State Department is firing more than 1,300 staff on Friday

The State Department has begun firing more than 1,300 people as part of a dramatic overhaul of the agency, according to a State Department official.

The firings will affect 1,107 civil service and 246 foreign service officers, an internal notice seen by CNN said. It comes as the State Department implements a drastic reorganization as part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to shrink the federal government.

The White House said in a statement Saturday that Trump was deploying the Guardsmen to “address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester” in California.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, objected to the move and said in a post on X that the move from the Republican president was “purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.”

France Weighs Stationing Nuclear-Armed Jets in Germany

(February 25, 2025)

His visit follows talks with Friedrich Merz, the likely next German chancellor, who has urged the UK and France to strengthen Europe’s independent nuclear security capabilities.

The proposal under discussion involves stationing French Dassault Rafale fighter jets, equipped with nuclear weapons, on German soil. This move would serve both as a deterrent against potential Russian aggression and as a signal of Europe’s ability to act independently of the United States in defence matters.

According to The Telegraph, French officials have indicated that such a deployment would not be technically difficult and could send a powerful strategic message.

Merz considers extension of French, British nuclear umbrella to Germany

(February 21, 2025)

An extension of the French and British nuclear deterrent to other European countries has been on the table for several years, but has gained more urgency with the gradual withdrawal of the US from Europe‘s security architecture.

Most recently in early 2024, France’s Emmanuel Macron had pitched the creation of a new ‚strategic dialogue‘ on the French nuclear strategy with key European partners, and offered joint deterrence exercises.

Macron echoed this perspective in a live chat on social media on Thursday evening.

Gantz: ‚We will enter Rafah and go back to Khan Yunis‘

National Unity chairman Benny Gantz said during a press conference in Sderot on Wednesday that Hamas was militarily defeated following the IDF‘s operation in Gaza.

„From a military point of view – Hamas is defeated. Its fighters are eliminated or in hiding. Its abilities are cut off, and we will continue to strike what remains.

Gantz: Hamas has been defeated militarily but we’ll fight against remnants for years to come

However, “from a military point of view – Hamas is defeated. Its fighters are eliminated or in hiding” and its capabilities “crippled,” he continues, stating that “victory will come step by step” and that Israel “will not stop. We will enter Rafah. We will return to Khan Younis. And we will operate in Gaza. Wherever there are terrorist targets – the IDF will be there.”

Macron Says Europe Should Reduce Dependence On US Dollar, Seek ‚Strategic Autonomy‘

(09.04.2023)

But perhaps most notable was his suggestion that Europe needs to reduce its dependence on the „extraterritoriality of the U.S. dollar,“ a line which both Moscow and Beijing have been emphasizing.

„If the tensions between the two superpowers heat up … we won’t have the time nor the resources to finance our strategic autonomy and we will become vassals,“ he said.

Europe must resist pressure to become ‘America’s followers,’ says Macron

ABOARD COTAM UNITÉ (FRANCE’S AIR FORCE ONE) — Europe must reduce its dependency on the United States and avoid getting dragged into a confrontation between China and the U.S. over Taiwan, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on his plane back from a three-day state visit to China.

Speaking with POLITICO and two French journalists after spending around six hours with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip, Macron emphasized his pet theory of “strategic autonomy” for Europe, presumably led by France, to become a “third superpower.”

Trump’s Prosecution Has Set a Dangerous Precedent

Every local prosecutor in the country will now feel that he or she has free rein to criminally investigate and prosecute presidents after they leave office. Democrats currently cheering the charges against Mr. Trump may feel differently if — or when — a Democrat, perhaps even President Biden, ends up on the receiving end of a similar effort by any of the thousands of prosecutors elected to local office, eager to make a name for themselves by prosecuting a former president of the United States.

The week Biden had to decide whether to shoot down mysterious objects

“Nothing right now suggests they were related to China’s spy balloon program or that they were surveillance vehicles from any other country,” Biden said. “The intelligence community’s current assessment is that these three objects were most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation or research institutions studying weather or conducting other scientific research.”

Biden also said there was no evidence of a sudden increase in the number of aerial objects, saying the United States was finding more of them because of radar adjustments.

As the election fog clears, Netanyahu poised to ride a hungry, far-right tiger

Conflicting priorities to maximize the performance of their own anchor slates and also strengthen the market shares of their allied factions—with which they would aspire to craft ruling coalitions—were the source of schizophrenic messaging by Likud and Yesh Atid, which left voters to choose in whom to place their trust. Those decisions shaped the current playing field.

Staatstrojaner Pegasus: Polnische Regierung versetzt EU-Abgeordnete
