What Is The New Constitution Amendment Bill And Why Opposition Leaders Are Calling It ‘Path To Dictatorship’ | Explained

(August 20, 2025)

The three bills sparked a massive uproar in Lok Sabha with Opposition MPs tearing the copies of the draft legislation and throwing them at Home Minister Amit Shah. The Committee has been mandated to submit its report to the House by the last day of the first week of the next session. The next session (Winter session) of the Parliament is likely to be convened in the third week of November.

Election Day 2025: Race for NYC mayor, New Jersey governor and more | Live updates

Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa are all vying to become the 111th mayor of New York, the economic and cultural capital of the country.

And Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli are running against each other to become New Jersey‘s governor in a contentious race that has gained considerable national attention.

New Jersey is one of only two gubernatorial races across the country, and since it comes one year after a presidential election and one year before the midterm elections, it is often seen as an indicator how both the White House and Congress are doing.

Far-left candidate who called Israel ‘terrorist state’ elected president of Ireland

“If we in this Dáil can’t recognize that Israel is a terrorist state, then we’re in serious trouble,” she said in a video shared on her campaign’s Facebook page in June, referring to the lower house of the Irish legislature where she served. She went on to criticize Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear program, its military conduct in Gaza, and other Israeli policies.

Connolly, 68, is a long-time critic of the European Union in overwhelmingly pro-EU Ireland. She was backed by the left-dominated opposition, was not a household name, and was underestimated by many at the start of the campaign.

New York’s Most Powerful Democrat Hasn’t Endorsed Mamdani. Yet.

(August 14, 2025)

The governor is not alone in her hesitancy. Prominent Democrats from New York — including the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer; Senator Kirsten Gillibrand; and the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries — have not made an endorsement in the race. Of the 10 House Democrats in New York City, only four have endorsed Mr. Mamdani.

Like House Democrats, Ms. Hochul is facing re-election next year, potentially against Representative Elise Stefanik, a top Republican supporter of President Trump. Some political observers think that an enthusiastic endorsement of Mr. Mamdani could hurt the governor in more conservative areas of the state.
