: It Is Not Enough to Condemn Trump’s Racism
People identified me in ways that were foreign to me: immigrant, black. I learned that these identities carried stigmas, and I experienced prejudice as a visibly Muslim woman.
But the beauty of this country is not that our democracy is perfect. It’s that embedded in our Constitution and democratic institutions are the tools to make it better.
Having a seat in Congress is not about individual glory – it never has been, and never will be. It’s about serving the millions of children and people in our communities and across the country. Everyone deserves the dignity of representation. America belongs to us all.
How 4 congresswomen came to be called “the Squad”
The way they’re using the term “squad” now is drawing support on social media and elsewhere, which in turn puts pressure on Democratic Party leaders to take them and their message seriously, Dittmar said. Voters, she explained, are saying, “that’s the squad I want to be a part of.”
Axios declines to comment on anonymous poll cited by President Trump
(16.07.2019)
The piece reports that the poll was taken in May and that it “included 1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education.” An important constituency, in other words.
Absent, however, is any indication of who did the poll, who commissioned it, how it was conducted, what the questions were, what its other results were and so on.
unfucking real. House Democrats paid for AND leaked to Axios a poll of 1000 white people without a college education to find a poll that says AOC, Ilhan, Tlaib et al are bad. What a fucking joke leadership is

Progressive Democratic lawmakers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Presley talked with „CBS This Morning“ co-host Gayle King in their only joint network interview, speaking about President Trump’s incendiary tweets about them and the state of their sometimes tense relationship with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Donald Trump Is Deliberately Distorting What Ilhan Omar Says About America
A Fox headline read: “Ilhan Omar on Trump voters: ‘Ignorance really is pervasive in many parts of this country.’” The Blaze announced, “Ilhan Omar insults Republican voters: ‘Ignorance really is pervasive in many parts of this country.’”
But what Omar was actually talking about was the way in which politicians, in this case Republican politicians, manipulate information to achieve political ends.
Just asked Omar about the chants, and she says of Trump: „I believe he is a fascist.“ Responding to Lindsey Graham, who said if she were wearing a MAGA hat Trump wouldn’t have said ‚go back:‘ „Because I criticized the president, I should be deported?“
Home sweet home!!

WELCOME BACK ILHAN: Crowd at MN airport chant support for Omar
A welcome party is gathering at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to celebrate Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s return to the state following recent rhetoric by President Donald Trump.
Part of the #Squad? Raise your hand and tell this racist Administration to #CloseTheCamps:
Trump knows that when we stand together and fight for racial, social, economic and environmental justice, we have the power to defeat him. So the demagogue is doing what he knows best: Divide and conquer through hate. His attacks only make us stronger. #IStandWithIlhan
This horrifying chant does not make America great. In fact, it is eerily reminiscent of a darker time in our nation’s history.
Trump’s ‚Go Home‘ Invective Echoes Nazi Incitement Against Jews
As with Israel’s Likud and their leader Netanyahu, but a thousand times over, Trump’s invectives highlight the moral depths to which the Republican party has sunk: It has transformed from a Grand Old Party into a cheerleading squad that prostrates itself before its master, no matter what he says or does. Whether out of fear or hope for favor or both, the Republicans’ feebleness also echoes the conduct of similarly spineless political parties, which facilitated but later succumbed to the most evil tyrants of the 20th Century.
This is the sound of illberalism, intolerance. Listen closely: it’s a danger not just to immigrants and minorities but to all Americans. Put politics aside. Time for leaders from all parts of society, people from all walks of life, to step up and say: enough.
American Jewish institutions need to stop smearing Ilhan Omar and instead defend her from the fascist in the White House who is trying to get her killed.
You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise. -Maya Angelou

The measure is a chance for Democrats to go on offense, and put Republicans on the record either rejecting or endorsing what the president said.
While some Democrats are pressing for a stronger resolution of censure, House leaders have opted instead for a narrower measure based on Mr. Trump’s latest remarks, in an effort to generate a unanimous vote in their party.

Four progressive congresswomen of color responded to attacks by President Donald Trump, saying his “blatantly racist” assault on them is nothing more than a distraction.
116TH CONGRESS 1ST SESSION H. RES. Condemning President Trump’s racist comments directed at Members of Congress.
