Demos in mehreren Städten: Tausende Dänen protestieren gegen Trumps Grönland-Pläne

Tausende Dänen haben in Kopenhagen gegen die von US-Präsident Donald Trump erhobenen Besitzansprüche auf Grönland protestiert. Sie versammelten sich vor dem Rathaus der dänischen Hauptstadt, schwenkten dänische und grönländische Fahnen und riefen „Kalaallit Nunaat!“ – den Namen Grönlands in der Muttersprache.

Auch in anderen dänischen Städten sowie in der grönländischen Hauptstadt Nuuk finden Proteste statt.

Protesters rally in Denmark and Greenland against Trump annexation threat

In Greenland‘s capital Nuuk, thousands led by Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen carried flags and similar banners as they headed for the U.S. consulate chanting „Kalaallit Nunaat“ – the island‘s name in Greenlandic.

“I’ve come here today because I think it’s important to show that Greenland is not for sale. It is not a toy. This is our home,” said Naja Holm, a civil servant.

Travel disruption for thousands after mystery drones closed two of Scandinavia’s busiest airports

Two of Scandinavia’s busiest airports – Oslo and Copenhagen – were forced to close for several hours due to drone sightings overnight into Tuesday, disrupting the travel plans of tens of thousands of people.

The airspace over Denmark’s Copenhagen Airport was closed for almost four hours on Monday night after two to three large “unidentified” drones were spotted in the area. No flights were allowed to take off or land.

War on Gaza: Pro-Palestine marches held in European cities on Land Day

Tens of thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators have taken to the streets in several European cities on Saturday, including London, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, as well as elsewhere.

Marches called for allowing aid into the besieged Gaza Strip and demanded a ceasefire, as they also commemorated the 48th anniversary of Land Day.

NATO Secretary General calls for creation of a transatlantic quantum community, welcomes Denmark’s leadership

Later in the day, the Secretary General opened the new NATO accelerator site “Deep Tech Lab – Quantum” together with the Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen; the Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Morten Bødskov; and the Minister of Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund. The Lab will help start-ups from across the Alliance commercialise quantum-enabled solutions, as part of NATO’s new Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA).

DIANA consists of a network of test centers and accelerator sites across NATO countries, where innovators develop new technologies to solve pressing security challenges. The Deep Tech Lab – Quantum in Copenhagen is one of five pilot accelerator sites launched in 2023.

The demonstration followed the sentencing of a woman who was found guilty of inciting violence during an anti-lockdown protest in January. Speakers who addressed the crowd during Saturday’s march expressed solidarity with the woman, who received two years behind bars due to a controversial provision that allows Danish courts to double sentences if the crime is related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
