Manufacturer MBDA says the Storm Shadow has a range of more than 150 miles, giving Kyiv the ability to strike behind the Russian front line.
Britain is understood to have received assurances that the missiles will only be used defensively against targets in Ukrainian territory being occupied by Vladimir Putin’s forces.
The Government has not provided detail on the number of missiles to be provided to Kyiv.

Wallace told lawmakers in the House of Commons that Britain is donating Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of more than 155 miles. He didn‘t say how many are being sent. (…)

The concept of so-called ‘hybrid conflict’ is a combination of conventional warfare using state-of-the-art technology (e.g. precision strikes against critical infrastructures, special forces operations) and indirect/non-military actions (no declaration of war, the use of armed civilians, avoiding clashes with the opponent’s regular armed forces, information warfare).[1] Russia might use the presence of large Russian-speaking minorities in the Baltic states as a pretext to interfere with their internal affairs, which increases the possibility of hybrid conflict in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania. Russia could initiate such a conflict by instigating separatism, supporting protests staged by sections of the Russian-speaking community (e.g. over the status of the Russian language), sending groups of armed individuals wearing unmarked uniforms across the border, organising acts of sabotage against critical infrastructures, staging provocations with an ethnic or cultural background, undertaking actions aimed at disrupting the operation of public administration (e.g. cyber-attacks on government servers) and conducting disinformation campaigns.

Die Menschen sowohl im Osten, wie auch im Westen der Ukraine werden in der bereits seit Jahren explizit von der Berliner Nomenklatura systematisch betriebenen Spaltung und damit Zerstörung des (nach Russland) größten Flächenstaates Osteuropas lediglich benutzt. Der Öffentlichkeit, gerade der in einem der reichsten und einflussreichsten Länder auf dem Planeten, nämlich Deutschland – wird eine Konfrontation vorgegaukelt, die so nicht existiert. Dienen soll diese inszenierte Dialektik zweier sich bekriegender Seiten ausschließlich den imperialen Zwecken der seit bald dreizehn Jahren weltweit wie ein Krebsgeschwür wuchernden Kriegsgewinnlern, feudalen Finanzmogulen, Spionage-Apparaten, Kontrollbehörden, etc. Deren Interesse bedient ein Zerfall, eine Zerstörung der Ukraine, als Dynamo für ein Fortsetzen des bald dreizehnjährigen Krieges „on terror“, mit dem nun nichtfiktiven, sehr realen Feind Russland, China, bzw umgekehrt dem „Westen“.

I can‘t speculate because I haven‘t been there. But I can only tell you that from other wars and other conflicts, we know that the more intense the fighting, the longer it takes to restore and rehabilitate.
If we take the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, where 600 oil wells were set on fire, where you had oil spills everywhere, that took decades. And that was just oil. It was not other things and it was not a protracted war. So, you need to understand that you can have pollution three meters down in the soil. And that will take a very long time.

The Kremlin aide added that the political and social cost of EU integration could also be high, and allowed for the possibility of separatist movements springing up in the Russian-speaking east and south of Ukraine. He suggested that if Ukraine signed the agreement, Russia would consider the bilateral treaty that delineates the countries‘ borders to be void.
„We don‘t want to use any kind of blackmail. This is a question for the Ukrainian people,“ said Glazyev. „But legally, signing this agreement about association with EU, the Ukrainian government violates the treaty on strategic partnership and friendship with Russia.“ When this happened, he said, Russia could no longer guarantee Ukraine‘s status as a state and could possibly intervene if pro-Russian regions of the country appealed directly to Moscow.

Glasjew deutete nach dem Bruch der Ukraine mit Russland an, dass Russland den Vertrag, der die Grenzen zwischen den beiden Ländern festlegt, als ungültig betrachten würde und erwähnte, dass im russischsprachigen Osten und Süden der Ukraine separatistische Bewegungen aufkommen könnten. Russland könne den Status der Ukraine als Staat nicht mehr garantieren und werde möglicherweise intervenieren, wenn sich prorussische Regionen des Landes direkt an Moskau wenden würden, so der Kremlberater.

Insbesondere rund um die Städte Sjewjerodonezk und Lyssytschansk liefern sich beide Seiten derzeit heftige Gefechte im Donbas. Es sind die letzten Städte der Region Luhansk, die Russland noch nicht erobert hat.

