Texas conservative Ted Cruz and NY liberal Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez team up to combat corruption in Washington
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and GOP Sen. Ted Cruz came together Thursday on Twitter in a professed effort to ban former lawmakers from taking paid lobbying positions.
Here’s something I don’t say often: on this point, I AGREE with @AOC Indeed, I have long called for a LIFETIME BAN on former Members of Congress becoming lobbyists. The Swamp would hate it, but perhaps a chance for some bipartisan cooperation?
Ted Cruz And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Team Up To Ban Lawmakers From Lobbying
By early afternoon, Ocasio-Cortez said she would co-lead a bill with Cruz — if there were no „partisan snuck-in clauses, no poison pills.“
Cruz, who has previously argued with the freshman Democrat on Twitter, agreed.
At least one politician from each side of the aisle came forward to support their pact: Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, tweeted, „IN,“ and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, offered to lead or co-sponsor a bill in the House.

Pompeos Deutschlandbesuch: Ein bisschen Frieden
Will the White House’s bullying of Europe over Iran work?
Those European efforts have centered on the creation of a payment channel with Iran, which in theory could allow European companies to keep trading with the country despite U.S. sanctions. The Paris-based Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) was formally registered by Britain, France and Germany more than three months ago and is expected to operate essentially like a clearinghouse for credit points.
Threatening Europe Over INSTEX Is Insane
That confirms a few things that we already suspected. First, it tells us that the U.S. is determined to cut off all legitimate trade with Iran, including trade in supposedly exempted humanitarian goods. They are actively working to cause the Iranian people as much misery as they can. Second, it tells us that the administration is willing to wreck its relations with some of its closest European allies to pursue their economic war against the Iranian people. U.S. interests and longstanding relationships with important allies are being sacrificed for the sake of a vindictive and outrageous policy of collective punishment against a population of more than eighty million people.
„Finally, he said that the EU countries’ special purpose vehicle – INSTEX, a mechanism designed to circumvent US sanctions on Iran – has been nearly useless to date“. @Jerusalem_Post
U.S. Warns Europe That Its Iran Workaround Could Face Sanctions
Sigal Mandelker, the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, signaled in a May 7 letter obtained by Bloomberg that Instex, the European vehicle to sustain trade with Tehran, and anyone associated with it could be barred from the U.S. financial system if it goes into effect.
Trump team threaten Europe with sanctions over Instex
Donald Trump’s staff have threatened sanctions against the financial body created by Germany, the UK and France to preserve trade with Iran in defiance of US trade barriers.

US-Außenminister in Deutschland: Pompeos zweiter Versuch

New Election in Israel Are the Golden Opportunity for Arab Parties
In the April 9 election, voter turnout in the Arab community fell to less than 50 percent, and United Arab List-Balad received only 3.3 percent of all the votes cast, just 0.05 percent above the minimum vote threshold to enter the Knesset. The Arab parties won 10 seats in the present Knesset, compared to 13 in the previous one when they ran together as the Joint List. Moreover, 27 percent of the voters opted for Zionist parties, and Meretz in particular.

Today they are coming for the immigrants, and we all must speak up. They are coming for the Muslims, and we all must speak up. And whenever they come after another group, we must all speak up.
The #EUelections saw 52% of the vote go to parties committed to Brexit + 48% go to parties committed to Remain, when counting parties with a declared position on Brexit. So @Conservatives now need to build the support for Brexit by committing to a fairer, better post-Brexit UK.

It had been a „challenging fundraising year“ for all parties, the Tories said.

Donald Trump ‚may‘ meet Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage
The president‘s visit to the UK last year prompted tens of thousands of people to protest in London.
The upcoming trip has been condemned by shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry who said the president had „systematically assaulted all the shared values that unite our two countries“.
In addition to Mr Corbyn, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable has declined an invitation to attend the state banquet hosted for Mr Trump.

Defying Iran, U.S. to use Oman ports for Persian Gulf access
The United States clinched a strategic port deal with Oman last week which US officials say will allow the US military better access the Gulf region and reduce the need to send ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime choke point off Iran.
The US embassy in Oman said in a statement that the agreement governed U.S. access to facilities and ports in Duqm as well as in Salalah and “reaffirms the commitment of both countries to promoting mutual security goals.”
