Cyprus president fires police chief over serial killer investigations
A day earlier, Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou stepped down. He said his resignation was not an assumption of blame, but that there were “apparent shortcomings” in how police, which come under his ministry’s supervision, had investigated the reports of the women’s disappearances. Police say they will conduct an investigation into any perceived shortcomings.

The Bush administration has tried to distance itself from the coup. It immediately endorsed the new government under businessman Pedro Carmona. But the coup was sent dramatically into reverse after 48 hours.
Now officials at the Organisation of American States and other diplomatic sources, talking to The Observer, assert that the US administration was not only aware the coup was about to take place, but had sanctioned it, presuming it to be destined for success.

Gunshots rang out, and by that evening 19 people were dead, including both supporters and opponents of the government.[6] Then, the military high command started the coup at Miraflores and demanded that Chávez resign. President Chávez refused to resign, and he subsequently was arrested by the military.[12][13][14] Chávez‘s request for asylum in Cuba was denied, and he was ordered to be tried in a Venezuelan court.[9]

The first website at CERN – and in the world – was dedicated to the World Wide Web project itself. Last April CERN initiated a project to restore the first website, and to bring back the spirit of that time through its technical innovation and the founding principles of openness and freedom.
In 1993 CERN put the World Wide Web software in the public domain.