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) believes that immigrants and their descendants have made America stronger, and that those who take the oath of citizenship are every bit as American as those whose families have lived in the United States for many generations;
(2) is committed to keeping America open to those lawfully seeking refuge and asylum from violence and oppression, and those who are willing to work hard to live the American Dream, no matter their race, ethnicity, faith, or country of origin; and
(3) strongly condemns President Donald Trump’s racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color by saying that our fellow Americans who are immigrants, and those who may look to the President like immigrants, should ‘‘go back’’ to other countries, by referring to immigrants and asylum seekers as ‘‘invaders,’’ and by saying that Members of Congress who are immigrants (or those of our colleagues who are wrongly assumed to be immigrants) do not belong in Congress or in the United States of America.
House to vote on resolution condemning Trump’s ‚racist comments‘
The House on Tuesday will vote on a disapproval resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s ‚racist comments‘ in which he said that a group of freshmen congresswomen of color should „go back“ where „they came“ from.
The resolution twice refers to ‚racist comments‘ from Trump but it does not call the president a racist.
Two GOP lawmakers back Trump’s comments on Democratic lawmakers: ‚I’ll pay for their tickets out of this country‘
Multiple GOP lawmakers criticized President Trump on Monday after he tweeted that four Democratic congresswomen of color should “go back” to their home countries, but at least two congressional Republicans backed up his comments.
Ocasio-Cortez condemns congressional Republicans for ’spineless complicity‘
„For hours, we waited for a single Republican in Congress to condemn Trump’s brazenly racist comments, but all we heard was a deafening silence — complicity,“ Ocasio-Cortez wrote in an email to supporters.
„Not a single Republican in Congress unequivocally disavowed Trump telling four American Congresswoman to go back to their countries, displaying tacit approval for Trump’s naked racism,“ she added.

Yet another example of Trump’s ignorance & disdain for the values that truly make America great. His comments that 4 US citizen Members of Congress should “go back” to the countries they came from is further evidence he does not belong in the White House.

Trump steps up attacks on progressive congresswomen, says they ‚hate our country‘ and Israel
„These are people that hate our country,“ he said. „They hate it, I think, with a passion. Now it’s possible I’m wrong. The voter will decide. But when I hear the way they talk about our country — when I hear the anti-Semitic language they use, when I hear the hatred they have for Israel — and the love they have for enemies like al Qaeda — then you know what? I will tell you that I do not believe this is good for the Democrat Party.“
Asked if he was concerned that his comments were being seen as racist, giving white nationalists a reason to find common cause with him, Trump said, „It doesn’t concern me because many people agree with me. All I’m saying is that if they want to leave, they can leave. It doesn’t say leave forever.“
Republican Jewish Coalition: Democratic congresswomen Trump targeted are communists who hate Jews and America
The Republican Jewish Coalition also agrees with Graham. It tweeted a clip of his statement, made to Fox News, and wrote “He isn’t wrong.”
Asked to elaborate, an RJC spokesman wrote to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “we simply believe that everything Senator Graham says in this clip is correct, both in fact and sentiment.”
Graham declines to condemn racist Trump tweets and calls Democratic congresswomen ‚a bunch of communists‘
„Well, we all know that (New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) and this crowd are a bunch of communists, they hate Israel, they hate our own country,“ Graham said during an appearance on „Fox and Friends.“ „They’re calling the guards along our border, the border patrol agents, ‚concentration camp guards.‘ They accuse people who support Israel of doing it for the Benjamins. They’re anti-Semitic. They’re anti-America.“
When @realDonaldTrump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to “Make America Great Again” has always been about making America white again. Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power.
Trump Tells Freshman Congresswomen to ‘Go Back’ to the Countries They Came From
Only one of the women, Ms. Omar, who is from Somalia, was born outside the United States. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx to parents of Puerto Rican descent. Ms. Pressley, who is black, was born in Cincinnati and raised in Chicago. And Ms. Tlaib was born in Detroit to Palestinian immigrants.
Trump Tweets Ugly Nativist Attack on Foreign-Born Democrats Telling Them to ‘Go Back’ Where They Came From
In a series of tweets no doubt aimed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI) Donald Trump said she should go back to the country where she was born and fix the corruption there instead of criticizing his immigration policies.
