Epstein, Israel, and the CIA: How the Iran-Contra Planes Landed at Les Wexner‘s Base

Stanley Pottinger, as it happens, was a notable figure in the scandal that became known as Iran-Contra, in which the CIA used Israel as a middleman to move off-the-books weapons to Iran. In the early 1980s, under the CIAâs supervision, Pottinger advised an Iranian banker on shipping embargoed arms to Iran using fraudulent paperwork and overseas âdummy companiesââin the very same period that Pottinger and Epstein worked together selling âtax-avoidanceâ strategies from a penthouse by Central Park. Pottingerâs system eventually gave rise to a network of covert intermediaries shipping arms around the world; the CIAâs profits became a slush fund used to illegally bankroll the insurgent Contra army, who waged a war against Nicaraguaâs leftist government while simultaneously trafficking cocaine to the United States.

Pottinger escaped prosecution after the FBIâs incriminating tapes of his conversations mysteriously disappeared; he went on to make a fortune on real estate deals in the 1980s, and became a New York Timesâ bestselling novelist. His Times obit from last year reports that his final spy thriller remains unpublished. Hashemi died in 1986 after being infected with âa rare and virulent form of leukemiaâ that was diagnosed only two days before he died. (His death was later alleged to be foul play.)
El-Sayed Challenges âCorporate Selloutâ and âCowardâ Mike Rogers to Five Debates
Ripping Rogers as a âcorporate sellout,â El-Sayed said that he is âa guy who spent 14 years in Congress with one goal: to figure out how to cash out the day he left. And guess what he did: As soon as he left Congress, after having taken corporate check after corporate check after corporate check, to empower the corporations to pick your pockets, he went and he cashed out.â
âNot in Michiganâno, winters are too cold for him,â he added, eliciting chuckles from the crowd. âHeâs got thin skin, after all. He went to Florida. So, Mike, if you wanna be a Florida man, go be a Florida man.â
Rogersâ who was unopposed in Tuesdayâs GOP primary, worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation before entering politics, first at the state level and then representing Michiganâs 8th District in Congress from 2001-15. In comments to Fox News late Tuesday, the Republican cited his time fighting âterrorismâ in the FBI and falsely claimed that El-Sayed believes âAmerica deserved 9/11.â
Trumpâs DOJ says it will withdraw subpoenas targeting NY Times reporters
The Justice Department opened a leak investigation and took aggressive steps to identify the officials who spoke with The Times. Some officials were asked to turn over their cell phones at the White House, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
Some of the subpoenas â which are court orders compelling a person to testify â were delivered by FBI agents at the reportersâ homes.
The Times publicized the legal threat right away and aggressively fought back, calling the subpoenas a âbad faith effort to harass and intimidateâ the news media.
The Justice Department said it was not targeting the reporters; it was pursuing the leakers of classified information.

Former counterterrorism chief says he was blocked from investigating Charlie Kirkâs killing
Joe Kent publicly announced his resignation as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center on March 17, stating that he âcannot in good conscienceâ support the U.S.âs war with Iran.
Kirk was shot dead during a public appearance in Utah on September 10, 2025. A day after his resignation, Kent appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show, where he claimed that his investigation into the killing was blocked.

Trump aides and allies denounced Kent as a leaker immediately after his resignation became public.
Kent wrote in his resignation letter that Iran poses âno imminent threat to our nationâ and accused Trump of initiating the war âdue to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.â

Several Epstein victims have said that theyâve scoured the DOJâs website in recent weeks for files documenting their own interviews with the FBI â only to come up empty handed.
âAll of us have been looking for our victim statements,â Jess Michaels, who was assaulted by Epstein when she was 22 years old, told CNN after the file release. Heavily redacted and missing interview reports suggest that âthis Department of Justice is actually gaslighting the entire country,â Michaels argued.

In a separate email from 2015, Stern presented Epstein with another opportunity â a potential investment in two FBI field offices located in Richmond, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland, along with associated courthouses. The documents described these federal properties as attractive assets and outlined a structure requiring an initial $25 million contribution followed by an additional $80 million. Ownership would have been routed through an offshore entity registered in the Cayman Islands.
Both real estate proposals originated with investor Jonathan D. Fascitelli, a noted person in commercial property development.

The three documents – an email describing the offer, an investor deck, and a deal summary – were released as part of the millions of Epstein Files.
The offer was forwarded to Epstein by David Stern, a businessman who called himself Epsteinâs âsoldierâ and who was also a close aide to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
In the same year Stern sent the proposal to Epstein, he was made director of the St George‘s House Trust at Windsor Castle and was invited to an event at St Jamesâ Palace, where he sat directly next to Queen Elizabeth II.
The Trump team downplayed the Epstein files. Andrewâs arrest and other probes show how rash that was.

