Only one party has sided vocally with the students since the very start: Jean-Luc MĂ©lenchon‘s far-left France Unbowed.
We ask whether that will consolidate his second place in the polls ahead of next spring‘s presidential elections. That would qualify MĂ©lenchon for the May 2 run-off against the far right‘s Marine Le Pen.
A map published on Thursday on the website 17octobregiletjaune.net listed more than 1,000 events planned around the country to denounce rising fuel prices and support high-school students who have been protesting for nearly a month to demand better classroom conditions.
Hohe Lebenshaltungskosten, geringe GehÀlter, MissstÀnde an Schulen: In Frankreich haben landesweit Massenproteste begonnen. Zehntausende Demonstranten werden erwartet.

Merz sagte, die moralischen MaĂstĂ€be in Deutschland gerieten âlangsam ins Rutschenâ.

Washington â The U.S. Army Reserve is examining whether it can provide the military‘s Southern Command with police forces, medical personnel and other support units within the next four months, according to an internal Army message reviewed by CBS News.
Though the message makes no reference to Cuba, the request is for continued military planning aimed at Cuba, according to multiple U.S. officials who spoke to CBS News under condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
According to The Times, the troops will first deploy to a new jungle training facility in Panama before eventually training with local forces in Colombia and Honduras.
The troops could also support U.S. special operations personnel who are advising local militaries conducting raids against suspected drug traffickers, the outlet reported.
Separately, several hundred soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division are expected to help staff a new Western Hemisphere military command based in Miami.
Tina Peters, a prominent MAGA election activist, met with Trump in October. She was convicted in 2024 of crimes tied to a breach of election equipment, then freed this year after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, commuted her sentence. Peters and her attorney, Peter Ticktin, also visited Trump at the White House in late June.
Ticktin, who is Trumpâs childhood friend, was among the speakers on a Sept. 30 video call for MAGA election activists streamed on Rumble. They warned of widespread election security breaches they believe will hit in November, and they urgently pushed for remedies.
(September 23, 2026)
The way Ticktin sees it, there are three possible outcomes this fall. The firstâa smooth electionâwonât happen in his view because, he claims without evidence, Democrats already cheated in the primaries. The second is that Trump takes action before the election to prevent cheating. The last option is that Trump tries to declare martial law on or around November 3. âEither martial law, or step aside,â he told us about Trumpâs choices in the last scenario. When we asked about the prospect of riots if Trump tries to overturn the election results, Ticktin said he was not concerned. âBelieve me, our armed forces are a lot bigger than they are,â he said.
Fascists identified with the racist Otzma Yehudit party, broke into the Left Bank club in Central Tel Aviv last night (Thursday, October 15). The building also serves as the Joint List elections headquarters, and branch for Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel. The intrusion occurred during the premiere screening of the âMesarvotâ occupation army refusers networkâs film, âNot Refusing to Respond,â and led to physical clashes with activists.
A dozen fascists attempted to reach the floor where the headquarters operates. Police arrived only after the activists had been removed from the premises by activists. The Joint List strongly condemned the violent break-in at the campaignâs election headquarters in Tel Aviv. âThis marks a dangerous new peak in political violence within the country, representing a perilous escalation and a tangible threat to election integrity. The writing is on the wall, and we must not wait for the next incident to understand the severity of the situation and act decisively,â the statement read.

Few economic indicators hit voters as fast or as visibly as the price of gasoline. Academic research stretching back decades confirms what political operatives have long understood intuitively: when gas prices rise sharply, presidential approval falls, and when approval falls heading into a midterm, the presidentâs party loses seats. That chain is being tested dramatically right now.
(September 14, 2026)
If Democrats manage to take back the House and Senate in November despite an inhospitable electoral map, the Trump effect on gas prices may well be the reason.

President Trump signed an executive order on Friday night exempting Russia from a new sanctions measure that Congress passed last month, offering another economic lifeline to Russian President Vladimir V. Putin as the United States turns to Russia for help in lowering gas prices.
Trumpâs unexpected decision comes a week after he stunningly said the U.S. had agreed to purchase diesel from Russia to try to bring down global energy prices, despite that potentially hurting Ukraine in its war with Russia.
An AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll published Oct. 1 found that Americans disapprove of the presidentâs handling of the Iran war and blame him for higher prices.
