The Editors: Congress must limit the president’s war powers

When President Obama used a drone strike to kill 150 people in Somalia in 2016, he justified that action under the 2001 A.U.M.F., arguing that the targets were Islamist terrorists, part of the “associated forces” of Al Qaeda against whom Congress had authorized military force.

The problem is that such justifications have become largely pro forma because Congress has not provided itself with a mechanism to reject or limit them or even to regularly debate whether they have been misused.

She said six to eight CIA employees took part in al-Baluchi‘s interrogation session.

One employee „explained his role as a student doing on-the job training.“ Another said that before al-Baluchi‘s interrogation, he had felt he was falling behind „because he needed to practice interrogation techniques.“ Others said they were „trying to learn what they were doing and how to apply coercion.“ That‘s according to a classified CIA report, portions of which defense attorneys were permitted by the government to read in open court.

Germany‘s pro-Israel Left Has a New Target in the Crosshairs: Jews

That was my introduction to the political phenomenon known as Antideutsche – anti-Germans. It started in the late 1980s as an exotic offshoot of the Maoist left, whose members denied the very legitimacy of a German nation after Nazism, under the slogan, “Germany, never again.” But for the past two decades, Antideutsche has had one primary focus: an unrestrained attack on anyone who is critical, even a bit, of Israeli policy. According to their amazingly simplistic approach, anti-Semitism is the source of all evil, Israel is the answer to anti-Semitism, and thus constitutes absolute good. Hence, at demonstrations and in Facebook posts of this left-wing group, there have even been calls to drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza – that is, calls for genocide.

Netanyahu reportedly could boycott Knesset deliberations on his immunity request

The Knesset is set to vote next week on forming the panel that will weigh — and likely reject — Netanyahu’s request, with deliberations scheduled to begin at the end of month.

In Likud, the assumption is that Netanyahu himself will not be present at the hearings and may not even send his lawyers, Channel 12 news reported.

With Trump‘s Peace Plan, the Plot to Save Netanyahu Enters Next Phase

Let’s imagine the next scenario: A unity government has been set up in Israel along the lines of President Rivlin’s proposal – which specifies a rotation of the premiership between Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz. Donald Trump lays the “deal of the century” on the table. Netanyahu would say this is no time to change a prime minister. This is a historic, one-time opportunity Israel is getting a de facto green light for annexation from the United States.
