he group of over 365 reservists say the assault puts the lives of Israeli hostages at risk while also ‚killing, maiming and starving‘ Gazan civilians.
Israel has begun mobilising at least 60,000 reservists as part of its planned offensive in Gaza City, and extending the service of an additional 20,000.

‚We will not report for duty‘: Hundreds of reservists defy call-up
„The decision to conquer Gaza will place the hostages, soldiers, and civilians in jeopardy. It is being issued by a messianic government that lacks public legitimacy and is solely concerned with its own political survival,“ says one reserve officer who has already served hundreds of days.
MK Cassif: More of Us in Israel are Saying No to this Endless War
(August 27, 2025)
As the descendant of a Jewish family from Poland, the words “never again” have significant meaning for me. In the aftermath of the Second World War, humankind vowed to never again allow such atrocities to occur. The Holocaust, the mass extermination of the Jewish people, plumbed the very depths of tyrannical evil. Precisely because of this heritage, I view “never again” as a universal imperative.
In 1948, the international community adopted the universal declaration of human rights and the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide. In the decades since, we have failed globally many times to safeguard this invaluable truth: that people must not perish in flames, and such heinous crimes must not be perpetrated while outsiders stand idly by. But never in recent times have people around the world started into the abyss of annihilation as we are doing today in Gaza. As such, “never again” is not merely a moral reminder but an ethical decree to act.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, as the saying goes. It seems that Netanyahu manages to fool western leaders time and time again. On Friday, in response to the IPC declaration of famine, the UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, said it was an “utterly horrifying and wholly preventable man-made catastrophe”. May I ask Lammy and the rest of the British cabinet – are you among the people responsible for this catastrophe?
Israel approves plan to conquer Gaza City, call up around 60,000 reservists
Israel‘s defence minister has approved a plan for the conquest of Gaza City and authorised the call-up of around 60,000 reservists to carry it out, his ministry confirmed on Wednesday.
Mass Rallies Across Israel, Speakers Urge Soldiers to Refuse to Occupy Gaza, Calls to Launch General Strike
Following a big gathering at Hostages Square, hostages’ families begin a march around the army headquarters in protest of the Gaza occupation plan, joining protesters and other hostages’ families from the anti-government protest outside the Begin Street entrance to the army headquarters.
During that protest, speakers urged soldiers to refuse to serve in Gaza and called on opposition heads as well as business, labor and academic leaders to bring the country to a general strike. At the same time, dozens of activists split from the main march in Tel Aviv and are blocking the central Ayalon highway in both directions in several points. The activists burned tires in one of their blocking points and three were arrested by police.