With ICE Raids Expected to Begin Sunday, Message From AOC, Bernie Sanders, and Others is Clear: ‚Know Your Rights‘
Sanders is using his large mailing list to „target a message to supporters that may be impacted by the upcoming enforcement raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.“
It is clear that ICE isn’t being held accountable; the agency must be abolished. We cannot be complicit in the militarization of our southern border. People who come to our country in search of a better life should be treated with humanity and respect.
Tensions Between Pelosi and Progressive Democrats of ‘the Squad’ Burst Into Flame
Six months into the new House Democratic majority, long-simmering tensions between the speaker and the squad — Representatives Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — have boiled over in the most public of ways, setting off a flurry of criticism of Ms. Pelosi among liberal activists and reinvigorating a debate within the party about how best to stand up to President Trump.

Why is Nancy Pelosi slamming AOC and helping Trump?
Pelosi’s criticism came after a June 25 vote in which the four were the only Democrats to oppose a House bill to provide funding for the crisis at the southern border because as they put it in a statement, „in good conscience, we cannot support this supplemental funding bill, which gives even more money to ICE and CBP and continues to support a fundamentally cruel and broken immigration system.“
Pelosi on disagreement with Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Tlaib, Pressley: ‚They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got‘
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in an interview with a New York Times opinion columnist, said that despite their popularity, progressive congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) each only get one vote.
Pelosi’s comments follow a recent split between the four lawmakers and more moderate House Democrats over a House-passed spending measure aimed at helping migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
And I urge the American people to make your voice heard. Organize. Call your member of Congress. Let all our leaders know that a war with Iran would be a catastrophe. #NoWarOnIran
Venezuela coup linked to Bush team
(21. April 2002)
The Bush administration has tried to distance itself from the coup. It immediately endorsed the new government under businessman Pedro Carmona. But the coup was sent dramatically into reverse after 48 hours.
Now officials at the Organisation of American States and other diplomatic sources, talking to The Observer, assert that the US administration was not only aware the coup was about to take place, but had sanctioned it, presuming it to be destined for success.
2002 Venezuelan coup d’état attempt
The Venezuelan coup d’état attempt of 2002 was a failed coup d’état on 11 April 2002 that saw President Hugo Chávez ousted from office for 47 hours before being restored to power. Chávez, who had been elected in 2000, was aided in his return to power by overwhelming popular support and mobilization against the coup and assistance of loyalists in the military.[8][unreliable source?]
The situation began on 9 April, when a general strike was called by the trade union organization „National Federation of Trade Unions“, Confederación de Trabajadores de Venezuela (CTV). The proposed strike was in response to Chávez’s appointments to prominent posts in Venezuela’s national oil company, PDVSA.[9] Two days later in Caracas, up to one million Venezuelans marched in opposition to Chávez.[10][11] At one point during the march, opposition leaders redirected the protestors to the presidential palace, Miraflores, where government supporters and Bolivarian Circles were holding their own rally. Upon the opposition’s arrival, the two sides confronted each other. Gunshots rang out, and by that evening 19 people were dead, including both supporters and opponents of the government.[6] Then, the military high command started the coup at Miraflores and demanded that Chávez resign. President Chávez refused to resign, and he subsequently was arrested by the military.[12][13][14] Chávez’s request for asylum in Cuba was denied, and he was ordered to be tried in a Venezuelan court.[9]
Pompeo: The problems in Venezuela have been years in the making
May. 02, 2019 – 7:12 – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responds to Rep. Omar claiming the U.S. is to blame for the turmoil in Venezuela on ‚The Ingraham Angle.
Just as in interventions past, those who oppose war are labeled supporters of dictators and haters of “freedom.” We saw this playbook in Iraq. The situation in Venezuela is dire and the Trump Admin is making it worse. We must support diplomacy, not war.
US Economic Bullying Devastates Venezuela: Illhan Omar Denounces
“A lot of the policies we have put in place have helped lead the devastation in Venezuela. And we’ve set the stage for where we’re arriving today,“ she said and added that „this particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela, and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States.”
Ilhan Omar is a leader with strength and courage. She won’t back down to Trump’s racism and hate, and neither will we. The disgusting and dangerous attacks against her must end.