Wie der ukrainische Gasnetzbetreiber GTSOU mitteilte, stellt das Land von heute an den Transit von russischem Gas im Gebiet Luhansk im Osten der Ukraine ein. Damit fielen bis zu 32,6 Millionen Kubikmeter Gas pro Tag weg, teilte GTSOU mit. Das sei fast ein Drittel der täglich über die Ukraine nach Europa transportierbaren Höchstmenge.
Bisher war man davon ausgegangen, dass die russische Armee vor allem bei schwerem Gerät und Feuerkampf haushoch überlegen ist. Mittlerweile zirkulieren aber vom US-Verteidigungsministerium geäußerte Spekulationen, dass die Verluste Russlands so hoch seien, dass die Ukraine vor allem durch Lieferungen von T-72-Panzern aus europäischen Ländern mehr Panzer im Land habe als Russland.
A senior Russian military commander has said that the goal of Russia’s new offensive is to seize control of southern Ukraine and form a land bridge to Crimea, indicating that Russia plans a permanent occupation of Ukrainian territory taken in the war.
Rustam Minnekayev, acting commander of the central military district, also told members of a defence industry forum on Friday that control over southern Ukraine would give Russia access to Transnistria, a pro-Russian breakaway region of Moldova, indicating that Russia may attack the port city of Odesa.

1. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing for the decisive battle for the Donbas area.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi has stated on Facebook that the Russian army is trying to break through the defence line in several directions, focusing its main efforts on the Iziumskyi.
The threat from the sea was significantly reduced due to the sinking of the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the russian federation. However, the danger of landing naval and airborne troops remains. In this regard, measures are being taken to strengthen air defence, including logistical technical assistance from partner countries.
As the chances fade that Russia will decapitate Ukraine’s government and seize the capital, concerns are growing that Moscow could seek to force Kyiv to give up part of its territory to end the five-week war and eke out some form of victory.
Ukrainian leaders warned of such a possibility this week, saying they will not accept any peace deal that requires ceding land.

The massacre of almost 50 Maidan protesters on February 20, 2014 was a turning point in Ukrainian politics and a tipping point in the conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine. This mass killing of the protesters and the mass shooting of the police that preceded it led to the overthrow of the pro-Russian government of Viktor Yanukovych and gave a start to a civil war in Donbas in Eastern Ukraine, Russian military intervention in Crimea and Donbas, and an international conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine. A conclusion promoted by the post-Yanukovych governments and the media in Ukraine that the massacre was perpetrated by government snipers and special police units on a Yanukovych order has been nearly universally accepted by the Western governments, the media, and many scholars. The Ukrainian government investigation identified members of the special company of Berkut as responsible for killings of the absolute majority of the protesters, but did not release any evidence in support, with the exception of videos of the massacre. The question is which side organized the “snipers’ massacre.” This paper is the first academic study of this crucial case of the mass killing. It uses a theory of rational choice and a Weberian theory of instrumental rationality to examine actions of major actors both from the Yanukovych government, specifically various police and security forces, and the Maidan opposition, specifically its far right and oligarchic elements, during the massacre. The paper analyzes a large amount of evidence from different publicly available sources concerning this massacre and killings of specifics protestors. Qualitative content analysis includes the following data: about 1,500 videos and recordings of live internet and TV broadcasts from mass media and social media in different countries (some 150 Gigabytes) , news reports and social media posts by more than 100 journalists covering the massacre from Kyiv, some 5,000 photos, and nearly 30 gigabytes of publicly available radio intercepts of snipers and commanders from the special Alfa unit of the Security Service of Ukraine and Internal Troops, and Maidan massacre trial recordings. This study also employs field research on site of the massacre, eyewitness reports by both Maidan protesters and government special units commanders, statements by both former and current government officials, estimates of approximate ballistic trajectories, bullets and weapons used, and types of wounds among both protesters and the police. This study establishes a precise timeline for various events of the massacre, the locations of both the shooters and the government snipers, and the specific timeline and locations of nearly 50 protesters’ deaths. It also briefly analyzes other major cases of violence during and after the “Euromaidan.” This study includes two video appendixes. This academic investigation concludes that the massacre was a false flag operation, which was rationally planned and carried out with a goal of the overthrow of the government and seizure of power. It found various evidence of the involvement of an alliance of the far right organizations, specifically the Right Sector and Svoboda, and oligarchic parties, such as Fatherland. Concealed shooters and spotters were located in at least 20 Maidan-controlled buildings or areas. The various evidence that the protesters were killed from these locations include some 70 testimonies, primarily by Maidan protesters, several videos of “snipers” targeting protesters from these buildings, comparisons of positions of the specific protesters at the time of their killing and their entry wounds, and bullet impact signs. The study uncovered various videos and photos of armed Maidan “snipers” and spotters in many of these buildings. The paper presents implications of these findings for understanding the nature of the change of the government in Ukraine, the civil war in Donbas, Russian military intervention in Crimea and Donbas, and an international conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine.
In a statement, Eduard Basurin said that „the armed forces of the Donetsk People‘s Republic are attacking the positions of the Ukrainian Army along the entire line of contact, using every means of destruction available to them,“ he said.
Earlier the same morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced it had begun strikes against military targets across Ukraine, with explosions heard in major cities.
This was not a politician convening his team for discussions, this was a supreme leader marshalling his minions and ensuring collective responsibility for a decision that, at minimum, will change the security architecture in Europe, and may well lead to a horrific war that consumes Ukraine.
Putin appeared genuinely angry and passionate in his speech, which he almost certainly wrote himself.

