IADL Calls on UK Court to Grant Bail to Julian Assange, Ill and Vulnerable to COVID-19
Assange was too ill to attend his May 4 hearing, even by videoconference. In an open letter to The Lancet, 216 physicians and psychologists from 33 countries accused the UK and U.S. governments of exacerbating the psychological torture of Assange. Citing the Convention Against Torture, the signatories warned that UK officials could be held complicit and liable for their perpetration of, or silent acquiescence and consent to, Assange’s torture.

Netanyahu signals delay in West Bank annexation plan
Netanyahu made the comments shortly after wrapping up talks with White House envoy Avi Berkowitz and the U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. The sides have been holding talks for several months on finalizing a map spelling out which areas of the West Bank will be annexed by Israel.
„I spoke about the question of sovereignty, which we are working on these days and we will continue to work on in the coming days,“ Netanyahu said.
Der Fall „Curveball“: Wie ein BND-Informant den Irak-Krieg auslöste
(28.8.2011)
Netanyahu: ‚Iran continues secret program to develop nuclear weapons‘
He also commended the United States for the January drone strike that killed Quds force leader, „arch-terrorist“ Qasem Soleimani and warned that Israel will do everything necessary to make sure that Iran does not expand its foothold in Syria.
The comments were made during a joint press briefing with Brian Hook, US Special Representative on Iran, who visited Israel as part of his larger official Middle East trip.

Technical Notes: Provisional Death Counts for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
Coronavirus disease deaths are identified using the ICD–10 code U07.1. Deaths are coded to U07.1 when coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 are reported as a cause that contributed to death on the death certificate. These can include laboratory confirmed cases, as well as cases without laboratory confirmation. If the certifier suspects COVID-19 or determines it was likely (e.g., the circumstances were compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty), they can report COVID-19 as “probable” or “presumed” on the death certificate (5, 6).

CDC wants states to count ‘probable’ coronavirus cases and deaths, but most aren’t doing it
(08.06.2020)
In April, as coronavirus infections multiplied and laboratory testing was limited, the CSTE and the CDC advised states to count both probable cases and deaths — where symptoms and exposure pointed to infection — along with those confirmed by tests.
Yet weeks after the guidance was handed down to standardize coronavirus reporting, a Post review found states as of early June counting cases and deaths in all sorts of ways.
At least 24 states are not heeding the national guidelines on reporting probable cases and deaths, despite previously identifying probable cases in other national outbreaks, including H1N1 flu during the country’s last pandemic in 2009.

Order from Chaos: What Americans think about the looming Israeli annexation and Trump’s Middle East plan
How do Americans feel about the offer, and about possible Israeli annexation of West Bank territories?
To find out, we fielded a set of questions through the University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll. The poll was carried out by Nielsen Scarborough, among a nationally representative sample of 2,395 American adults, fielded March 10-20.
Notably, only 8% of respondents who were at least “somewhat familiar” with the plan …
15 members of the Israeli Knesset’s Joint List sent a letter to Democrats, calling on them to oppose annexation: „Democrats have a decision to make. Will they keep wringing their hands and expressing ‘concern,’ or are they going to do something about it?“
POLITICO Playbook: The coming intel power struggle
THIS ISN’T OVER A SINGLE PIECE OF LEGISLATION or a specific policy, but rather something far more valuable: the access to information and intelligence. THE WHITE HOUSE and the administration have it, and Congress wants it — and believes it’s entitled to it.
AT ISSUE: the NYT report about Russians allegedly paying bounties to the Taliban in Afghanistan to kill American soldiers.
From pandering to Putin to abusing allies and ignoring his own advisers, Trump‘s phone calls alarm US officials
In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Donald Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and so abusive to leaders of America‘s principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials — including his former secretaries of state and defense, two national security advisers and his longest-serving chief of staff — that the President himself posed a danger to the national security of the United States, according to White House and intelligence officials intimately familiar with the contents of the conversations.
Benjamin Netanyahu has asked American evangelical supporters to lobby in favor of annexing parts of the West Bank in an attempt to press President Trump to give Israel the green light for annexing parts of the West Bank
(29.06.2020)
Why it matters: Israeli officials say Netanyahu thinks President Trump is politically vulnerable four months before the U.S. election and that he could lose to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. He thinks Trump needs the evangelical base to go to vote in order to have a chance at winning.
IDF generals urge Trump to stand behind Netanyahu’s sovereignty plan
(23.06.2020)
The idea of Israeli sovereignty over 30% of the West Bank, including all of the settlements, is already incorporated into Trump‘s peace plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
However, Israel can do so only with approval from the US.
Trump’s endorsement crucial for Netanyahu’s annexation plan
(23.06.2020)
“[Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is entirely dependent on [President Donald] Trump for the annexation. We have no illusions that he would operate against decisions taken in the White House.” These words were told to Al-Monitor by a senior Likud minister speaking on condition of anonymity.