The full CAIR speech. The part that was taken out of context is at 15:17. Watching the full thing, you can clearly see that she’s talking about all muslim-americans being blamed for 9/11. Never forget that, either. #IStandWithIlhan
WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
Ilhan Omar: progressive Democrats condemn Republican smears and urge party to do the same
Rightwing critics have used an edited clip of the “some people did something” comment to falsely claim that Omar does not believe that September 11 was a terrorist attack, that she downplayed or demeaned the seriousness of the attack, and that she is un-American or not loyal to the United States.
Fox News and the New York Post, both owned by Rupert Murdoch, have devoted high-profile coverage to the misleading claims, including a graphic New York Post cover with her quote and an image of the World Trade Center towers in flames.
More Power To You Miss Omar
Now, young Democratic stars Tulsi Gabbard, Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a feisty congresswoman from Minnesota, Ilhan Omar, have suddenly broken the taboo and said what dared not be said: there is too much rightwing Israeli influence and there must be justice for Palestine.
Libya, Syria, Somalia and Yemen: Calculating the Millions-High Death Toll of America’s Post-9/11 Wars
(26.4.2018)
Altogether, in the three parts of this report, I have estimated that America’s post-9/11 wars have killed about 6 million people. Maybe the true number is only 5 million. Or maybe it is 7 million.
Assad must go, Obama says
(18.8.2011) As Obama issued his statement, the leaders of France, Germany and Britain joined him in calling on Assad “to face the reality of the complete rejection of his regime by the Syrian people and to step aside.”
Obama had spoken to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron over the past two weeks to discuss calling for Assad’s resignation and to coordinate steps on sanctions.
Hillary Clinton: Muammar Gaddafi ‚must go now‘
(2.3.2011) Testifying before the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, Clinton called for an end to the violence in Libya.
She also added that the United States had reserved all its options as it considered additional steps that might be needed to stop Libyan forces from attacking civilians.
Body Count: Casualty Figures after 10 Years of the “War on Terror”
(März 2015)
This investigation comes to the conclusion that the war has, directly or indirectly, killed around 1 million people in Iraq, 220,000 in Afghanistan and 80,000 in Pakistan, i.e. a total of around 1.3 million. Not included in this figure are further war
zones such as Yemen. The figure is approximately 10 times greater than that of which the public, experts and decision makers are aware of and propagated by the media and major NGOs. And this is only a conservative estimate. The total number of deaths in the three countries named above could also be in excess of 2 million, whereas a figure below 1 million is extremely unlikely.
Unworthy victims: Western wars have killed four million Muslims since 1990
(8. April 2015)
In the absence of even the possibility of corroboration, these figures provide plausible estimates based on applying standard statistical methodology to the best, if scarce, evidence available. They give an indication of the scale of the destruction, if not the precise detail.
Much of this death has been justified in the context of fighting tyranny and terrorism. Yet thanks to the silence of the wider media, most people have no idea of the true scale of protracted terror wrought in their name by US and UK tyranny in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Democrats’ Dilemma – What Ilhan Omar and Dean Phillips tell us about the future of the Democratic Party.
As she saw it, the party ostensibly committed to progressive values had become complicit in perpetuating the status quo. Omar says the “hope and change” offered by Barack Obama was a mirage. Recalling the “caging of kids” at the U.S.-Mexico border and the “droning of countries around the world” on Obama’s watch, she argues that the Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework as his Republican successor.
Rep. Omar appears to criticize Obama in latest swipe at Dem establishment
While progressives have criticized Obama in the past, Omar’s comments — on the heels of a tumultuous week that saw her comments on pro-Israel lobbying shake up Congress — serve as another reminder of how the incoming class of rising star Democratic lawmakers is challenging the party’s status quo.
Sanders, Warren, Ocasio-Cortez, and Other Lawmakers Sign Pledge to End America’s “Forever Wars”
“The United States has been in a state of continuous, global, open-ended military conflict since 2001. Over 2.5 million troops have fought in this ‘Forever War’ in over a dozen countries – including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Niger, Somalia, and Thailand,” the pledge reads.
It continues: “I pledge to the people of the United States of America, and to our military community in particular, that I will (1) fight to reclaim Congress’s constitutional authority to conduct oversight of U.S. foreign policy and independently debate whether to authorize each new use of military force, and (2) act to bring the Forever War to a responsible and expedient conclusion.”
The lobbying campaign is possibly the first of its kind since January 2007 — when new Democratic majorities in the House and Senate were sworn in.
