Brazilian soy farmers concerned with new Bayer biotech herbicide, Dicamba

Brazilian farmers are wary of the imminent introduction of a new genetically modified soy seed technology because of the risks associated with dicamba, a herbicide the biotech product is designed to tolerate. Widely used in the United States, dicamba has been described as a volatile product that drifts off easily and may compromise non-tolerant soybeans.

Trump’s Impeachment Meltdown Accelerates Collapse of Netanyahu’s Iran Strategy

The fatal flaw in Netanyahu’s game plan was obvious to anyone who took Trump’s measure from the outset. It wrongly assumed that the U.S. president could be a stable and dependable partner in advancing Netanyahu’s game plan. It posited that Trump recognized the threat Iran poses to both Israel and the U.S. and that his utmost priority would be to quell it. It did not take into account Trump’s isolationist tendencies or that his only real priority is promoting himself.

Iran, Anschlag, el Sadr: die Kriegsintrige

(14. Februar 2007)

(30.09.2019)

Iraq reopens Syria crossing in win for mutual ally Iran

(30.09.2019)

The crossing, which Iraqi officials declared open for travellers and trade, is crucial for Iran‘s bid to cement its growing sway over a corridor of territory from Tehran to Beirut.

The opening of the crossing signified „the victory of the Iraqi and Syrian people over all terrorist groups, especially Daesh,“ said Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Khaled al-Rahmoun, using a term for Islamic State.

William Barr Supported Pardons In An Earlier D.C. ‚Witch Hunt‘: Iran-Contra

(14.01.2019)

Barr, who is scheduled to go before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday for his confirmation hearings, ran the Justice Department once before, under President George H.W. Bush.

Back then, the all-consuming, years-long scandal was called Iran-Contra. On Dec. 24, 1992, it ended when Bush pardoned six people who had been caught up in it.

„The Constitution is quite clear on the powers of the president and sometimes the president has to make a very difficult call,“ Bush said then. „That‘s what I‘ve done.“

Imperial Presidency

Historian Zachary Karabell argued that executive power grew further in the 21st century, due in part to congressional inaction. Citing both the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama as examples, he wrote: „9/11 saw the beginning of the current move toward an imperial presidency, as George W. Bush keyed off the crisis to expand executive authority in national security and domestic surveillance. In that, his administration had the legal but classified support of Congress, and for a time, a considerable portion of the public.“ Karabell said that this trend continued under Obama, and that „stonewalling“ from Congress „provoked the Obama administration into finding innovative ways to exercise power,“ making Obama „one of the most powerful presidents ever.“ He wrote that this trend could potentially set precedent for even greater executive influence in the future.[2] Karabell later argued that the presidency of Donald Trump had the possibly unintended effect of eroding executive power, citing the rescission of the DACA immigration policy and the Trump administration‘s threat to use its position to withdraw from NAFTA as instances which have led to some power being returned to Congress at the executive branch‘s expense.

Unitary executive theory

Contrary to claims of some authors,[17] the first administration to make explicit reference to the „Unitary Executive“ was not that of President George W. Bush. For example, in 1987, Ronald Reagan issued a signing statement that declared: „If this provision were interpreted otherwise, so as to require the President to follow the orders of a subordinate, it would plainly constitute an unconstitutional infringement of the President‘s authority as head of a unitary executive branch.“[18]

The George W. Bush administration made the Unitary Executive Theory a common feature of signing statements.[19] For example, Bush once wrote in a signing statement that he would, „construe Title X in Division A of the Act, relating to detainees, in a manner consistent with the constitutional authority of the President to supervise the unitary executive branch and as Commander in Chief and consistent with the constitutional limitations on the judicial power.“[20] Critics acknowledge that part of the President‘s duty is to „interpret what is, and is not constitutional, at least when overseeing the actions of executive agencies,“ but critics accused Bush of overstepping that duty by his perceived willingness to overrule US courts.[21]

Gantz, the Hope Is a Government Without Netanyahu

The political whirlwind and the desire to avoid another election might cause Gantz to forget the reason his party won 33 Knesset seats and became the largest political party in Israel, namely that the people are sick and tired of Netanyahu. They are sick not only of the abundant criminal accusations now under review at a hearing, but also of his corrupt and cynical politics, which have put his personal survival above any other value, and in the name of which he has pitted parts of Israeli society against each other.

Democrats subpoena White House as impeachment battle escalates sharply

In an extraordinary escalation of the impeachment battle, House Democrats on Friday subpoenaed the White House for a sweeping array of documents on President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine and demanded numerous additional records from Vice President Mike Pence.

The subpoena was the Democrats’ most aggressive step yet in the 10-day-old impeachment inquiry, and it came as Trump angrily insisted — at least 27 times in a 23-minute news conference — that he was only seeking to root out corruption when he pressed Ukraine to investigate his Democratic political opponents.

Klimakrise: Atomkraft – kein Klimaretter