In mid-2025, when the Trump administration suddenly felt compelled to downplay the Jeffrey Epstein files, officials said they didnât have enough evidence to prompt any additional investigations of third parties.
The memo didnât just say there wasnât evidence to charge anyone else, mind you; it said there wasnât even evidence to investigate âuncharged third parties.â
That broad assertion in an unsigned FBI memo has proved to be a rather rash conclusion â most recently and emphatically by Thursdayâs arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, in the UK.

Appearing on MS NOWâs âThe Weekend,â Epstein survivor Jess Michaels, who sat in the gallery as Bondi testified on Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, said she has not heard from the DOJ and has had to ask for outside helphelp in tracking down the trail of documents she provided to the FBI.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who drew President Donald Trumpâs ire amid his successful push to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act in Congress last year, urged federal officials to follow the example of their British counterparts.

The Maxwell Family Business: Espionage

Though Israeli intelligence found obvious use for the steady stream of sensitive and classified information, their biggest prize was yet to come â top secret government laboratories in the United States. Eitan tasked Maxwell with selling PROMIS to US labs in the Los Alamos complex, including Sandia National Laboratory, which was and is at the core of the US nuclear weapons system. Notably, the eventual sale of PROMIS to these laboratories by Maxwell occurred during the same period in 1984 when Eitan tasked one of Israelâs top experts in nuclear targeting with supervising Jonathan Pollardâs espionage of U.S. nuclear secrets on Israelâs behalf.
In order to plot how he would accomplish such a feat, Maxwell would meet with none other than Henry Kissinger, who told him that â in order to sell PROMIS to these sensitive laboratories â he needed to enlist the services of then-Senator for Texas John Tower, who was the head of the Senatesâ Armed Services Committee at the time.

Not long after his failure to secure the nomination as Pentagon chief, Tower died in a suspicious plane crash soon after the equally suspicious death of Robert Maxwell.

In early August 1984, FBI headquarters and other higher-ups in the Ed Meese-led Department of Justice, which itself was complicit in the whole sordid PROMIS affair, ordered the New Mexico office to halt its investigation into Information on Demand, Maxwell and PROMIS. The cover-up, oddly enough, continues today, with the FBI still refusing to release documents pertaining to Robert Maxwell and his role in the PROMIS scandal.
Mega Group, Maxwells and Mossad: The Spy Story at the Heart of the Jeffrey Epstein Scandal

Almost one year to the day after the âMegaâ spy scandal broke, the Wall Street Journal was the first outlet to report on the existence of a little-known organization of billionaires that was âinformallyâ called the Mega Group and had been founded years prior in 1991. The report made no mention of the spy scandal that had spread concerns of Israeli espionage in the U.S. only a year prior. However, the groupâs distinctive âinformalâ name and the connections of its members to the Mossad and to high-ranking Israeli politicians, including prime ministers, raise the possibility that âMegaâ was not an individual, as the FBI and NSA had believed, but a group.
In 1997, when the âMegaâ spy scandal broke, Netanyahu had recently become prime minister of Israel after an upset victory, a victory that was largely credited to one well-connected Netanyahu backer in particular, Ronald Lauder.

Some have taken Maxwellâs funeral held in Israel as the countryâs âofficialâ confirmation of Maxwellâs service to the Mossad, as it was likened to a state funeral and attended by no less than six serving and former heads of Israeli intelligence. During his funeral service in Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir eulogized him and stated: âHe has done more for Israel than can today be said.â
Pollard Revisited: Is Mr. X Spying Again in Washington?

For more than a decade, the bureau and officials at the Department of Justice have been obsessed with the suspicion that Israeli intelligence is running a mole inside the administration. This conviction originated in November 1986, following the arrest of Jonathan J. Pollard at the gates of the Israeli Embassy. Pollard, a U.S. citizen of Jewish origins, worked as an analyst at the counterterrorism center of U.S. Navy intelligence. He was sentenced to life in prison for spying on behalf of a secret Israeli intelligence unit called Lakam, a Hebrew acronym for Scientific Liaison Bureau.
U.S. prosecutors and investigators believed that Pollard and his Israeli handlers were helped by another American, referred to as Mr. X, who probably was a senior administration official. Mr. X provided the reference numbers that helped Pollard pull out requested files from Americaâs most-secret intelligence computers. But the investigators could not uncover Mr. X. Now, the FBI is eager to determine whether the old Mr. X of the Pollard affair is Mega.
