The resolution had been met with resistance from DNC Chair Ken Martin, despite polls showing overwhelming opposition to Israel’s military actions in Gaza from Democratic voters. The weapons ban resolution was put forward by a first-time DNC member to represent the views of younger party members.
“While it’s disappointing that DNC leadership wasn’t able to recognize that this is an overwhelming popular position, a 90-10 issue within its base, it started a conversation,” the resolution’s author, 26-year-old DNC member Allison Minnerly, told The Intercept. “As we approach 2026, it’s not going to go away, the more we delay having a hard conversation like this one.”

It did vote for a resolution essentially restating the Biden administration’s position on the war: calling for a two-state solution, for the release of hostages, for an end to the conflict. That resolution said nothing, however, about America’s ongoing provision of the arms with which the Netanyahu government is waging its war.
The resolution that was adopted was authored by DNC Chair Ken Martin. The one that was squelched was authored by Allison Minnerly, a 26-year-old DNC member from Florida who’s a voter mobilization organizer. Her resolution was backed by most of the DNC’s young members, including the leaders of the College Democrats of America and the High School Democrats of America.

„I have lost count of the number of parents like Fatma who have sobbed while telling me what happened to them, wrecked by how powerless they are to protect their children in the face of indiscriminate destruction and deprivation. Generations of families, including those born into the ceasefire, have been forever altered by what was inflicted upon them.
Gaza’s babies ‘scarred by war before first breath’ by malnutrition
Mothers who’ve been left starving in Gaza are now giving birth to underweight or premature babies who die in intensive care units or struggle to survive as they endure acute malnutrition, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Tuesday.
Speaking from the shattered enclave, UNICEF Communication Manager Tess Ingram said that at least 165 children are reported to have died “painful, preventable deaths” related to malnutrition during the war between Hamas fighters and Israel.
A lesser-known scourge is acute hunger among pregnant and breastfeeding women and “the devastating domino effect” of this lack of a healthy diet on thousands of newborns.
“In Gaza’s hospitals I have met several newborns who weighed less than one kilogramme, their tiny chests heaving with the effort of staying alive,” Ms. Ingram said.
‚Shockingly high‘ number of Gaza children still acutely malnourished after truce, UN says
Thousands of children have been admitted for treatment for acute malnutrition in Gaza since an October ceasefire that was supposed to enable a major increase in humanitarian aid, the U.N. children‘s agency said on Tuesday.
UNICEF, the biggest provider of malnutrition treatment in Gaza, said that 9,300 children were treated for severe acute malnutrition in October, when the first phase of an agreement to end the two-year Israel-Hamas war came into effect.
Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza continues unabated despite ceasefire
In December 2024 Amnesty International issued an extensive study concluding that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza arguing that Israel had carried out three acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention, with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, including killings, causing serious bodily or mental harm, and deliberately inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.
Today despite a reduction in scale of attacks, and some limited improvements, there has been no meaningful change in the conditions Israel is inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza and no evidence to indicate that Israel’s intent has changed.
“Israel has inflicted devastating harm on Palestinians in Gaza through its genocide, including two years of relentless bombardment and deliberate systematic starvation. So far, there is no indication that Israel is taking serious measures to reverse the deadly impact of its crimes and no evidence that its intent has changed. In fact, Israeli authorities are continuing their ruthless policies, restricting access to vital humanitarian aid and essential services, and deliberately imposing conditions calculated to physically destroy Palestinians in Gaza,” said Agnès Callamard.
At least 347people, including 136 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was announced on 9 October. Israel continues to restrict access to critical aid and relief supplies, including medical supplies and equipment necessary to repair life-sustaining infrastructure, violating multiple orders from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for Israel to ensure that Palestinians have access to humanitarian supplies, in the case brought by South Africa to prevent Israel’s genocide. In January 2024, the ICJ found that Palestinians’ rights under the Genocide Convention, namely their survival were plausibly at risk.
The objective probability that the current conditions would lead to the destruction of Palestinians in Gaza persists, particularly considering the enhanced vulnerability of the population to sickness and spread of disease following months of famine caused by years of unlawful blockade and months of total siege earlier this year. This has created circumstances that would lead to a slow death of Palestinians resulting from the lack of proper food, water, shelter, clothing or sanitation.

Gaza’s death toll rises to 67,938, health ministry says
The bodies of 25 people, and 35 wounded Palestinians have arrived at Gaza’s hospitals in the past 24 hours, the enclave’s health ministry said in a statement on Telegram.
The number includes 16 bodies newly recovered from the rubble and one person who died from their wounds.
The ministry said the Israeli attacks have killed at least 67,938 people and wounded 170,169 others across the enclave since the war began in October 2023.

67,211 killed in Gaza extermination war

The death toll from the extermination war carried out by the Israeli occupation army in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has risen to 67,211, the majority of whom are women and children, according to medical sources on Friday.
The sources added that the number of injuries has increased to 169,961, while many victims remain under the rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and civil defense teams.
They confirmed the arrival of 17 dead and 71 injured at Gaza hospitals over the past 24 hours.
