When Encryption Meets Quantum
(May 14, 2026)
Quantum processors can evaluate many possible solutions in parallel rather than sequentially. This capability has profound implications for cryptography. Today’s most widely deployed encryption schemes, RSA and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), can be broken and rendered obsolete by a quantum computer.
Everything from industrial IoT sensors and automotive control systems to cloud infrastructure and secure boot mechanisms relies on RSA or ECC for encryption today. When quantum computers reach the scale required to break these algorithms, that entire trust architecture collapses simultaneously.
Compounding the urgency is an attack vector already in use: Harvest now, decrypt later.
As AIPAC Spends Millions to Oust Him, Massie Unveils Bill Requiring Pro-Israel Lobby to Register as Foreign Agent
As the Israel lobby attempts to end his political career, the Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced a bill that would require lobbyists working for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, commonly known as AIPAC, to register as foreign agents.
The bill, known as the Americans Insist on Political Agent Clarity (AIPAC) Act, would amend the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938 (FARA), which requires those working to influence government policy on behalf of a foreign power to register with the US Department of Justice (DOJ).
‘He’s Just a Bad Person’: Lone Democrat Jared Golden Joins GOP to Block Iran War Powers Resolution
Though Golden, who is not seeking reelection this year, was an original cosponsor of the resolution (H.Con.Res.75) offered by fellow Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) back in March, he became the deciding vote in the 212-212 tie when it finally hit the floor—even as two Republicans broke with their party for the first time to support such a measure.
As The Washington Post notes, the resolution was “proposed early in the war by a faction of pro-Israel Democrats—Golden among them—as a compromise intended to win some Republican backing.” While it did win three Republican votes in the end, it was Golden who helped sink it.
WATCH: More than one million Lebanese forced from homes by Israel
More than one million people in Lebanon have been displaced by Israeli attacks, including Palestinian refugees reliving decades of loss and displacement.
Many families remain without homes as communities in Beirut’s southern suburbs face widespread destruction and ongoing insecurity.
Watch Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr report below:
President Abbas: The Palestinian cause will remain the greatest test of the international system and its credibility
Excellencies, Heads of Delegations and Representatives of States and International Organizations
Ladies and Gentlemen
Today, in these difficult circumstances that our people are enduring, we commemorate the seventy-eighth anniversary of the Nakba, the catastrophe that is ongoing until this very day, and the crime of ethnic cleansing inflicted upon our Palestinian people. This crime, carried out by Zionist militias with the support of colonial powers, led to the uprooting of 950,000 Palestinians from their cities and villages, and their removal from the land of their ancestors, which they had inherited and inhabited for thousands of years, to be displaced and replaced, transforming them into a people of refugees, witness to the attempts to steal, falsify and erase their history and heritage.
This heinous crime, the Nakba, was accompanied by numerous massacres during which tens of thousands of our people were slaughtered and killed, and their cities and villages destroyed. More than 531 towns and villages, once vibrant with cultural, economic, social, and political life, were erased.
We will not leave, and we will not forget.
We, the Palestinian people and our refugees, did not emigrate from Palestine nor leave it voluntarily in 1948, as Israel and the Zionist movement have claimed, rather, we were forcibly and coercively expelled from it. The truth is that the Palestinian people rose up repeatedly to defend their historic homeland and their existence on their land. We still remember the Palestinian revolution of 1936–1939, but colonial powers provided the Zionists with every means and force necessary to seize the land of Palestine by force of arms.
The Zionist movement’s reliance on false narratives, mythology, and the infamous Balfour Declaration from the colonial era, along with the selective manipulation of fabricated historical events does not create rights, nor does it nullify the deeply rooted historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination. It also does not negate international law or the Charter of the United Nations.

Pezeshkian hails Pope’s ‘moral stance’ against US-Israeli war on Iran
In a message addressed to the leader of the world’s Catholics, Pezeshkian stated that the “destructive approach” of the United States and Israel, along with their “illegitimate attacks,” are not directed solely against Iran.
He argued that they are an assault on the rule of law at the global level, international law, human values, and the teachings of divine religions, adding that the costs of this dangerous approach will inevitably be borne by the entire international community.
Former senior Canadian diplomats urge Ottawa to impose ‚robust‘ sanctions on Israel
It also says a high civilian death toll in Lebanon suggests Israel is violating international law. Israel says the campaign is targeting Hezbollah.
“While Canada recognizes Israel’s legitimate security concerns regarding Hezbollah, the razing of entire towns and the high civilian death toll is a serious violation of international law,” reads the letter, which was signed by 190 former diplomats who held high-ranking positions.
It follows on a similar letter issued last July that demanded Canada halt all arms trade with Israel.
Gulf States to Win NATO Summit Invites With Iran War on Agenda
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is planning to invite representative from four Gulf states to the summit in Ankara with the Iran war and the transatlantic rift likely to loom large over the talks, said people familiar with the matter.
The countries — Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — are all members of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, a partnership between NATO and non-members in the broader Middle East.

Graphic: Track U.S., state and county gas prices
Gas prices in the United States, up by 50% since the U.S. and Israel launched the war, have soared as the global oil supply constricts.
Now at a national average of more than $4.50 per gallon, according to data from motor club AAA, this price increase is straining already-stretched budgets in households across the country.
Why the Price of Gas Is the Most Important Number in US Politics
Gasoline accounts for a shrinking share of household budgets, but its political power can still make or break a presidency.
Trump Says Gas Prices Might Not Drop by Midterms, Underscoring G.O.P. Peril
(April 12, 2026)
Mr. Trump had long downplayed a sharp spike in gas prices driven by the war in Iran by casting it as a “short-term increase” that would subside within weeks. But on Sunday, Mr. Trump told Fox News that while he hoped gas and oil costs would drop before the midterms, prices “should be around the same” in November — and might be “a little bit higher.”

Exclusive: Hackers have breached tank readers at US gas stations; officials suspect Iran is responsible
But, the sources cautioned, the US government may not be able to definitively determine who was responsible because of a lack of forensic evidence left by the hackers.
CNN has requested comment on the ATG hack from the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The FBI declined to comment.
