The IRGC described the strikes as part of a âretaliatory operationâ and claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remains âunder the complete controlâ of its naval forces. The military branch also declared that these operations would continue.
The attack comes despite Oman serving as one of the primary mediators between Tehran and Washington in recent months, and follows previous assertions by Islamic Republic officials emphasising cooperation with Muscat regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman condemned what it described as „irresponsible acts“ and summoned Iran‘s ambassador in protest, marking a dramatic deterioration in relations between the two countries.

Omanâs announcement that vessels could use a southern corridor within Omani territorial waters prompted criticism from Tehran.
According to the report, Iranâs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that it could take action against vessels using routes outside those designated by Iranian authorities.

The strikes also collapsed a tower at Iranâs Chabahar port on the Gulf of Oman, a key trade route for landlocked, neighboring Afghanistan, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
Chabahar port, which Iran had been running with support from India, has been a repeated target of American airstrikes. Iranian state media acknowledged a third round of strikes on the facility without immediately acknowledging the towerâs collapse.

The country‘s size relative to other much smaller Gulf states meant it fared better during the war, continuing to export oil via a pipeline from the east to its west coast on the Red Sea, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
A wider conflict with the Houthis, who have in the past targeted Red Sea shipping, could challenge that.
The Saudi government‘s communication office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Prime Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani directed the Interior Ministry and security agencies to identify those responsible.

The assassination of Mohammed Aydah, whether or not it is ultimately linked to STC remnants, shows how much remains unsettled in the territory Saudi Arabia now formally controls.
„Whoever targeted Mohammed wanted to silence him, but it was also a threat to all other journalists. At the end of the day, they won‘t be able to silence everyone if everyone is speaking up and everyone is active,“ said Shiban.
