The Supreme Court temporarily blocked the Trump administration early Saturday from deporting another group of Venezuelan migrants accused of being gang members under the expansive powers of a rarely invoked wartime law.

“The government is directed not to remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this court,” the court said in a brief, unsigned order that gave no reasoning, as is typical in emergency cases.

Supreme Court blocks, for now, new deportations under 18th century wartime law

The high court acted in an emergency appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union contending that immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart removals under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The Supreme Court had said earlier in April that deportations could proceed only if those about to be removed had a chance to argue their case in court and were given “a reasonable time” to contest their pending removals.

„Die Grünen“ und „Die Linke“ werden von oben, über deren Kader, durch die transatlantische Atlantikbrücke gelenkt. Alle derzeitigen Bundestagsparteien sind in Überparteien auf E.U.-Ebene organisiert. Eine tatsächliche Opposition findet parlamentarisch nicht statt. Und außerparlamentarisch ist die Opposition schwach, verwirrt und in großen Teilen ebenfalls nicht mehr verfassungstreu und schwafelt genauso von „Europa“ wie anno dünnemal der Pfaffe auf der Kanzel zum ausgeplünderten Pöbel über dessen Heil nach dem Tod.

Allen, die sich als klassische Sozialdemokratinnen und Sozialdemokraten in der Tradition von Rosa und Karl, oder mindestens Willy Brandt sehen, alle die sich als links, sozialistisch, emanzipatorisch, Bürgerrechtler oder liberalistisch sehen, rate ich dringend jetzt die Faxen und das ganze Geschwafel zu lassen und zur Tat zu schreiten.

Ohne Partei wird in der Republik nichts besser werden. Und so oder so muss es eine Partei für die Republik sein, und nicht gegen sie.

As Barbara Lee presciently warned her colleagues before she cast her lone dissenting vote in 2001, we have “become the evil we deplore.” But these wars have not been accompanied by fearsome military parades (not yet) or speeches about conquering the world. Instead they have been politically justified by “information warfare” to demonize enemies and fabricate crises, and then waged in a “disguised, quiet, media free” way, to hide their cost in human blood from the American public and the world.

After 16 years of war, about 6 million violent deaths, 6 countries utterly destroyed and many more destabilized, it is urgent that the American public come to terms with the true human cost of our country’s wars and how we have been manipulated and misled into turning a blind eye to them – before they go on even longer, destroy more countries, further undermine the rule of international law and kill millions more of our fellow human beings.

The Other Side of Signalgate

American Presidents have struck Yemen before, often pointing to the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, a joint resolution passed after 9/11, which gave the President the power to attack terrorist targets in foreign countries without a formal “declaration of war.” But Trump hasn’t invoked the A.U.M.F.; instead, he echoed aides who say that it is within the President’s constitutional power to launch attacks for defensive purposes. His predecessors, too, seemed to operate with that license: most recently, the Biden Administration continued to strike Houthi targets, without Congressional approval, even after taking the Houthis off the list of foreign terrorist organizations.
