On Global Encryption Day, Let‘s Stand Up for Privacy and Security
We’ve seen big victories in our fight to defend encryption. But we haven’t done it alone. That’s why we’re proud this year to join dozens of other organizations in the Global Encryption Coalition as we celebrate the first Global Encryption Day, which is today, October 21, 2021.
For this inaugural year, we’re joining our partner organizations to ask people, companies, governments, and NGOs to “Make the Switch” to strong encryption. We’re hoping this day can encourage people to make the switch to end-to-end encrypted platforms, creating a more secure and private online world. It’s a great time to turn on encryption on all the devices or services you use, or switch to an end-to-end encrypted app for messaging—and talk to others about why you made that choice.
VIDEO: 7 Times McAuliffe Confirmed He Thinks Parents Should Have No Say in Their Child‘s Education
FALLS CHURCH, VA – Political outsider, successful business leader, and Republican nominee for governor Glenn Youngkin’s campaign spokeswoman Macaulay Porter released the following statement regarding Terry McAuliffe’s new TV ad in which he laughably claims his comments about parents and schools are being taken “out of context.”
“Two weeks before Election Day, Terry McAuliffe is struggling to save his campaign,” said Porter. “After 3 weeks of confirming more than half a dozen times that he meant exactly what he said in the debate, McAuliffe has been ordered by panicked DC Democrats to stop spouting anti-parent screeds. But it’s too late – Terry showed us his heart. This is what he believes. His attempt to fool Virginians is pathetic, and parents know the truth because the videos don’t lie. Terry will have to answer for that in two weeks on Election Day.”
Virginia is for worriers: Governor race poses real risk to Dem agenda
(16.10.2021)
Losing ground in a Virginia gubernatorial campaign once seen as a near-lock for Democrats, McAuliffe has sought to nationalize the race — calling out congressional inaction and President Joe Biden’s waning popularity as he tries to mount a return to an office he held four years ago. If McAuliffe loses, it could put a chill on Democrats’ agenda and prompt hand-wringing over whether the party failed to boost him enough in a difficult race against Republican Glenn Youngkin.
The Virginia governor’s race: A first major test for Democrats in the Biden era
(October 19, 2021)
Virginia’s gubernatorial race is tightening as Election Day nears. Democrat Terry McAuliffe remains the narrow favorite, but a victory by Republican Glenn Youngkin would be felt nationwide, and could spell trouble for President Biden’s agenda ahead of next year’s midterms.

The White House on Wednesday announced plans to distribute vaccines to a huge group that has been ineligible so far to receive the coronavirus shots — 28 million children aged 5 to 11. The operation is slated to begin as soon as federal health officials sign off on a reduced dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which the Biden administration anticipates could come as soon as the first week of November.

EU-Debatte: Keine Einigung in Sicht

The Deadly Bombing in Syria Threatens to Drag Turkey and Russia Into a Military Confrontation
It appears that Turkey, despite the commitments it made to Russia, not only finds it very hard to impose its will on the militias but is in no hurry to do so. It sees control of Idlib as a bargaining chip it can use to win concessions from Moscow over other parts of Syria. Turkey argues that Russia hasn’t kept its end of the bargain to evacuate Kurdish forces from the border area between it and Syria, in particular from the cities of Manbij and Tell Rifaat. Thus, in response to Moscow’s demands to expel militants from Idlib, Ankara is demanding that the Russians move ahead with their pa
Bus bombs kill 14 in Syria capital; shells elsewhere kill 10
Shortly after the Damascus bombings, government shells landed in a rebel-held town in northern Syria, killing at least 10 people, four of them children. The attack, part of the government campaign to regain control of areas still in opposition hands, was the worst violence in the region since a truce in March last year was negotiated by Turkey and Russia, allies of the opposition and Syrian government, respectively.
