UNBOUND
Unbound is a validating, recursive, caching DNS resolver. It is designed to be fast and lean and incorporates modern features based on open standards.
To help increase online privacy, Unbound supports DNS-over-TLS and DNS-over-HTTPS which allows clients to encrypt their communication. In addition, it supports various modern standards that limit the amount of data exchanged with authoritative servers. These standards do not only improve privacy but also help making the DNS more robust. The most important are Query Name Minimisation, the Aggressive Use of DNSSEC-Validated Cache and support for authority zones, which can be used to load a copy of the root zone.
The History of BIND
The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) package was originally written in the early 1980s at the University of California at Berkeley as a graduate-student project, under a grant from the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA).

What is a DNS BIND Server?
May 14, 2025
A DNS BIND server is essentially the world‘s most widely used software for running a Domain Name System (DNS) server, developed as part of the Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) software collection.
BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is a software collection of tools including the world‘s most widely used DNS (Domain Name System) server software.

DNS over TLS with pfSense
Thanks to Unbound, the built-in DNS resolver, which has been enabled by default since pfSense version 2.3, makes configuring DNS over TLS a very simple task with pfSense.

Known DNS Providers
Here we suggest a list of trusted DNS providers.
How to change DNS settings on every device
(August 12, 2022)
By default, your home network likely relies on a DNS server provided by your internet provider. However, these servers aren’t always the fastest and, in some cases, may even allow your ISP to maliciously track your online behavior. To that end, if internet speed and privacy matter a lot, you should perhaps consider changing your DNS server.
The best way to change your DNS server is at the router level, which will affect every single device connected to it.

Why DNS Security Is Your First Defense Against Cyber Attacks?
(June 11, 2025)
Some of the most common DNS-based attacks include:
DNS Spoofing – Trick the resolver into sending users to fake websites that look real.
DNS Hijacking – Change DNS records or settings to reroute traffic through malicious servers.
DNS Tunneling – Hide stolen data inside DNS traffic to sneak it past firewalls.
DDoS on DNS Servers – Overwhelm DNS infrastructure, making websites and apps unreachable.
These aren‘t just technical tricks – they‘re methods that can take entire businesses offline, compromise sensitive data, or silently spy on users. That‘s why securing DNS is no longer optional – it‘s a frontline defense.
Encrypted DNS Factsheet: What is DNS, and Why is it Critical?
(May 3, 2023)
While the DNS has been refined and extended since it was standardized in 1983, its privacy properties have not. As designed, DNS information is sent unencrypted across the Internet, and thus is viewable by anyone along the path, resulting in lack of privacy.
Perhaps the biggest risk is that it’s so easy to forget DNS exists…! It’s hard to know or care about something you never see.
The number of people with Top Secret clearance will shock you
(August 16, 2022)
The Director of National Intelligence publishes what is described as an annual report, “Security Clearance Determinations,” although the most recent one I could find was from 2017.
In it, more than 2.8 million people are described as having security clearance as of October 2017 – more than 1.6 million have access to either Confidential or Secret information and nearly 1.2 million are described as having access to Top Secret information.
Pentagon investigator admits to faking dozens of Top Secret security clearance background checks
(June 11, 2025)
Of 39 allegedly fraudulent investigations Nousheen Qureshi carried out over the course of more than a year for the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency, at least a half-dozen included fabricated “interviews” with people who later said they had never even heard from her at all, according to a plea agreement obtained first by The Independent.

Trump administration plans to limit classified info it shares with Congress on Iran attack
The administration is planning to limit classified information it shares on CAPNET, the classified information sharing system used by both the House and Senate, the sources said.
It was not immediately clear how much information the administration plans to limit moving forward.
Congress moves to put the brakes on Trump‘s unilateral bombing
Meanwhile, Congress is currently debating whether and how to rein in Trump‘s war making power, with votes possible by the end of this week. There are two competing House bills, one bipartisan War Powers Resolution (WPR) sponsored by Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Tom Massie (R-Ky.), and another by Reps. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), Adam Smith (D-Wash.) and Jim Himes (D-Conn.). Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) introduced a Senate version and that one is likely to get a vote by Friday.

Brad Lander Is the Happiest Loser
In the last few days of this race, you spoke often about your alliance with Mamdani, saying “Jewish New Yorkers and Muslim New Yorkers are not going to be divided.” What has it been like for you to promote this example of solidarity between the two of you at a time when many have sought to drive a wedge between these two communities?
The year and a half plus since October 7 has been excruciating. I am a proud Jewish New Yorker, the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in city government, and these issues matter a lot to me. Watching surging antisemitism culminating in these horrific incidents in D.C. and Boulder has been really frightening. I’ve talked to a lot of Jewish New Yorkers who are anxious. For me, that’s always gone along with believing in equal humanity. We have this Jewish term, b’tzelem Elohim. That means everyone’s equally created in God’s image. Palestinian kids in Gaza deserve just as much safety and opportunity to thrive as my kids do.

Knesset Holds Impeachment Hearing for Hadash MK Ayman Odeh
The Knesset Home Committee held an impeachment hearing against Hadash-Ta’al chair MK Ayman Odeh on Tuesday morning, June 24, after far-right Likud MK Avihai Boaron in recent weeks collected 70 signatures from MKs in favor of launching the procedure who received the support of opposition MKs from three Zionist parties – Yisrael Beytenu, National Unity, and Yesh Atid.
Penalties for Hadash MKs Who Called Occupation Soldiers ‘Murderers’
Odeh was punished with salary deduction and suspended from the plenum and Knesset committees for two weeks, among other things for statements that “what the army is doing in Gaza is murder and massacre.” Touma-Sliman and Tibi were suspended from the plenum and the Knesset for three days, following posts in which they referred to Israeli soldiers in Gaza as “murderers and occupiers.”
Netanyahu surges in first poll after Iran war, Bennett‘s bloc remains ahead, election poll finds
A majority of 52% of the public supports a ceasefire with Iran, including 66% of opposition voters and 34% of coalition voters. On the other hand, 33% oppose the ceasefire (almost half of coalition voters), and 15% have no opinion.
The public is even more decisive on the issue of ending the war in Gaza and signing a deal for the release of hostages: 67% support the deal, including 90% of opposition voters and 67% of undecided voters. However, most coalition voters (54%) oppose the deal.
Israel kills 100 Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday
Aljazeera Arabic‘s Gaza correspondent Anas al-Sharif revealed on Wednesday that 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israel in the Strip since dawn.
Zohran Mamdani’s victory in NYC mayoral primary leaves Wall Street ‘alarmed’ and ‘depressed’
In fact, high-profile investors and business leaders in the Big Apple are up in arms about the stunning win by the democratic socialist in the primary to win the Democratic nomination to serve as the next New York City mayor. The three-term Assemblymember’s potential victory in the November general election could bring what the Street hates most — tax hikes and tighter regulation threatening corporate and investment interests.