Nearby, at the anti-government, pro-hostage deal protest in front of the Begin Street entrance to the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, speakers urged soldiers to refuse to serve in the expanded fighting, and called on opposition heads as well as business, labor and academic leaders to bring the country to a standstill.
“An entire county is held hostage by Hamas and the government of Israel,” said Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan Zangauker. “What needs to be done? The country needs to grind to a halt, now.”
Israeli Teenagers Burning Draft Orders in Central Tel-Aviv
Dozens of Israeli teenagers burned at Habima Square in Central Tel-Aviv on Tuesday, July 15, their draft orders during a demonstration, refusing to serve in the Israeli army in protest against war and genocide in Gaza. They claimed, “We won’t take part in genocide” and “won’t serve apartheid, occupation and war crimes.”
Netanyahu Survives a Vote to Dissolve Parliament but Emerges Weakened
By bringing the bill to a vote, the opposition parties planned to exploit a fight within the governing coalition over the contentious, decades-old policy that has largely exempted ultra-Orthodox men who are studying religion in seminaries from compulsory military service.
Edelstein says ‘agreements reached on principles’ for Haredi draft bill, signaling end to coalition crisis
Likud MK Yuli Edelstein, who heads the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, releases a statement declaring that “after long deliberations, we have reached agreements on principles on which to base a proposal for the enlistment law,” signaling an end to the coalition crisis.
‘Next time, we’ll tattoo a Star of David on your face’
In February, Palestinian prisoners released as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement were forced to wear shirts emblazoned with the Star of David, the Israel Prison Service (IPS) logo, and the phrase “We will not forget and we will not forgive” in Arabic.
Now, a Jewish-Israeli detainee in IPS custody has also been subjected to this humiliating practice: IPS officers compelled left-wing activist Itamar Greenberg, who was arrested last Sunday, May 24 at an anti-war protest, to wear a shirt with the inscription “Am Yisrael Chai” (“The Nation of Israel Lives”). During his detention, they also cursed at him, and threatened that next time they would tattoo a Star of David on his face — as had previously been done to a Palestinian detainee from East Jerusalem.
Shas said planning to back Knesset dissolution over stymied draft-exemption bill
Speaking with the Haaretz daily following a faction meeting held to discuss whether or not to support the UTJ-led move, a Shas source said that the party will push to dissolve the Knesset, a move that would strip the coalition of its majority and trigger new elections.
Elections may loom as senior rabbis tell Haredi UTJ party to bolt coalition
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government was teetering Wednesday after the spiritual leaders of Degel Hatorah, one of the two factions that make up the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party, instructed their MKs to introduce a bill to dissolve the Knesset due to the coalition’s failure to pass a law exempting yeshiva students from conscription — a longstanding UTJ goal.
On Wednesday morning, Degel Hatorah chair MK Moshe Gafni received the instructions from rabbis Moshe Hirsch, the dean of Bnei Brak’s Slabodka yeshiva, and Dov Lando, the senior leader of the so-called Lithuanian stream of non-Hasidic ultra-Orthodoxy and the chairman of the faction’s ruling Council of Torah Sages.
War Refusenik Ella Keidar Greenberg Released from Military Jail
War Refusenik Ella Keidar Greenberg has been finally released from military service after two months in jail. “I received an exemption from the army. My incarceration was difficult. For most of it, I was locked alone in a cell for 21 hours a day, almost fully isolated from the other prisoners,” she said.
According to Keidar, “Under international law, solitary confinement is considered torture and prohibited, but we all know how much the army cares about international law. My imprisonment wasn’t easy, but I passed it thanks to the support of my family, my friends, the lawyers who aided me, the Mesarvot Network, my comrades in the Communist Young League, and everyone who wrote me a letter from the outside.” “Now, I am free and I will continue, and we will continue to struggle against apartheid, the genocide in Gaza, and for a safe and free future for us all.”
U.S. Elites Learned Much from the Vietnam Defeat
So, what did they learn?
– They learned that wars can indeed last forever, but that Vietnam wasn’t the best “forever war” for the military-industrial complex because it became deeply unpopular and was disrupting cohesion within the military itself. The best forever wars are open-ended “wars” like the global war on terror. And perhaps a “new Cold War” with Russia and/or China. Wars that don’t involve the deployment of over half a million men (unless that “new” Cold War turns hot).
– They learned to control the narrative. No more journalists traveling freely in war zones as in the 1960s in Vietnam. Journalists are now most often embedded in U.S. military units. Embedded reporters, dependent on the military for access and protection, know what they can and can’t say, even as they tend to sympathize with the troops they’re with. ….
Israel calls up thousands of reservists, plans to expand Gaza offensive amid stalled hostage talks
(May 3, 2025)
Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan 11, reported that Zamir’s plan included evacuating Palestinian civilians from northern and central Gaza ahead of expanded operations in those areas, mirroring tactics used earlier this year in southern Gaza’s Rafah.
Citing unnamed officials, Kan 11 said Netanyahu’s Security Cabinet was expected to approve the plan Sunday.
The Israeli army is facing its biggest refusal crisis in decades
(April 11, 2025)
Over 100,000 Israelis have reportedly stopped showing up for reserve duty. While their reasons differ, the scale demonstrates the war’s waning legitimacy.
Communist Announces Her Refusal to Enlist in the Army in Protest of Occupation and War
Ella Keidar, an 18-year-old Communist objector announces on Wednesday, March 19, her refusal to enlist in the Israeli army in protest of occupation and war. Ella was sentenced to 30 days in military prison. During a demonstration in solidarity with Kedar held near the induction center at Tel-Hashomer, MK Ofer Cassif (Hadash) told the crowd: “Ella refused to enlist in the Israeli army because she refuses to take part in the genocide in Gaza and she is a hero and an inspiration to us all. It is our duty to refuse.” Keidar agreed, “We will not take part in the genocide in Gaza or the oppression of the Palestinian people….
Hadash Lawmakers Against Netanyahu’s Decision to Stop Entry of Aid into Gaza
On Sunday evening, thousands of protesters broke down police barricades and lit flares during a sit-in outside Netanyahu’s house in Jerusalem, in protest of the government’s stalling the negotiations over a cease-fire deal with Hamas. One demonstrator was detained by police.
“Don’t you dare sabotage the deal,” the organizers wrote in a press statement before the gathering. “This evening proves that the public won’t stay quiet. While Netanyahu and [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich care more about political calculations than human lives, thousands hit the streets to remind them of their main obligation – bringing all the hostages back home,” they wrote. During the demonstration Partnership for Peace protesters, among them Hadash activists, called “No transfer, no to starvation, refuse to serve in the war” and “No to massacres, we refuse to be criminals.” At the same hour and under the banner “Stop Gaza starvation”, Hadash activists’ demonstrated near the Israeli army headquarters in Tel-Aviv

Hundreds of Israeli protesters blocked the road outside the prime minister’s residence on Sunday (March 2) threatening to stay until the government agreed to a deal that would bring home all the remaining hostages. Israeli police set up barricades to prevent the protesters from getting too close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence as protesters lit flares and bonfires.
(…)
Wir lehnen die Wiedereinführung einer Wehrpflicht ab.
Verteidigungsminister Pistorius will Deutschland „kriegstüchtig“ machen.
