Southern Lebanon: Death, injury and significant damage after Israeli airstrike in Sour (Tyre)

MSF condemns the airstrike carried out by the Israeli army on the evening of 1 June in the vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital, which we support, in Sour (Tyre). According to the Ministry of Public Health, the attack has so far resulted in four deaths and 127 injuries, including 39 hospital staff. Among the injured staff, four are in critical condition and remain under treatment in intensive care. Bodies are still being recovered from the rubble, and the total number of dead and injured could still rise.

The strike caused severe damage to Jabal Amel Hospital itself, including its inpatient department, radiology department and intensive care unit. One wall of an operating room has been severely damaged, leaving a large hole, and the medical team had to urgently transfer half of the remaining patients in the intensive care unit to another ward to ensure their safety.

ICE claim that a man shattered his skull running into wall triggers tension at a Minnesota hospital

The explanation from ICE is an example of recent run-ins between immigration officers and health care workers that have contributed to mounting friction at Minneapolis hospitals. Workers at the Hennepin County facility say ICE officers have restrained patients in defiance of hospital rules and stayed at their sides for days. The agents have also lingered around the campus and pressed people for proof of citizenship.

Takeaways from AP report on ICE claims that immigrant shattered his skull running into wall

According to his lawyers, Castañeda Mondragón entered the U.S. in 2022 with valid immigration documents. Minnesota incorporation filings show he founded a company called Castaneda Construction the following year with an address listed in St. Paul. He appears to have no criminal record.

His lawyers told a court that Castañeda Mondragón was racially profiled during the crackdown, and that officers determined only after his arrest that he had overstayed his visa.

“He was a brown-skinned, Latino Spanish speaker at a location immigration agents arbitrarily decided to target,” his lawyers wrote in a petition seeking his release from ICE custody.

MSF statement on sharing staff information and humanitarian operations in Palestine

Following many months of unsuccessful engagement with Israeli authorities, and in the absence of securing assurances to ensure the safety of our staff or the independent management of our operations, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has concluded that it will not share a list of its Palestinian and international staff with Israeli authorities in the current circumstances.

In March 2025, Israeli authorities announced that organisations seeking registration would be required to provide personal information about their staff. From the outset, MSF raised serious concerns about this request in a context where medical and humanitarian workers have been intimidated, arbitrarily detained, and attacked. Since October 2023, 1,700 health staff have been killed, as well as 15 MSF colleagues. On 30 December, Israeli authorities announced that MSF‘s previous registration had lapsed and was therefore expected to cease operations within 60 days.

Addressing frequently asked questions and allegations about MSF’s work in Gaza

Is it true that MSF has not cooperated with Israel?

For many months, MSF has unsuccessfully sought dialogue with the Israeli authorities on the renewal of our registration to work in Palestine. We remain open to dialogue with the Israeli authorities to maintain our critical medical operations in Gaza and the West Bank and to ensure that MSF can continue delivering essential, lifesaving medical care to people in desperate need, whilst safeguarding our teams. We would consult our Palestinian colleagues on any possible next step.

By accusing MSF, as well as other NGOs, of not cooperating and creating smear campaigns against aid organisations, Israel is using unfounded allegations to arbitrarily restrict access to critical care for Palestinians and limit witnessing from independent organisations working on the ground. This type of accusation contributes to the delegitimisation of humanitarian workers who are delivering vital care and services under extremely challenging conditions.

We observe that such accusations fit within a long-standing pattern used by Israeli authorities, alongside numerous physical and bureaucratic obstacles, to restrict the entry and delivery of aid into Gaza. Similar tactics were used in 2024 against UNRWA. Allegations are used to justify actions which stand in clear contradiction to the Israeli government’s claims that it is facilitating the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.

What is the status of MSF’s registration to operate in Gaza and the West Bank?

As of the 1 January 2026, MSF’s registration to work in Gaza and the West Bank has expired and is therefore no longer valid. As such, we are required to cease operations by 1 March 2026.

We are seeking avenues to ensure that our humanitarian response continues in Gaza and the West Bank. We are also engaging with the Israeli authorities to ensure we can continue our activities, the prevention of which is a direct violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2720 – which calls for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians.

MSF says it will not share staff details demanded by Israel to access Gaza

Medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres said on Friday it will not submit lists of staff demanded by Israel to maintain access to Gaza and the West Bank, saying it had not been able to obtain assurances over the safety of its teams.

I‘ve seen MSF‘s work in Gaza. Israel‘s coercion of this charity is a scandal

(January 28, 2026)

The fear of handing over staff lists is well-founded. We know Israel targets journalists in their homes. We know its soldiers kidnap doctors – there is still no sign of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of a hospital in northern Gaza detained by Israeli forces in December 2024. We know Israeli troops shoot healthcare workers, as they did last March when they killed, then buried, 15 emergency responders in Rafah.