“On President (Volodymyr) Zelensky’s initiative I officially requested UNSC member states to immediately hold consultations under article 6 of the Budapest memorandum,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted, citing the landmark 1994 deal, also signed by Russia, the United States and Britain.
The Kremlin announced Monday that Moscow will recognize the independence of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, a move that Russia could use to justify an attack in those areas.

– Contras und Doppelagenten auf beiden Seiten, sowohl den divergierenden Milizen des Putsch-Regimes, als auch bei den Separatisten und Aufständischen (von denen 99 % überhaupt keine Ahnung haben wozu sie benutzt werden und was da eigentlich vor sich geht), sorgen mit immer neuen Angriffen dafür, dass Verhandlungen und Waffenruhen immer wieder scheitern,
– die mittlerweile aus dem Westen aufgerüstete ukrainische Armee greift schließlich mit allem was sie hat den Osten an und richtet ein Blutbad an,
– Russland „kann gar nicht anders“ und marschiert ein.

Kiev has been locked in a civil war with the two breakaway territories since 2014, when separatists declared independent republics following the ousting of then-President Viktor Yanukovych during mass street protests. Ukrainian officials, along with Western countries, have accused Russia of supporting the rebels and fueling the conflict.
Die ukrainische Armee dementierte einen Beschuss von Stellungen prorussischer Separatisten. Obwohl man mit Artillerie beschossen worden sei, sei das Feuer nicht erwidert worden, sagte ein Sprecher der Regierungstruppen zu Reuters. For our part, we will do our best to find compromises that suit everyone. There is not a single point that we consider unachievable in the proposals we sent to NATO and Washington.
There is also the ongoing issue related to the situation in Donbass. The President said that Russia is conducting exercises and has amassed a large group of forces. But has Ukraine not amassed them also? They have the same 100,000 or 125,000 troops concentrated in Donbass.
To reiterate, they have tried to resolve the Donbass issue through military means twice, and they did not conceal this as they used equipment and aviation. Who will give us guarantees that this will not happen? This is also a legitimate question on our part.

Die Situation nach dem Putsch vom 22. Februar in Kiew haben die Meisten heute bereits vergessen.
Eine winzige Truppe von ein paar Tausend Personen hatte, mit enormer finanzieller Unterstützung durch Kapitalisten im In- und Ausland und nackter Gewalt von eingekauften Schlägern und Söldnern, zuerst die „Sicherheitskräfte“ des Präsidenten und dann ihn selbst verjagt. Ohne Schutz vor den nun willkürlich in der Hauptstadt marodierenden Maidan-Milizen, die sich vor der Rada aufgebaut haben und deren Anführer in dieser sitzen, sind sämtliche nachfolgenden „Beschlüsse“ des Parlaments ein Witz. Keiner kann die „Wahl“ von Milizenführer Turtschinow zum „Parlamentspräsidenten“ (22. Febuar) und dann gleich zum „Präsidenten“ (25. Februar) ernst nehmen; von der Wahl des „Übergangspremierministers“ Jazenjuk direkt auf dem Maidan-Platz ganz zu schweigen, dem die belagerte Rada dann noch eine lächerliche nachträgliche Legitimation hinterher warf.
Die reguläre Ordnung im Staat ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt überall am Zusammenbrechen oder bereits erodiert. Die finanzielle Situation des neuen Putsch-Regimes, des gesamten Staates, ist katastrophal. Große Teile des Sicherheitsapparates stehen gegen das Regime, vor allem im Militär. Im Putsch-Regime selbst gibt es schwerste Differenzen, angefangen vom blitzschnell in der Versenkung verschwindenden Wladimir Klitschko über seine Todfeindin Julia Timoschenko, den mit internationalen imperialistischen Bünden und Konsortien eng verwobenen Jazenjuk, die grobschlächtigen Massenmörder aus den verschiedenen Gruppen des „Rechten Sektors“, usw, usw. Hinzu kommt die sehr reale Gefahr, dass die Bergwerker und Fabrikarbeiter der Industriegebiete in der Ostukraine dem neuen Regime schlicht den Saft abdrehen, ein einziger Streik würde genügen (von den Möglichkeiten der eigentlichen Herrscher des Landes, den Oligarchen, die Geschicke der Ukraine zu beeinflussen einmal ganz zu schweigen).
Mit einem Wort: die Lage des neuen, vom Westblock mit brutaler Skrupellosigkeit in Kiew eingesetzten rechtsradikalen Putsch-Regimes ist Ende Februar katastrophal.
Nun aber naht dessen Rettung – aus Moskau.