Sanders defends Omar: Can’t equate anti-Semitism with ‚legitimate criticism‘ of Israel
(6.3.2019) “Anti-Semitism is a hateful and dangerous ideology which must be vigorously opposed in the United States and around the world. We must not, however, equate anti-Semitism with legitimate criticism of the right-wing, Netanyahu government in Israel. Rather, we must develop an even-handed Middle East policy which brings Israelis and Palestinians together for a lasting peace,” he said in a statement to The Hill.
“What I fear is going on in the House now is an effort to target Congresswoman Omar as a way of stifling that debate,“ he continued. “That’s wrong.”
Sanders, Harris and Warren defend Ilhan Omar amid controversy over Israel comments
Later Wednesday evening, Warren added herself to the list of candidates defending the freshman congresswoman.
„We have a moral duty to combat hateful ideologies in our own country and around the world — and that includes both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia,“ the Massachusetts Democrat said in a statement.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Defends Ilhan Omar, Asks Where Resolutions Are Condemning Homophobia, Racism, Xenophobia
(5.3.2019) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has come to the defense of fellow freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who is facing backlash for her comments about Israel—many of which have been deemed anti-Semitic by Republicans and Democrats alike.
Keep It Up, Ilhan Omar
(7.3.2019) Ilhan Omar is not only one of the first two female Muslim members of the House of Representatives, she may herald a dramatic change in that body. “Hamas has entered the House,” Roseanne Barr was quick to cry out; “A black day for Israel,” tweeted Donald Trump. Neither Hamas nor a black day, but a glimmer of hope on Capitol Hill.
Maybe, for the first time in history, someone will dare tell the truth to the American people, absorbing scathing accusations of anti-Semitism, without bowing her head.
Democrats Put Off Anti-Semitism Resolution After Fierce Backlash
(6.3.2019) The closed-door meeting, the weekly gathering of House Democrats at the Capitol, generally involves discussion of the legislative agenda and political strategy. Instead, according to multiple people present, it turned into a gripe session over the treatment of Ms. Omar by her own party.
What @IlhanMN is doing–taking on major, destructive US foreign policy with refreshing honestly and clarity–is dangerous in Washington DC. She is going to face the full force of both parties because of this. She is a rare voice and deserves our defense. It is going to be ugly.
(5.3.2019)
This is so important. @IlhanMN is a powerful moral voice at time when very few (even progressive) Democrats speak clearly and knowledgeably on foreign policy. She deserves unreserved support. #IStandWithIlhan

We are military veterans and families. We served our country. We stand with @IlhanMN. #VetsForIlhanOmar #VetsVsHate

Trump Blasts Ilhan Omar: ‚Allegiance‘ Remarks a ‚Dark Day for Israel‘
(5.3.2019) A senior Democratic aide said Monday that leading House Democrats will offer a resolution Wednesday, supported by Pelosi, condemning anti-Semitism in response to Omar’s latest remarks on Israel.
It’s at least the third time the Minnesota Democrat’s words have drawn strong accusation of anti-Semitism and the second time in as many months that she’s drawn a stern backlash from party leaders.
Our democracy is built on debate, Congresswoman! I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee. The people of the 5th elected me to serve their interest. I am sure we agree on that!

Rep. Ilhan Omar Praises Jewish-Muslim Cooperation in Combating Bigotry
(29.11.2018) “Like members of the Jewish community, I know how it feels to be hated because of my religious beliefs,” Omar, who has stirred controversy in the Jewish community for attacks on Israel and suggesting she backed the boycott movement against the Jewish state, wrote Monday in an op-ed for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “But we know that we are stronger when we stand united against bigotry and hate.”
Word for Word: Excange between Rep. Ilhan Omar and Elliott Abrams (C-SPAN)
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has a heated exchange with Elliot Abrams, the U.S. special envoy to Venezuela, highlighting his role in the Iran-Contra affair. She says, „I fail to understand why members of this committee or the American people should find any testimony you give today to be truthful.“ The exchange came during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.
U.S. congresswoman @IlhanMN and convicted (then pardoned) Iran-Contra felon Elliott Abrams in an exchange marked by Abrams’ disrespectful interruption of Rep. Omar’s statement. Reclaiming her time!