Israel has no qualms about punishing those who do not bow to its demands. Food, medicine and humanitarian supplies have been cut off. MSF has said that since January 1, international staff have been denied entry into Gaza and critical medical supplies blocked; this is on top of the new registration requirements that could halt operations altogether.

This is another attempt not only to control humanitarian operations, but to suffocate Gaza.

Inside the Doctors Without Borders Clinics That Israel Is Closing in Gaza

(January 17, 2026)

The Israeli government has given Doctors Without Borders until the end of February to pull out of the Gaza Strip, and has already cut off its ability to bring in supplies. Under new regulations, Israel demands that international aid groups provide lists of Palestinians on their Gaza payrolls, a measure it says is intended to ensure that militants do not infiltrate the groups.

On 29 October, our teams across the Gaza Strip treated severely wounded patients from attacks by Israeli forces, which caused alarming civilian casualties.

We have seen injured patients in Al-Aqsa, Nasser, and Al-Shifa hospitals.

Dr Morten Rostrup, a doctor at Al-Aqsa hospital, said: “When I got to the emergency room, it was a desperate situation. There is no doubt this is an attack on civilians, with so many children being injured and killed. Do we really call this a ceasefire?”

In Nasser hospital, our, and the Ministry of Health’s, teams received 22 dead and 60 injured, including children. Al-Aqsa hospital treated 77 injured, some of whom were referred to our field hospital. Lastly, at Al-Shifa, Ministry of Health teams received 27 dead and 56 injured.

Since the ceasefire began, Israeli forces have killed 211 people, according to the Ministry of Health. In the past 24 hours alone, they report that Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 104 people — including 46 children and 20 women — and injured 253 others, among them 78 children.

We have repeatedly called for a sustained ceasefire to stop the overwhelming level of death and catastrophic injuries suffered by civilians. So far, we are witnessing the consequences of repeated violations of this ceasefire, which perpetuate the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

“Tasneem was a courageous and devoted humanitarian. Despite constant danger, she served those in desperate need to the end. Her death, along with her children, is a heartbreaking tragedy. This violence is destroying those who are trying to help. It is incomprehensible and it must end. Enough is enough,” said Dr Umiayeh Khammash, Director of Juzoor.

Tasneem was pregnant when she died and had already lost her son Muslam in a previous attack last year. Tasneem’s husband remains critically injured from the recent attack.

Israel denying treatment to thousands of Gazans who lost limbs in Israeli attacks, almost 1,000 of them children

(July 9, 2025)

According to conversations PHRI staff held with doctors in the Strip, as well as information published by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), doctors report a severe shortage of painkillers, which has led to amputations being performed without anesthesia, including in children. Doctors have also reported performing amputations in unsanitary conditions, without proper surgical equipment, and in some cases even outside of hospital buildings. In situations where basic medications such as antibiotics were unavailable, doctors had to amputate limbs to save lives – even in cases where amputation could have been avoided under normal circumstances.

According to the WHO report, about 4,370 adults and children who lost limbs during the current war are still waiting to receive assistive devices such as crutches or prosthetics. Additionally, 83% of people currently living with a disability in the Gaza Strip lost their assistive devices and other essential equipment during displacement.

Cardiologist‘s killing will have ‚devastating impact‘ on healthcare in Gaza, says medical organisation

Sultan was one of only two cardiologists left in the Gaza Strip, and the director of the Indonesian hospital in north Gaza. He was killed in an Israeli air strike on his apartment on Wednesday, along with his wife and at least three of his children.

Paying homage to the renowned cardiologist, Alser told The Guardian: “The killing of Dr Marwan al-Sultan by the Israeli military is a catastrophic loss to Gaza and the entire medical community, and will have a devastating impact on Gaza’s healthcare system.

“This is part of a much longer and systematic atrocious targeting of healthcare workers sanctioned by impunity.

„This is a tragic loss of life, but also an obliteration of their decades of lifesaving medical expertise and care at a time when the situation facing Palestinian civilians is unfathomably catastrophic,” Alser added.

(June 28, 2025)

Channel 4 has announced it will broadcast Gaza: Doctors Under Attack on Wednesday 2nd July at 10pm.

The one-off documentary, produced by Basement Films, examines allegations that Israeli forces have repeatedly targeted hospitals and healthcare workers during the Gaza conflict in breach of international law.

Gaza: Doctors Under Attack is a forensic investigation into Israeli military attacks on hospitals in Gaza. It also examines allegations of the targeting and abuse of doctors and healthcare workers in Gaza. Every one of Gaza’s 36 main hospitals has now been attacked or destroyed by Israel, with people forced to evacuate and healthcare workers reportedly killed, imprisoned and tortured.

The film was originally commissioned for the BBC but has been fact-checked and complied by Channel 4 to ensure it meets Channel 4 editorial standards and the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.
