General Dan Halutz, over what were euphemistically called “targeted assassinations.” Israeli warplanes regularly fired missiles at Hamas leaders in Gaza, also killing innocent civilians, some of them children.
Shapira asked General Halutz, What if a Hamas leader were located in Tel Aviv? Would you order our pilots to fire there, risking Israeli bystanders? Halutz said no.

Just over an hour later, after heading to shelter with his camera crew, the BBC re-established contact with Hugo.
Explosions have been reported in other cities across the country, including Lviv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, in what appears to be the most widespread set of Russian attacks since the early weeks of the war.

The bill adds another justification for searching without a warrant – if, in the police’s view, there are reasonable suspicions that evidence will be found there that will prove a serious crime has been committed, and there are also grounds for fearing that this evidence will be destroyed by the time a search warrant is obtained. The Ministerial Committee for Legislation did insist that in any such situation, the police officer entertaining this suspicion will need approval from a senior officer. But in practice, the police can always claim that a reasonable suspicion existed, even it if turns out the officer in question was wrong.

The national curfew came into effect at 9pm on January 23. The first night saw the police issue over 3.600 95-euro fines for violations of the curfew. 25 people were arrested. However, the police did note that, of the people who were stopped and checked during curfew hours, 80 percent carried the necessary government forms.
On Monday, the Dutch Security Council – made up of the 25 mayors who chair security regions – will meet in Utrecht in order to discuss how the curfew will be enforced over the coming weeks.
