„BioNTech-Impfung: Ab 7 Monaten kein Schutz messbar“

Common side effects of covid-19 vaccination listed by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) include a sore arm, fever, fatigue, and myalgia.1 Changes to periods and unexpected vaginal bleeding are not listed, but primary care clinicians and those working in reproductive health are increasingly approached by people who have experienced these events shortly after vaccination. More than 30 000 reports of these events had been made to MHRA’s yellow card surveillance scheme for adverse drug reactions by 2 September 2021, across all covid-19 vaccines currently offered.

PM Boris Johnson: The Oxford vaccine shows why we and the world need Britain to be global

The objective of Global Britain is not to swagger or strike attitudes on the world stage. It is to use the full spectrum of our abilities, now amplified by record spending on both defence and science, to engage with and help the rest of the world. That is how we serve the British interest, and I mean the economic interest of people up and down the country. And as the vaccine programme begins to inspire a new global hope, we want to use this moment to heal, both literally and figuratively.

Hopes rise for herd immunity after Covid case numbers fall by half

Nearly 90 per cent of Scottish adults are estimated to have antibodies which protect against Covid-19, either through vaccination or previous infection, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Britain may be finally nearing the Holy Grail of herd immunity

(today)

Scientists say they are “puzzled” by the recent drop, blaming it on the heatwave, school closures, the Euros tournament ending, or a decrease in testing. It may even be the result of the “pingdemic” causing mass isolation and lowering transmission, they say, or else people are no longer being tested for fear of missing holidays.

Few straws have been left unclutched in the bid to explain the anomaly. Yet amid the bewilderment, few seem willing to consider the prospect that it is the vaccination programme which is doing most of the heavy lifting. Britain may be finally nearing the Holy Grail of herd immunity.

Turning the tide: Britain ‚on the cusp‘ of hitting herd immunity with 87 per cent now having antibodies against Covid plus third wave cases are falling in EVERY age group in England and infections drop for seventh day in a row to 27,734

Scientists at University College London estimate the total population‘s immunity is at 87 per cent, with the current threshold for herd immunity at 93 per cent due to the contagious delta variant.

Being so close to the threshold should make it harder for the virus to transmit.

Dr David Matthews, a virologist and coronaviruses expert from the University of Bristol, told The Telegraph: ‚In terms of herd immunity – by which we mean the virus has managed to reach everybody and therefore most people will have a level of immune memory – I suspect we‘re very close to it.

Adenovirus vector vaccination reprograms pulmonary fibroblastic niches to support protective inflating memory CD8+ T cells

(15.07.2021)

The ultimate goal of T cell-based vaccination strategies is the induction of long-term immunological protection via effector memory T cells1. Adenovirus (Ad) vector-based vaccines using the backbone of human Ads have been shown in clinical studies
to be highly immunogenic with induction of specific antibody and/or T cell responses to viral or cancer antigens. However, pre-existing anti-Ad antibodies in vaccinated individuals reduces immunogenicity and efficacy of vaccines based on human Ads, which led to the development of non-human vectors based on chimpanzee viruses. Chimeric Ad vectors have been shown to induce long-lived T cell responses against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and to generate polyfunctional central and effector memory T cells against hepatitis C
virus.

(…)

Results

Targeting of human fibroblasts by Ad vectors. Human Ads were first described as cytopathogenic agents isolated from human adenoid tonsils28. Here, we used sliced tissue cultures from human
palatine tonsils to assess the cellular tropism of green fluorescent protein (GFP)-expressing Ad vectors (Extended Data Fig. 1a). Both HuAd5-GFP and chimpanzee (Ch)AdOx1-GFP vectors readily transduced cells in the tissue slides, with PDPN+CD45− cells most
frequently expressing the GFP transgene (Fig. 1a,b). Next, we compared side-by-side the susceptibility to infection with recombinant Ad vectors of short-term cultured tonsillar stromal cells (TSCs) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Both ChAdOx1-GFP (Fig. 1c,d) and HuAd5-GFP (Fig. 1e,f ) efficiently transduced TSCs following an incubation of 3 h, while the transduction rate of PBMCs remained low. Even at the high multiplicity of infection (MOI) of 1,000 particles per cells, less than 2% of the hematopoietic cells were GFP-positive.
