ANNUAL THREAT ASSESSMENT OF THE U.S. INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY

– The IC assesses that Chinese leaders do not currently plan to execute an invasion of Taiwan in 2027, nor do they have a fixed timeline for achieving unification. However, China publicly insists that unification with Taiwan is required to achieve its goal of “national rejuvenation” by 2049—the 100th year anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Beijing almost certainly will consider a variety of factors in deciding whether and how to pursue military approaches to unification, including PLA readiness, the actions and politics of Taiwan, and whether or not the U.S. will militarily intervene on Taiwan’s behalf.

– Chinese officials recognize that an amphibious invasion of Taiwan would be extremely challenging and carry a high risk of failure, especially in the event of U.S. intervention

US says mainland China not planning to attack Taiwan in 2027 after threat assessment

Beijing is unlikely to attack Taiwan next year, given security and economic deterrents, including its belief that an amphibious assault could fail and that the technological, supply chain and investor costs would be huge, according to a US threat assessment released on Wednesday.

The intelligence overview appeared to walk back a projection by the Pentagon last year that Beijing wanted to take the self-governing island by force as early as 2027 and comes as US President Donald Trump takes a more conciliatory tone towards China.

Korea, Taiwan chip sectors most exposed to helium shortage amid Middle East war: Fitch

Helium, a by-product of natural gas extraction used in semiconductor manufacturing for ultra-clean cooling, leak detection and inert shielding, faces a global squeeze, with Qatar among the world’s most important suppliers.

This comes as the US-Israeli attacks on Iran have already disrupted liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in Qatar, a leading LNG supplier, and constrained shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy chokepoint that is now paralysed.

Macron Stands By China Comments After Drawing Criticism

“This is something the president stands by entirely,” a French diplomat told reporters, according to Reuters.

Macron’s warning that Europe shouldn’t be “America’s followers” is part of his vision for Europe to have “strategic autonomy” from the US, an idea that some EU officials support.

Charles Michel, the head of the EU’s European Council, said “quite a few” European leaders think like Macron when it comes to the relationship with the US.

Europe must resist pressure to become ‘America’s followers,’ says Macron

ABOARD COTAM UNITÉ (FRANCE’S AIR FORCE ONE) — Europe must reduce its dependency on the United States and avoid getting dragged into a confrontation between China and the U.S. over Taiwan, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on his plane back from a three-day state visit to China.

Speaking with POLITICO and two French journalists after spending around six hours with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip, Macron emphasized his pet theory of “strategic autonomy” for Europe, presumably led by France, to become a “third superpower.”

US hypes joint sanctions on China over ‚military aid to Russia‘ smears, ‚wooing allies for bloc confrontation‘

Washington is reportedly consulting US allies to impose sanctions on China in a coordinated manner „if China provides military support for Russia“ – an unwarranted smear by the US that has intensified in recent weeks.

Observers said on Thursday that the US‘ intentions behind the „open secret“ are crystal clear, including but not limited to justifying US sanctions and other anti-China deeds, undermining China‘s peaceful stance on the conflict to stain China‘s international image, as well as hijacking allies for a bloc confrontation taking shape.

Exclusive: EU has no right to interpret one-China principle without China’s recognition: Chinese envoy to EU

GT: Recently, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, visited multiple countries in Europe and also visited Russia. The visit came ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine crisis and attracted much attention. What signal do you think those visits sent to the world?

Fu: First, it is a signal of peace. Wang Yi made it very clear that on the Ukraine issue, our position is summed up in one sentence, that is, to promote peace. By visiting both Europe and Russia, the message is that China is promoting peace talks.

China is very worried about the current situation. The crisis is now clearly escalating, and both sides are preparing for the so-called spring offensive or counterattack, which means more killings.

US‘ old warships sailing through Taiwan Straits can‘t deter PLA at all, only confirms US‘ hostility toward China‘s reunification

The US Navy has conducted similar actions many times in the past with the aim to implement so-called „freedom of navigation“ in the Taiwan Straits and the South China Sea, while as long as the US vessels follow the rules of „innocent passage“ to keep low profile and pose no harm, turn off weapons and fire-control radar system, and bring no actual threat to China‘s security, the PLA would just follow and monitor, said experts, noting that there is no big difference this time as the US also doesn‘t want to put its old warships in danger.

US keeps provoking tensions in Straits with lawmakers‘ sneaky visit, to face ‚firm countermeasures‘

Just 12 days after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island of Taiwan, a delegation of US lawmakers made a sudden visit to the island on Sunday, further proving that the US is the one that makes repeated provocations and keeps tensions from easing, said Chinese experts.

They stressed that China will definitely impose sanctions on the visiting lawmakers as a countermeasure, as the country has always been firmly opposed to any collusion between the US and Taiwan secessionists.
