Assistant Secretary Fannon Travel to Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt

Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis R. Fannon will travel to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem; Nicosia, and Cairo from November 11 to 20, 2018. During his trip, Assistant Secretary Fannon will be meeting with government officials and private sector representatives to discuss energy security and regional cooperation on energy issues.

US energy official to tour East Med

US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis Fannon will travel to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Nicosia, and Cairo starting Monday, November 11 to 20, the State Department announced on Friday.

During his trip, Fannon will be meeting with government officials and private sector representatives to discuss energy security and regional cooperation on energy issues.

Christodoulides meets US National Security Advisor John Bolton

Earlier on Wednesday, Christodoulides visited the American Hellenic Institute and met with its President, Nick Larigakis, and also met with the leadership of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Diplomatic sources said it has been agreed that President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades be the keynote speaker at the AIPAC Congress in Washington, in March.

Cyprus to step up security checks in cash-for-citizenship scheme

Cyprus has sought to curb criticism of its golden visa scheme, saying it will tighten vetting procedures for investors determined to acquire European citizenship.

With disapproval of the controversial cash-for-citizenship programme on the rise, the island announced that security checks would be stepped up. Under the renamed “Cypriot investment scheme” the number of passports granted would be capped at 700.

Protesters demand closure of UK airbase in Cyprus

Protest leader Akis Poullos told the Associated Press that demonstrators are demanding the closure of RAF Akrotiri, from where four British Tornado warplanes took off to take part in Friday night’s missile strike.

Poullos said Sunday’s demonstration also wanted to send the message to the Cyprus government not to lend any assistance to „imperialist attacks“ on Syria and to demand an end to the war in the country.