Omar, Trump envoy Elliott Abrams clash in fiery exchange
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) engaged in a testy back and forth on Wednesday with special envoy to Venezuela Elliott Abrams, accusing the diplomat of being a liar and pressing him on his involvement in the Iran-Contra affair and killings in Central America during the Reagan administration.
American Jews must stand with Ilhan Omar
The right will always use Israel and anti-Semitism as a tool to destroy left-wing movements, especially when they’re led by people of color.
As a Jew, I want to welcome anyone who wants to criticize a lobbying coalition funded by arms manufacturers, evangelical Christians, and allies of the right wing edge of Israeli politics. Criticizing AIPAC is not anti-Semitic and it’s absurd that this even needs to be said.
With that said, it is important to distinguish between criticizing a military action by a government and attacking a particular people of faith. I will not shy away of criticism of any government when I see injustice —whether it be Saudi Arabia, Somalia, even our own government!
(21.1.2019)
Equating @IlhanMN & @RashidaTlaib’s criticism of Israel to Steve King’s long defense of white supremacy is obscene (McCarthy said it’s worse). In the US, we’re allowed to criticize our own government: certainly foreign governments. The GOP House Leader’s priorities are warped.
Kevin McCarthy Promises ‘Action’ Against Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib
(10.2.2019) The Republican leader in the U.S. House of Representatives said he would take action against two Democrats who have sharply criticized Israel if the Democratic majority did not do so.
“If they do not take action I think you’ll see action from myself,” Kevin McCarthy of California, the minority leader, said according to Capitol Hill reporters writing for a number of newspapers. “This cannot sustain itself. It’s unacceptable in this country.”
‘A shattering of the walls’: Muslim women celebrate the swearing in of Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib
(4.1.2018) A group of Christian clergy, including leaders in the United Church of Christ and United Methodist denominations, planned to deliver a welcome letter on Thursday afternoon to the two Muslim representatives signed by 7,000 Christians.
Suleman had a simple summation of what the moment represents:
“I think the message, really, is that this is America.”
Progressives flex muscles as Dems return to Washington
“We have 20 new people that we endorsed elected to Congress, and there’s still a few more that are coming,” Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), the co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), said Monday at a press conference presenting the group’s new members.
Pocan added that the CPC will have more than 90 members in the next Congress, making it the “largest value-based caucus” on the Hill.
History Made as Minorities Elected to Congress
History was made at the U.S. midterm elections when women, African-Americans, Native Americans, Muslims and LGBT minority candidates from both the Democratic and the Republican parties became elected to Congress.
Just wanted to remind everyone of this adorable picture of Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, now the first two Muslim women elected to Congress
Trump Wouldn’t Have Let Her in the Country, But Ilhan Omar Is Likely Joining Congress
Ilhan Omar is humane where Trump is selfish. Ilhan Omar is high-minded where Trump is in the gutter. Let’s hope hers is the future — his the past.
Sister @IlhanMN just WON her Minnesota primary, while outspent as well! I am so proud to join hands with you to November and beyond. She and @RashidaTlaib will be the first Muslim Congresswomen in US history, both elected this year. Congratulations Ilhan, you inspire me.
Ilhan Omar could become first Somali-American in Congress after primary win
Backed in her race by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Omar — who came to the US more than two decades ago as a refugee — would become the first Somali-American member of Congress if she wins the seat being left behind by Rep. Keith Ellison, who is running for state attorney general, in November.
Today is about more than winning, it’s about building a coalition to fight the politics of fear and scarcity. I’m a legislator, a refugee, and a working mom. But above all, I’m an organizer. And I’m ready to organize for the America we deserve. I’m asking you to join me.
Critical of Israel, Embraced by Ocasio-Cortez: Minnesota Muslim Candidate Becomes Target of Alt-right Troll
Like Tlaib and Ellison, Omar, a Somali-American has taken considerable heat for past statements critical of Israel; opposition to her candidacy has grown increasingly confrontational as Tuesday’s primary approaches. On Saturday night, a campaign event for Omar featuring an appearance by Tlaib at the Minneapolis’s Holy Land Deli was disrupted by a group of her opponents, led by right-wing anti-Muslim blogger, former Project Veritas employee and long-time provocateur Laura Loomer, who shouted questions at the candidates, both of whom did their best to avoid her.
