According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at least eight people were killed in the Russian airstrikes in Kiev, and dozens were injured. The Kyiv Independent newspaper reported the death toll was at least 10.
The Russian military used not only drones but also ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic missiles.
Russia has killed at least 23 people including four children in a massive wave of drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital that has drawn international condemnation.
Sir Keir Starmer accused Vladimir Putin of “sabotaging hopes of peace” with the attacks that took place in the early hours of Thursday and saw more than 600 drones and over 30 missiles launched.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
„We discussed diplomatic efforts – ours and those of our partners. Russia ignores all calls from the world for a ceasefire and continues the killings. In addition, the Russians have not been able to present the so-called ‚memorandum‘ for more than a week, which they promised to prepare immediately after the 1,000-for-1,000 exchange. Ukraine has not received any documents from them. Turkey has not either. In order for the meeting to be not empty, it is necessary to understand its agenda and properly prepare for the negotiations. Unfortunately, Russia is doing everything to ensure that the next possible meeting is inefficient,“ Zelenskyy said in the Telegram channel following the results of the meeting.

Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight, injuring 15 people in one of the biggest assaults on the Ukrainian capital since the war began. The attack came in waves, with Russia launching 14 ballistic missiles and 250 drones in the early hours of Saturday, although Ukrainian forces said they shot down six missiles and stopped most of the drones before they reached Kyiv.
Missile debris and unintercepted bombs caused damage in six districts of the city.
Footage shows the Kyiv skyline at night illuminated by sweeping drone searchlights. The low hum and buzz of drones flying close overhead is heard, building tension. Suddenly, a loud explosion erupts nearby, shaking buildings and lighting up the sky. Flames and smoke rise as emergency sirens wail in the distance. The scene captures the intensity of the ongoing aerial assault on the Ukrainian capital.
The number of deaths from the Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv on Thursday night has reached 10 people, the State Emergency Service reported.
U.S. President Donald Trump‘s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, lauded on Feb. 21 „positive discussions“ he held with President Volodymyr Zelensky a day earlier.
„A long and intense day with the senior leadership of Ukraine,“ Kellogg said on X after his meetings with Zelensky and top Ukrainian officials in Kyiv this week.
„Extensive and positive discussions with (President Volodymyr Zelensky), the embattled and courageous leader of a nation at war, and his talented national security team.“
Kellogg‘s visit comes amid a tense atmosphere as Trump adopts increasingly hostile rhetoric toward President Volodymyr Zelensky while planning a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On his first day in Kyiv, Kellogg met Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak, and intelligence and security chiefs, Zelensky revealed.
„We discussed in detail the situation on the battlefield, the ways to repatriate all our prisoners of war, as well as effective security guarantees. From the very first moment of this war, Ukraine has been striving for peace. We can and must achieve a durable and lasting peace to ensure that Russia never returns with war,“ he said.
„It was a good conversation with many details [discussed]. I am grateful to the United States for all its assistance and bipartisan support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,“ Zelenskyy said in the message.
He also thanked Kellogg for their joint efforts in achieving important results.

In Kyiv, the death toll as a result of a morning missile strike has risen to eight people, the search and rescue operation continues, Head of Kyiv City Military Administration Serhiy Popko said.

On 15 November Mykhailo Podoliak, Ukrainian presidential advisor, said that Nuzhin had agreed to participate in prisoner exchange.
A source in Ukrainian army told BBC that Nuzhin was returned to Russia in exchange for twenty Ukrainian servicemen freed from Russian captivity. The source, as well as journalist Ramina Eshakzai, who interviewed Nuzhin, both opined that as soon as they could get Ukrainian soldiers in exchange, they did not care what happened to Nuzhin.

The delegation from South Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Congo-Brazzaville, Comoros, Zambia, and Uganda is meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday and President Vladimir Putin on Saturday.
But the timing of the visit seems off. It comes just as Kyiv is launching its much-vaunted counter-offensive.
„The air raid siren in Kyiv region lasted for more than three hours today. The enemy attacked the area with shaheds. The police of Kyiv region are documenting the consequences of an enemy attack on the region. In one of the residential complexes, as a result of the attack, people received shrapnel wounds, head injuries and bruises,“ Nebytov said on the Telegram channel.

He praised the “importance” of China’s mediating role, including in the Black Sea Initiative that allowed for the resumption of grain exports through the Black Sea, and in nuclear safety.
The two sides also agreed to “intensify dialogue on key issues.”
Or did Beijing deliberately keep low profile on that as no results are guaranteed at this moment?
A Ukrainian government official told AFP that China’s high-ranking diplomat Li Hui “will be in Kyiv May 16 and 17.”
Beijing had announced his visit last week, saying Li would also visit Russia and other European nations.
